The Sims House Party would not be released today 🪩 | Retro-Review 

One of the things that I like the most about the first saga of the sims is that it was aimed at an adult and mature audience. The later sagas are more "teen" which I like too but they don't compare to the charm of the first sims 😊

These lots are phenomenal! Also, I got House Party expansion when I was about 8 years old. When I bought the cake and the entertainer came out I was SO shocked and immediately turned off my game because I found it so raunchy that I was afraid I'd get in trouble lol. I used to play it secretly :P

The sims 1 absolutely is the most adult game in the series and I hope the life simulators coming out in the next couple of years will make use of this niche that the Sims 3&4 really were unable to cater to imo. The Sims 1, I think, was also able to do that because it was, in style and presentation, realistic and hard enough to draw audiences into its weirdness but still goofy enough that its more mature elements were acceptable.

me as a kid: the people in the cake are so funny! when I was older: ooooooh okay that's what it was....

Back around 2005 when I was little, I remember being gifted the Sims Complete Collection, and I remember ordering the large birthday cake on one of my first times playing and being shocked when the woman popped out of the cake, I had to immediately cover the monitor cause my parents were in the room hahah.

I've been playing this game for the better part of the last fifteen years, and yet I had no idea you could keep calling on the telephone for more guests to arrive! The original TS never ceases to amaze me.

I discovered TS1 right after House Party was released. Was looking up cheat codes for SimTower game and stumbled across The Sims and this newly released EP. For me it came as an embodied dream - to get a closer look upon life of SimCity citizens. I was 25 back then and to this day House Party is one of my favorite EPs and it deeply impacted my play style - I HATE family play and life of my Sims is never ending party, be it Sims 1, 2, 3 or 4, lol. They're all rich, famous, careless social butterflies 😂

It gets really dark that in Sims 1 you call for party 10 times that about 120 people almost everybody and some pets in town will present at the house, delete the door to burn them alive or play a hunger maze game, after that the neighborhood will be a ghost town and the owner gets crazy by the crowded ghosts at night

Aside from the cool cool video, I absolutely ADORE your builds, they have so much personality and detail, like if its built by Maxis.

The Sims 1 and 2 era was the best period. However regarding the maturity and humor, Sims 1 is unmatched. I always wanna say "bring this back and we won‘t laugh at this scamming you guys call Sims 4“ but for whatever crazy reason people are still buying Sims 4 content

i bought Livin Large and House Party when they came out, they were the only 2 packs I had for a long time

Drew Carey had a sitcom and in one episode, all the characters became sims. It was even partially animated and pretty hilarious!

Another great review!! Yeah, House Party as a concept is the most forgettable one, but understandable -if Livin' Large was a pack focused on the individual sims, House Party is on the socialization and making friends aspect. The main problem with this pack is that it is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT (at least on my experience), to make a great party. You need really expensive items (really cool lavish buildings, btw), and to really take an effort on keeping each sim entertained. Which, after some time, it gets too boring. The most interesting thing, as in real life, is what *happens* during the party. The new objects (another major plus of this pack), give new group activities for sims to do and, as in LL, new situations and conflicts to happen. The "Adult entertainer" is really fun to use in a party full of couples😆 This, and maybe Hot Date, are the last one of the more "adult strategy game" vibe TS had initially. I suspect EA demanded to tone down the more dark and adult aspects of the game in order to keep the Teen rating -I believe TS2 had something like that happen, too. Had it happened another way, maybe the Maxis team would have crossed another lines on subsequent expansions. On the other hand, the fact that they cancelled SimsVille seems to have motivated them to expand on TS, which may have not had more expansions had they released this game. I think the best aspect of House Party, though, are its themes; Western and Tiki are not really what I would have expected for this pack, but they are such a "sims" thing to do, I can't imagine the game without that. And they really commited to it -TS1 has the best walls and floors. As always, thanks for your hard work!!!

The most adult themed pack of the entire mainline series. I distinctly remember my dad telling my suster and I not to talk about its contents to our mom, but since we were truly sheltered, we had no clue why then...years later, knowing what the cages and cakes represent, I giggle. However, especially in the US, this pack should be the least of parental concerns, as hate runs rampant (1st Ammendment allows to build up to action), resulting in far too many towards violence (claiming their 2nd Amendment rights). Sadly, in the US, the number one cause of death of children is firearms. 😢 So, to end on a lighter note, let the kids have their cake instead❣👏

As a kid House Party was my favorite solely because of the dance tiles and that rodeo bull ride haha. I definitely didn't understand some of the adult implications of this expansion as a kid. I remember playing all the expansions as a kid apart from "Hot Date" because my mom forbid us from buying that one- but I guess the adult content in THIS expansion was something she wasn't aware of lol.

I‘m binging your Retro Reviews right now, I love them! The Sims holds a special place in my childhood memory, and it has just a different atmosphere and vibe that the newer games don‘t have. I LOVE your videos and they make me so ridiculously happy!! I rarely meet anyone who is still as much in love with The Sims 1 as I am. I watched all your retro reviews but wanted to comment under this one because House Party was my first EP and therefore my forever favorite. Gotta love those inflatable sofas, saloon doors and mechanical bulls ❤️ Side note: I didn't understand English when I first started playing The Sims and it took like two hours for me to figure out how to build walls, and over a YEAR before I learned that my sims can actually get a job and go to work 😂 like who needs work when you can spam rosebud and ride mechanical bulls all day??
