Simsie single handedly opened my eyes to representation in media I consume. I remember vividly when she told chat off because her sim was overweight and said "I will not accept any form for judgement of my sim, they represent real people, and there are sitting people right now looking like this and I will not accept you being mean. Be mean to me, but not to others." EXSTREMELY Powerfull. I am very openminded and I just don't judge, but hearing this being said, made so much sense, to have it put into words, how I feel. Thank you Kayla for being such a good rolemodel and inspiration

Yes!! I’m fat myself and seeing Kayla make sims of varying body sizes, including fat sims which is not really common online, is so refreshing. And hearing how she does not tolerate people’s discriminatory or bigoted comments surrounding the representation she includes is even more powerful to me. I appreciate her so much.

I hate when people say "We already have this" or "I don't need this" just because you have it or don't want it doesn't mean it's not important. These sorts of details don't bother me but my daughter loves the fact theres hearing aids in the game as she makes her school friends in game to be her friends and she loves that they can wear hearing aids just like the do in real life. It matters.

i hate how entitled some people can be. getting mad when the sims does add exactly what they want all the time. people have different wants. just because you dont want it doesnt mean that no-one else wants it or that the sims team shouldnt add it. ive seen entitlement like this for a long time, one of my most prominent memories of it was back when snowy escape came out. its sad to see that this mindset hasnt gone away but its good that many players have gotten the representation theyve been wanting

Yeah the only time I dislike extra content is when it doesn't work that great alongside whatever it duplicates (maybe like the different follower mechanics for the "social network" and streaming versus video game streamer vs. all the other ones... I don't think it's even that bad having different numbers on different networks but i wish they'd acknowledge what already existed and maybe make a way to check all of them or even bump one up by promoting it to your followers on another 'app'.... or just in general the fact that we have both the social media star job AND the simfluencer one). Other than that, it's just more stuff to use

its probably also important for everyone who doesnt have it. its not about "people who have skin condicions can just download the cc", its about showing people who dont have it that it exists. people are usually scared of things they dont know/have never seen before. and if this sims update can even just stop one child from seeing someone with vitiligo irl and going "eww" and instead to go "oh they looks like my sim" its amazing enough.
@ILuvAyeAye

That's a great point, I hadn't thought of that. I was thinking that as a kid I was scared of mods (and my computer would have died lol) I never would have thought of CC, and that's probably true for plenty of kids with vitiligo too. But you're right, I grew up playing the Sims and hadn't heard of vitiligo it came up in the news regarding Michael Jackson. If it had been in Sims 2, that absolutely would have been my first exposure to it.

This is EXACTLY the point! There is always so much misinformation about Vitiligo, even with more representation I get asked constantly if I've got skin cancer or severe scarring... LITERALLY! Stuff like vitiligo, stretch marks etc barely gets talked about in real life. I found out through internet what vitiligo was when i was younger, since schools and stuff don’t really teach you about it. When kids see things they have never seen before on people they might be brutally honest about their opinion on it, since kids usually don’t understand how disrespectful their words can be. So games that a lot of kids grew up/grow up with having this stuff to normalise it is so important!

This update has so much more care put into it than I would've ever expected from a huge game like the sims, great to see. I do hope that soon they will be able to add in canes and wheelchairs, though I understand that that would take WAY more work as they'll have to make entirely new animations for both wheelchair using sims and ablebodied sims who will interact with the wheelchair users. The same for canes though there would be fewer animations to handle there. It's obviously a huge undertaking but I know it would mean so much for people to have that representation, especially as wheelchair and cane mods are hard to come by and usually aren't able to have as much detail in them as they would need (eg. ambulatory wheelchair users). I do hope it is something the sims team are looking into.
@blablamelon
@blablamelon 5 месяцев назад
Not saying I don’t want that, I really really do. But how would they do that? Like the walking part would work. Instead of what we have now they would just sit in a wheelchair and roll it or walk with a cane. I think they would definitely be able to add wheelchairs and canes but only in a way sims can’t always use them. Because how would the sims interact with all of the items? Most skill building items has the sim stand and is made for the sims height.
@cassarchibald9530
@cassarchibald9530 5 месяцев назад
@@blablamelon Because there are a lot of items that are usable by both adult and child sims I do think it's definitely possible, however it would require alterations to almost every item in the game including animations for interactions between both objects and the sims. It would be realistic that there are certain things wheelchair using sims cant do (eg. swimming, horseriding etc) unless they are ambulatory wheelchair users which is like you suggest with them only using wheelchairs sometimes. It would be a HUGE project to undergo which is why I don't expect it any time soon, I reckon it will take years but it would not only be fantastic representation to millions of people who can feel seen by the inclusion of these details, but it would add to gameplay as well rather than just being cosmetic.

So having things like hearing aids, scars, stretchmarks, and stuff like that helps us not only make ourselves but improves our game experience. One thing I think that is really lacking is eyelashes. I see all of these cc users using them while we have a rectangle I really think adding lashes to the base game would be such a great addition and they could work like glasses of makeup just be their own catagory yk. I want an official disabled update with prosthetics limps, wheelchairs, crutches, blind sims with guide dogs, ramps, accessibility update. Maybe even a gameplay feature where you can break your arm and have to casts for broken arms and legs that sims can sign for even more chaotic gameplay. I could come in a pack thats based on a world like eco lifestyle but there trying to make a community more accessible for disabled sims. Maybe even mental “disabilities” category could be added into cas with like Adhd, dyslexia, autism, exc. and it makes it harder for sims to do certain skills and focusing. Also like other health issues, with turning like lactose intolerance into one, allergies, and others. Just one big health pack. O and therapy could be something to and a job your sim can have. And would definitely want it to be set in a old European countries like Norway or Denmark or for more variety in the sims worlds. I might end up making a concept art slide show for funsies if anyone has any cool ideas! I’ll come back to this and put a link to it if I ever do.

yes please!! some of the features could/should be base game to go with (like the wheelchairs and maybe some of the more plain designs of prosthetics? also the medical conditions category for compatibility) but to have them even more fully fleshed out in a pack thats focused on health and wellbeing of sims!!! ahhhhhh!!!

I think it would be cool if they also added little people (I've heard some people call them "dwarves", but idk if that is offensive or not). I winder if insomnia would be a good gameplay feature too?
@thund3rnutz

Honestly even if they didn’t explicitly add conditions such as ADHD or autism or any other mental disorders they could just add new traits like inattentive, hyperactive, anxious, sensory processing issues, stuff like that to make sims more unique. we do have the loner, gloomy, and erratic traits but I feel like they lack nuance and don’t really affect the sim’s demeanor as much as they should.
@kitty79er

@@thund3rnutz yah as someone who has some kind of Neurodivergency i think having at least those traits affect sims more would be nice... but not being able to concentrate... or they could have something like dyslexia and anything that grows a reading skill takes longer because they have a hard time reading

I doubt that the Sims 4 will add mental disabilities to the game due to it being a hard thing to get right in such a game and personally I don't wish for it. But when it comes to cosmetic additions I'm ALL on board. If I were to make my Sim self I want the ability to add forearm crutches. I want the ability to add wrist braces, ankle braces, compression gloves, etc. etc. all these things I used in my day to day life to help me.

I love this! And what I'm BEGGING for skin detail wise is moles/beauty marks that can be dragged around, or at the minimum, just more standard placements. I have one on my face on the side of my chin by my lip, and I can never make a sim look like me since it's such a defining feature of who I am.

I am quite mole-y. I have five on my face, one on my earlobe, and many on my body. Some I love, some I hate (I get those ones removed). But I love all of the ones on my face! I feel moles are much more common and we should have more options.

as someone with vitiligo, this update has really warmed my heart. while i was able to figure out what triggers my vitiligo (and have since avoided it, causing my skin patches to pretty much disappear), this condition will remain with me my entire life. if i had this update when i was 14/15, struggling with thoughts of "what if it returns" or "what if something changes and i can't stop it this time" would have been so much easier. i could look to my favorite game and see that this is something normal enough to be included in a life sim game. i am so, so glad that this representation exists.

Here's a quick story about representation in the sims. One of my friends has stretch marks due to health issues she had when she was very young and has always been embarrassed by it. When I showed her the sims stretch marks she felt so much more empowered and it went a long way into helping her feel more confident in her body because she was able to see how Lots of different people can have skin like hers. She was also beyond thrilled to have the disability representation that we have in the game. This is just one of many stories about how much this can mean to players. Some people may not care as much, but for the individuals who are now represented it means so much!

Now i want Wonderful Whims, MCC Comand centre, Woohoo Welness, PRETEENS, slice of life and other big mods, The modders should be paid by EA for making these mods. And they should be added to the game. And as a glasses wearer I want goggles in the game so my glasses wearing sims can see by the pool and underneith the water. @gwendolynrobinson3900
@gwendolynrobinson3900 5 месяцев назад
Lovingly, yes, there is a huge difference between skin detail assets being added and new gameplay and settings and a whole life state being added. Major mods like those are probably for the best to stay as mods, many of these modders make money from their patreon and if there's 0 reason to update these huge mods anymore, that's taking away some of their income if no one comes to them for their mod anymore. And it's especially unlikely that EA would commission modders to implement their mods into the game. It's important that representation is added, but MCCC is not a super important thing the sims needs in the BG.
