in a way it's true already. Like I'm Russian. And I can tell it's not a sweet West-loving Russian from 2000s anymore. We want power. And colonies. And our values spread over Europe. Speaking of colonies, just in last few years we turned Syria, Central Africa and Venezuela into semi-puppet regimes that do not take any decisions without consulting Moscow. ;-) Give us 10 more years. And you will see the rise of our empire :D ;-)
Soldier A : "It's been over ten years, how much should we wait?!" Soldier B : "Another ten years if the motherland asks us to, com....oh wait nevermind"
Gotta love the escalation here, this episode turns from homer being enlisted in the navy, to killing his captain, to hijacking a nuclear sub, to the reunification of the soviet union finally leading to lenin rising from the dead.
@@TheRubberStudiosASMR it's quite interesting how the production crew changed over the years. Basically no one who worked on the golden age Simpsons was still there during season 10 Also, the showrunner duo of (I think) season 8 already said back then that it was difficult to write something original that the show didn't do yet
@@TheRubberStudiosASMR I also think writers/artists of the last generation were immediately in contact with a culture that was more genuine and cohesive, and more deeply productive of greater quality art. These guys grew up watching Star Wars, listening to Led Zeppelin, and lived through all kinds of grand historical events; they have a sense of cultural consciousness that is lacking today. Exaggerating a bit, but people of this generation have Cardi B, soulless influencer culture, and people who don't even know how to live in the moment anymore, and as a result it seems harder to create great art in this era.
the funny thing is that it was Lenin who created the state of Ukraine... as an independent and independent. As well as the fact that tsarist Russia gave Ukraine its territory and its very existence. otherwise, Turkey would be there. It's just a historical fact. no more, but no less...
It is because you dumbasses think they’re communist again for invading the Ukraine. They’re still a capitalist country, and imperialism is always accompanied by capitalism.
Clayj27 the Soviet Union consisted of many different nations outside of Russia. Outside of Russia there was Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. All of which were their own semi-autonomous soviet republics. The Soviet Union was the union of all of these separate SSR’s. That’s why it’s official name is the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
Amazing Cereal Eater I know that dip shit, that wasn’t my point. Even Putin said Russia was the USSR with a different name. I get that you’re trying to show off your 5th grade history class knowledge, but it missed the point of my comment.
I am grateful that I was born after the fall of the ussr so I didn't have to remember all the countries that existed during it when I had to take my European geography test in high school
@Angela Bahamondes I'd say it's more like Gorbachev's market socialism. Did you know the USSR tried rebranding as the Union of Soviet _Sovereign_ Republics before they broke up? Now they're a group similar to the UN known as the Commonwealth of Independent States.
Listen mister Shrek, it's not our fault that we're this good. And even if it was, with great power comes great responsibility. I think Sun Tzu said that.

I'm passed my prime now but I can still serve up some plates not do it as much as I use to..
It’s actually unbelievable how unfunny the show was, can’t believe I watched it as a kid. Thank God for Family Guy, because the Simpsons is like yogurt that’s not even spoiled, the kind that is sugar free without any artificial flavors. Shame on all of you for still supporting the show. Thanks.
It aged better than the pseudo-joke about David Schwimmer. Nothing about his show aged well, especially his male co-stars. The only reason it matters is because he was the weak link in the movie *Apt Pupil.* The 1998 Bryan Singer version only got made because the originally intended version with Ricky Schroder from right around the time *Silver Spoons* went off the air ran out of money and Ricky outgrew the part before they reached a deal that gave them enough money to finish the film but not to reshoot existing scenes so the continuity would match. Ricky was in *Crimson Tide* (just barely), while his 1980s sitcom put him alongside two future *Simpsons* guest stars: Gary Coleman and Jason Bateman, one of whom got a whole third act to himself and the other was wasted on a two-line cameo that existed to promote a show Fox jerked around and whose Netflix reboot was ruined by a sex scandal. And there you have it: a joke that holds up and a joke that does not hold up in the same episode.

It's not a prediction if it's not specific. Nostradamus never predicted anything. It was always in retrospect that people noticed the similarities. 🤦🏼♂️
this has almost nothing to do with whats happening today other than "they're russians." i guess its convenient to over exaggerate to an army of fools for the sake of likes though
@Soul Studio exactly. What I see now more from the part of the West is a new rise of Russophobia - this time without the red scare, and a fetishization of and feigned empathy for Ukrainians, the new token white/European victim of an "Evil Country" (AKA Economic Rival to the US/"The West"). Other than those general points it's not in any way similar to the Soviet Union. The Russian as well as the Ukrainian oligarchy have nothing to do with Stalin let alone Lenin, and consider communism a "blind alley", like Putin had been quoted before. The only other comparable thing is imperialism, which the Russian Empire had before communism anyways, and wasn't invented with the Revolution, neither did it die after the USSR Fall. We can all see that NATO is an imperialistic force, the USA way more than Russia, and more deadly than any other, China is imperialistic too, etc. Not just those "filthy pinkie soviet commies" (read this in an cowboy accent), which "The West" still hasn't moved on from using as a boogeyman for justifying their delusions and desires of supremacy. I guess I should end this with hashtag Slava Ukraina for them easy likes, otherwise I'll get called a commie or whatever other slur for "not abiding to West European/US terrorism". I wonder where were all those people going out of their way to hate the Russian Nation and show their sudden love for Ukrainians with flying there for volunteering and sex tourism as they are doing right now where were those people when millions died in wars like Afghanistan, the multiple in the Middle East and Africa as well as the Yugoslav Wars, which have already been forgotten, with people calling 2022 the worst thing since WWII. Anyways, the fathers grew up hating Russians because the grandfathers told them to, and the sons have a chance to hate on Russia too. It might not be Soviet Union but it is a "baahd countree" ( again, read it in cowboy US cavemen accent). Don't reply if you disagree because I don't care, go watch The Simpsons and tweet your sympathies for Ukrainians. EDIT: Since some people replied to me I'll just edit this here for whomever that's new to this thread stops by. First, thanks for all the agreeing comments, It's nice to know I'm not talking to a wall, and you're right, to the person who said this does have a "red scare" aspect to it still, and the person who said that these people didn't even know anything about ukraine but already jumped ship with their western masters, you're right too, sadly. I don't have anything else to add because I'm busy and tired of all this. Now, for a disclaimer READ THIS BEFORE TRYING TO INSULT ME IN THE COMMENTS. I am NOT defending the Invasion of Russia, as I would not support an Invasion from any power, especially one made by the West's Powers. My part of the world has faced plenty of invasions by the USA and West Europe and never by Russia, because the biggest threat in the world is not the Russian Empire, and never was, still I have zero reasons to support them either. Even less reasons to support people dying for the benefit of an imperialistic parasite, but I don't expect someone from an empire to understand that, to you it's only right to steal your "enemies" of their resources and kill millions of us, which you'll also do with Ukraine if you take it from the Russians. Me being critical of the situation doesn't mean I'm laughing at ukrainian children dying you illiterate babies. Thanks for reading, if you disagree go tweet slava ukrainia and talk trash about tolstoi or whatever, make the bad country pay for going against the masters of the world with your tweets.

I love how it’s implied that “Soviet Union” was written on the backside of the Russian nameplate, as if those sitting behind him couldn’t read it before it was flipped 😂
Well, when Putin became president in 2000 he changed the national anthem back to the Soviet Union anthem with a new text. Considering this it isn't much of a surprise that the Simpsons came up with this idea. Putin has constantly romanticized about the Soviet Union as well.
Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia are part of EU already. Ukraine hates Russia more than anything. Moldova is one step for rejoining Romania. Georgia hates Russia for abhazia and south ossetia. The "stans" would not rejoin soviet union.
@@cosminpgl8816 The Stans probably would though. And the Ukrainians too once they get desperate to end the war. Plus Belarus is currently thinking of joining.
No it did not; Russia is not trying to reestablish the USSR, anyone who thinks this is an idiot. Putin has been adamantly anti-Communist throughout his reign, and has zero intention of invading any of the former Soviet states, since he would have literally nothing to gain from this.
@@williamlanger9229 What are you even talking about? Crimea? Yes he took Crimea since America and NATO chose to use it to establish an aggressive presence in the Black Sea. Our ability to satire the human condition, politics, religion and everything in between must never be taken for granted or lost. The Simpsons epitomise this.
The correct verb is satirise, and if you look back in history it becomes clear this was a form of magic. One can kill someone with a satire. No, worse, ruin their reputation long after they are dead.

Umm no he’s not from the future! He’s part of a global banking cabal that has been enslaving humanity for thousands of years using “money” as a way to get humans to exchange their human rights for tiny pieces of paper or metal in order to exist in their “civilized society”
In 1996, given that it was but five years from the events of Boris Yeltsin standing on the tank with a megahorn in Moscow's Red Square, and given his drunken incompetence ,it'd not have been far-fetched to predict that reactionary elements would want to "relive the good old days", ala "Simon Phoenix" egging on his gang of recently defrosted criminals in "Demolition Man". So it took 26 years for such a prediction to be manifest. The writers of the Simpsons, including Conan O'Brien, did well because they folded in current events and societal trends into that unique brand of irreverent humor.
I remember on the DVD commentary for this episode the writers said this scene was the craziest thing they had done up to this point in the show. Now years later it doesn't seem that far fetched at all.
yeah it still does. It'll be more believable if the Communist Party of Russia ends up winning. For now it looks more like an attempt to revive the Russian Empire if anything.

What this really shows is how intelligent, aware and educated the writers of the Simpsons were, especially through those first 13-ish seasons. Under communism, there can be no wars, because there is no money with it. The USSR was building up weapons only because the West was trying to destroy the socialist country. Now in Russia, capitalism, like yours, is a standard war for capital between competing countries, a colony of the USA in the form of Ukraine and Russia. The USA is also communists, once for 70 years they bomb other countries Syria, Libya Afghanistan, Yugoslavia?
