I’ve been reading some tweets and SimGuruNinja has confirmed that it is part of the update, they just forgot to mention it in the patch notes, also radiators from the vampires pack are now functional. Although there is the possibility that it was a bug but they decided to go with it because if they remove it now people we’ll get furious 😂
Yh I think a guru noticed it on the low and thought… I’m not gonna flag this, and if it goes wrong I’ll pretend I didn’t notice but if it goes how I think it will, I’ll probably get a bonus! Then everyone got excited and happy, and when the team noticed and already planned a fix for it, they noticed people’s reactions, then a PR convo went down and they were like ok who do they like and trust, yh get him to just say it was planned and that we just forgot to mention it, right, then we wait and see… I do wonder what the likely hood of them being able to maintain this ‘purposeful glitch’ during other future updates is gonna be the true test.
The biggest give away is that you need to press shift to paint the wall and you cannot do it individually. there is no way intended feature would work like that. It most definitely is a bug that they call a feature.
I wonder if theyll ever let us edit the hallways in city living, where the elevators are, ive wanted to put the mailboxes by every door in the apartment and add better decor so badly lol 😂
What makes me the maddest about the balcony in Eco Lifestyle is that on the pre-release pack reviews, you COULD add things to the balcony because it was in lilsimsie’s video.
Yes Lilsimsie and Simlicy both did early access builds in those apartments and explained that they patched it out! I use the TOOL mod to add stuff to them all the time though!
The one time a sims 4 bug actually makes the game better… bet EA won’t listen and will patch it 💀 The ability to edit apartments should exist even if only with cheats, for a game that boasts customisation and ‘living your way’ ✨be who you wanna be✨, it just makes sense
I think the Eco Lifestyle apartments won't let you change everything because those things update to something else when the environments change with the naps.
I really want to think they're doing this in preparation for the release of For Rent so we can build/edit multi-unit homes but I feel like it's more likely that it's just another one of their f*ck-ups and they don't yet realize we can even do this because they pay zero attention to us or the game itself.
Finally!!! I loved but sometimes hated not being able to change the windows. It made some floor plans awful/almost impossible sometimes. Which was part of the challenge, yes. But sometimes you just want a beautiful apartment, you know? I bet builders are gonna be the most excited! Edit: i was excited until you mentioned it might be a bug and i wouldn't be surprised 😅
In programming, we have a concept called “it’s a feature not a bug” where you’ll have an unintended effect, but it’s positive/neutral/not that bad, so you’ll keep it. A fun example I have is I made a tetris clone in college, and messed up the rotating and each rotation essentially made the piece “explode” but it worked otherwise. I needed to correctly rotate the pieces for my grade, but irl that could be a weird different version you could play. Because this has wonky rules, and the sims gurus confirmed it’s real, I’d guess it’s just an official “it’s a feature not a bug”.
Being realistic isn't the point, it is for some stuff but it's the sims, This game was never meant to be extremely realistic, i mean people create "rainbow glittering houses" in the gallery with a prison basement and "come in" signs at the front door 😂 sims 4 team failed to keep the heart of the sims smh, yeah this should have been! Added to the pack, now everything else we could have done with city living will be locked behind for rent 😂
I hope this isn’t a bug and we actually get to keep these changes permanently in the game, it’d be pretty cool. Also, two minutes after posting… never been this early…
I totally agree with you that residential rentals have probably existed at least since eco lifestyle, and here’s why. Almost all of the apartments in the game are just lots with a raised-up floor where the apartments are, the rest of the building just an object from the debug section. But in the Stonestreet Apartments in Evergreen Harbor, the whole building is actually a room, no debug anywhere. That’s also why with this update you were able to edit the whole lot. Which means that specific apartment building is basically a residential rental. It doesn’t even have an elevator. The only thing it’s missing is the ability to be a landlord, which is the only gameplay For Rent comes with anyway.
I love this! Playing in apartments has always been something I enjoyed, but the natural light and the possibilities for room layouts was so limited by windows not being able to be removed/replaced.

you could change the door before to the balcony (at least, ive been able to). i do think this is cool though & it isnt TOO unrealistic. theres some apartments that allow remodeling irl like window changes, door changes, etc. so yeah anyway i think im gonna go back to an apt i designed for hours to change the windows because some of the windows got in the way of what i was trying to do. this is great!
You can alter the San Myshino balconies, but not the Evergreen Harbor ones. It's so annoying. I was really hoping this glitch (update?) would have fixed this. So weird you can put things outside the building itself, but not the balcony in Evergreen. One thing about Evergreen Harbor is when the community upgrades happen, the windows and doors change. Something to look out for.
I discovered this last night and went wild with editing the same Eco Lifestyle lot. I'm sure this is a glitch, but I hope it leads to them allowing us to edit the existing apartment lots. I won't hold my breath though...
Can you imagine if this isn't a big, the poor sims team member who finally convinced their bosses to let them do this for the community and everybody saying their hard work is a bug.
So city living was the first sims 4 city pack, yes its a decent pack, can't lie, I play with it (rarely) but let's lock more apartment creativity behind another pay wall 😂
So I’m in minority but I actually like that you can’t change windows and outside walls in apartments. In reality most building don’t let you do it. You get the apartment it comes with the building style. It never bothered me lol
Unlikely it was intentional, they're not that good... I only noticed that after buldozing an apartment lot and all my windows disappeared! Like an hour ago 😂 Edit: I DO hope it'd be one of those bugs they will take another decade to fix
When I see people being so happy and excited for the new feature of changing windows and able to place furniture outside appartments in Evergreen Harbor, but still not able to place anything on balcony, but being able to change the orientation of the stairs, but having dogs unable to pee outside by themselves because they cant go down the stairs by themselves make me infuriated... the community is really happy with tiny crumbles and are just telling EA this is ok... wth Here are my better ideas EA, I hope you take notes and makes better updates and fixes next time, but thanks for the vampire radiator and sink those were well thoughs updates. -First, for the shoe thing, I would also have added the decoration shoes from DHD, because they look much much better, take less space and who uses those god awful cursed base game shoe racks, WHO? I would have even prefer have the coat rack lol. Also, they could have tie this feature to the doors, or ''front door'' instead of necessiting an ''object for it'' like the brilliant chopping stick functionality, works on fridges but also if you click on your sims... Same could have been done for umbrella, that cursed umbrella rack from Seasons must go, we need it to be an option directly accessible on our sims... -Second, is the appartment from CL and EL, give us the option to customizes those cursed hallways and balconies. -Third, ''switching household feature'' why not making it accessible right from our own lot, like I see my neighbors home next to my loaded lot, and click on it and can switch from there... the fact that I have to load their lot through ''visit blablabla Jones family'' and then have to go through another loading screen just to take control of them render this features useless for what people wanted it to be used for... like yeah cool its working for CL, EL and the new For Rent EPs, but why not with regular residential lots??? -Fourth, stairs railing, cool you guys fixed a bug, why not having spend some time to also update it so we can place one rail at a time, so we actually can customize further our stairs, it was possible in the sims 2 and 3, why not in the sims 4, that would allow for things like railing sticking out through wall to never exist again!! -Fifth, bring lot more bug fixes that render the gameplay restricting or unplayable... werewolves I am looking at you and toddlers (top notch trait).
No one ever really talks about it but I wish they would make it so you can delete things like the TLC feature in some apartments. It ruins good spaces when you can’t turn it on/off.
To be honest I don't even care for this update I don't want to have to delete 23+ of my mods just to get this update because I know if I don't delete my mods it's gonna break my game
Apparently the Sims team confirmed the moveable windows & exterior changes was an update, not a bug. They said they just forgot to put it in the patch notes. I don't know if that's true, but it sounds like this feature is here to stay!
This is definitely a bug/glitch. Btw, the City Living apartment where you could change the door, you could always change that, because that door was actually on an editable area you could actually adjust the exterior walls to a point.
In a way I want to turn one of the apartments into a rooftop dining experience. Also TY for your updates lately. They have been helping me through this weird patching issue and giving me reasonable expectations for the new xpac tomorrow. Additionally cannot wait to tackle San Myshuno with the 4 Rent xpac and see what we can make compatible.
My hope is that if it's a bug that they'll see that the players really like it and just leave it. It's not game breaking or making anything too easy (like the taking selfies with other sims making friendship go up super high), so I don't see a reason to fix it. You could always change balcony doors though because they're not at the edge of the apartment. Since it's not the edge of the owned space you can change it, which is why you can't change the railings on edge of the balconies but can change the doors leading to outside. Technically the balcony doors are within the owned space and aren't the perimeter, so they count as anything that's owned. Oh, also, the Eco Lifestyle balcony a guru once said was because of the coding, so that's why you can't put anything on it. Apparently it has to do with the environment or something? Been a long time since I saw it, but they did address it once and did say it's because of something in the coding that it doesn't treat it like an owned space.
7:10 when i got Eco Lifestyle i had my sim working her butt off to be able to afford that apartment with the green foot print renovation, i was don angry when i discovered that balcony was useless.
This is probably a bug that should have been added, as something you can do on the sims 4, city living, this game lacks ambition and creativity so badly its almost funny 😂😮
I was wondering today what happened. Had my sim move into apartment and buldoze it. Ended up without windows, which was cool. Tho I went with them exactly like they were before to fit the story below. 😂 Hope it’s an update to make For Rent building better.
The update has caused my sims to lag. The rest of the game (background sims etc) work fine, but my sims just stand there for a minute before doing what I've asked them to do. My teen and child sim missed school because they stood around not moving and didn't even have the go to school button on the career tab. It's a mess at the moment.
theyre action-locking. i dont really know how to fix that besides for the team to fix it in a patch or getting an add-on that fixes it.. but that really sucks. its happened to me before & even worse, when there was a fire lmaoo
@@lucasdude Yeah, both of my sims nearly starved to death because they wouldn't go to the fridge, the child sim got stuck in a lop of drawing the same picture. The whole game was like one in game hour behind itself. When the school reminder popped up it said school would be in an hour when it was already 9 o'clock and the girls just standing there.
I feel like they definitely should allow us a little bit of freedom with the apartments now from eco and city living. I think they have to prevent certain things to be deleted, like the main structure but things like windows, doors, walls etc. shouldn't be a big deal because it wouldn't necessarily break any function of that apartment building. If they do keep it in, they need to fix the bits that we should be able to change or maybe we can if we were switched to that other apartment unit?
i agree that this is likely a bug... but i hope not. but i hate that we can't change the lot type of the apartments in evergreen, so annoying. but, i did test the bug/update, and it was so fun making a communal area under the porch on the first floor, outdoor area. i added a clothing line and wash bucket for laundry and some picnic tables and a grill, and a radio so tenants can chill out there on nice summer evenings, like we did back in my old neighborhoods when i lived in urban communities. excited to see what else i can do to customize it more once for rent expansion is out tomorrow! yay

6:30 "All the functionalities to build apartments was already here just locked, but EA decided to unlock it and make a DLC out of it" - Why i don't even have any doubts that it really was like this?!🤣 EA broke me so now i always imagining the worst and the most greedy options possible and don't even have any doubts everything was exactly as i imagined😅
i feel that this just confirms my fears and fuels my anger, that EA basically is making us pay expansion price for this rent 'feature' - being the already existing tools used by devs to create the City Living apartments. We will soon be paying to build the whole game ourselves.
If it was deliberate, that's great, but it should have been done when City Living and Eco Lifetyle were first released. If it was a glitch, there would be an uproar if they patched it because apartments are so limited without this option (I mean, they're still very limited, but *shrug*).
yeah this is why i was so disappointed seeing the loading screens in the pack. given the apartments feature from other packs, the ability to create and edit apartments already had to exist and they just made it visible to users. they're really taking cash-grabby to new levels to be charging money for essentially a cheat. and this pack offers damn near nothing else. mold just seems like a new dustbunny system(which was a STUFF kit), landlord career could have been in a pack refresh for city living, and the entire main feature of the pack is a bts feature unlocked.
I think this just shows how the packs was linked from the beginning. Pack update or just updating the old format and claiming it’s a whole new games that has taken them months. Makes me question what pack up dates/ new expansion pack will there be. Run a pet hospital get to work/ vents for your horse.
It says something about the state of EA when people are more excited about an accidental bug than a whole expansion pack that costs $40. Bugs that are game breaking take forever to patch but I bet you they patch this one pretty fast. What is it now three patches in a row they fixed plants reverting to dirt piles and it's still broken?
I don't understand the point to It u wouldn't be able to do this in RIL so y did everyone want this in the game I'm not hating I just don't understand maybe it's because I'm not a builder but I think it would just look funny if only playable apartments looked different from the rest of the skyscraper.
I swear, one day they're gonna blow up the entire game if they keep not doing any testing and quality control XD. Someday the code will give up on itself.

The thing ab customizing the high rises and apartments 😭 it’s not like you can do it irl, I understand it’s a game but I mean u can’t change the walls outside . I know that applies to the inside too but yeah i don’t even mind not changing windows and stuff . But idk
Is anyone having a problem accessing build mode after the update? I just started a new game and after the update somehow I cant access the build mode it just says game downloading😭
I'm not being funny but I've been renovating apartments for a couple months and it would always let me do this...I thought it was annoying and assumed everyone had the same issue
