Ufff. Tough one. My opinion "Say Something" is the best cover she has done or anyone has ever done of that song. When you have the artist who did that song from A Great Big World tweet out "Wow @KZtandingan Wow" then post her performance from The Singer on his twitter account. You know its something special.
If you take the time to dig more deeply into the fabric of this arrangement, it reveals the true genius of KZ. Born of a lifetime of musicianship and performance, her incredible pitch control, timing and diction allows her to emulate the effect of the vocoder (autotune) throughout the piece, long after it was turned off (after the massive note rolloff at the end of the intro). Then, her command of every possible music genre you can imagine, from Latin to Rock to Rap to R&B, (in other songs also Jazz, Indie, .... let's just say "Everything!"), is revealed as she strategically uses the dynamics of each to drive home the emotions of the persona she has adopted to tell the story of the song. Finally, beyond her musical genius, which includes tastefully ingenious adaptations of melody and timing, if you watch her body and her eyes throughout this, or any other live performance, you can see the true greatness of KZ. She sings with her whole being. Not just her mind, not just her voice, she pours everything of herself into every moment of every performance. Her every gesture, every delightful dance across the stage, every facial expression and every flash of her eyes...they are all fully committed to making us feel what she feels.
KZ is mesmerizing on stage...I couldn't take my eyes off of her! She brought everything to this performance including the kitchen sink! She needs more hype!

KZ had a US and Canada Tour back in 2019 and videos online showed how she gave the audience their money's worth. She has the same energy on her concerts here in PH. There is NOONE like her. There is NOONE that can even come close to comparing to her. The swag she has! The tone! The notes! The way she can twist a song to make it HER song. Even these comments I've just made do not do her justice.
KZ's rendition of rolling in the deep in this instance is almost theatrical. Here's my take on her performance which I believe has several creative layers: interpretation of the story in the song, melodic changes, vocal style, and stage presence. I want to share what I feel about how KZ interpreted the story. The creative decision to start with an acoustic guitar and then the utilization of the auto tune is pure genius. The guitar implies romance that rolled into some sort of a bubble as soon as KZ begin singing with the auto tune. The transition is confusing- acoustic to auto tune - exactly what KZ wants to evoke (what happened after she gave her all in love?). The robotic sound effected by the auto tune is a reference for manipulation as KZ (who feels treated like a robot) sings "you played it... you played..." while standing still in that dark stage, her facial expression is sad and defeated. She wanted to break away from this unfortunate state.When KZ belts out a sustained note with the auto tune, that signals breaking away from the dark - she pushed it away (see her hand gesture before the sustained belt). The camera moved and rolled (underline rolled). The stage is now filled with streaks of light. She's free! She's no longer sad. But she's angry because something beautiful is all put to waste. It takes a technical vocal skill to utilize an auto tune in a live performance especially when KZ is clear what feeling she wants to communicate with her audience. KZ "owned" this song right in the very beginning. The rap is just a bonus. My two cents.
