Tears flowed from audiences everywhere, but the ending to "The Sixth Sense" was a happy ending! Cole found peace. Cole and his mother found peace. They understood each other and were no longer afraid. Anna found peace. She accepted Malcolm's death and was now ready to move on with her life. Malcom found peace. He made peace with himself, with Cole and especially with Anna. He was now ready to move on to.....???

Cole got the lead role in the play because he talks to dead people. The teacher asks who Cole is talking to and the ghost of a burned person is seen walking away. The teacher reveals that there was a fire in the theater that killed some people. (The ghost that was walking away was a theater producer that was killed in that fire before their play had the chance to be performed.... that ghost has been coaching Cole in acting .... and helping Cole with his play is letting that ghost have closure and move on).

One of my favorite points in the story is that, at the very beginning, when they are discussing the plaque, she says he’s put everything second, even her. Then at the very end, he realizes he has to tell her something: she was never second. It’s such a subtle, beautiful way to establish and resolve his unfinished business. Plus the 1-2 emotional gut punches of the resolutions with the main characters and their loved ones… such brilliant acting all around. Finally, hat tip to Olivia Williams. I know she had very few lines and was kind of a background character, but she tread the line between alienated spouse and grieving widow so well, it fooled EVERYBODY. Obviously Willis, Osment, and Collette get and deserve accolades for their acting, but Williams never gets mentioned, and she definitely deserves it.

True story lol

Classic movie. Really reinvented the ghost haunting genre. Sometimes spirits hold on too tight and can’t let go until they have closure. The ghost that was trapped with Cole up that “windey stairs” was supposedly the ghost of a slave that was being punished and locked in there. It’s not evil. He doesn’t know he’s dead and he’s scared. Also, Cole’s teacher was certainly very condescending towards Cole which make him a bit a a jerk because he himself was understandably shaken by Cole’s strange knowledge of his childhood secret of being a stutterer. he obviously had to work hard to overcome that. I’m not saying he was a saint but again he is not evil. He also clearly tried to make it up to Cole but giving him the lead in the play as King Arthur.

In the theater NO ONE caught on. At that moment everyone gasped and whispered to each other, and then, all in a rush, you immediately started thinking about every scene that dead Malcom was in and how it all fit together perfectly, and how obvious it was in retrospect, and as everyone was leaving the theater you heard multiple people saying just that same thing to friends as they passed by. It was a very unifying moment.

A balloon, a sweater, a doorknob, etc. When it is just the school kids bullying him or a classroom scene there is no obvious red. In interviews M. Night said this was intentional. It just clicked with me that Malcolm's psychiatric notes he's looking at while he's sitting on the bench across from Cole's house - had to have been his notes on Vincent, because he used the same words in his first notes about Cole - possible mood disorder, etc. He had not met with Cole yet, and Cole hadn't been to a psychiatrist before, so those notes were not about him specifically.

The hallmark of a good twist ending is if, on your second viewing, you can see all the hints, the clues, the things that seem SO OBVIOUS in hindsight, about the coming twist that you missed the first time. A twist for twists sake is boring. A twist that was foreshadowed in the most subtle of ways, that makes you go "of couse!" out of both shock and surprise but still makes total sense in context...that's what these early Shaymalan films did well. This film is a masterpiece.

Yay…a new Whimsory video! And a good film choice. I remember when this came out I kept hearing about the surprise ending no one sees coming and thought I would see it. I was genuinely surprised when I left the theatre that night.

The reason the twist and reveal at the end works so incredibly well is because no one in the audience knows any of the rules of this story world going in.

I was raised by a single mom struggling to keep all the plates spinning while also having to deal with my weird becoming a teen bullshit. Toni Collette did a fantastic job. She reminded me of mom.

The best thing about this movie, is that even if it had NO twist ending, it still would have been an incredible movie. The climax would have been when he tells his mom about the ghosts in the car. Her acting in that scene is devastatingly real. But Osmund and Willis' also give their best acting performances ever too.

Isn't it just a total masterpiece. The scene at the end when he 'communicates' with his mum is in my top 3 movie scenes ever of all time. The acting, particularly from Toni Collette & Haley Joel Osment in the entire film was oscar worthy.

I saw this twice at the theaters. I gasped when i first learned Bruce Willis was dead during the entire time, and I was too focused to be aware of the audience around me. I paid attention at the second viewing, and yes-everyone reacted in shock at that moment.

I watched this at the cinema 3 days after release. About 15-20 minutes into the movie, someone in the theatre yelled out, "Bruce Willis is a Ghost". I was, WTF does that even ........... oh shit. I still occasionally wish to the universe that that person suffered a tragic karmic fate.

@@bonolioI want to find a person like that and ask them why would they do that? Same thing with people that spoil in youtube comments with series reactions for future episodes... I just can't for the life of me understand what they gain from spoiling like that? I wouldn't even throttle them, I just want a 10 min discussion analyzing their personality.

It has been more than 20 years since I have seen The Sixth Sense in its entirety again, but I remember the most important and emotional parts. I cried when you cried in the scene in the car near the end. This is your best reaction so far. And if a child tells you that you're ugly, he doesn't know what he's saying, obviously 😄😄😄

A.I. (2001) is another great Haley Joel Osment performance. It's a project started by Stanley Kubrick and filmed by Spielberg, using Kubrick's pre-production, after Kubrick's passing. For Spielberg it's very patient and focused. It's an eerie and deliberate sci-fi adventure-drama for when you're in mood for such a thing

The scene in the car gets me every time. Haley and Tonis performances were outstanding. But the look on Mischas face when she appears in the tent and the realisation of what happened to her chokes me up. Such A Phenomenal Movie.

Yup. A quarter century since it came out, and people still try to avoid spoiling it for others. Definitely a "must see." It gets me every single time, and I've seen it a dozen times or more. The twist is just that good and it's perfectly executed. My brother-in-law had COMPLETELY spoiled "Silence of the Lambs" for me and hadn't heard about "The Sixth Sense" yet... and I picked it up on DVD (my first DVD, actually)... and I was SORELY tempted to spoil it for him... but instead, I watched it with him and periodically mentioned casually "There it is. They just given the whole thing away"... and he had no idea what I was talking about. Then the twist at the end, and the look on his face... it was PRICELESS. Thanks for sharing this experience with us!

Many of us looked pretty awkward, or hadn't grown into our features, or dressed iffy, or has dietary deficiencies growing up.... And finally got old enough or grew into ourselves- and became at least normal looking if not outright attractive. But few of "us" look in a mirror or at a photo or video and see ourselves as we fully are; and if you were told you were "ugly" when you get it is even harder to see yourself accurately. I was a late bloomer lol, and it took to age 50 to look at my 16yo to 28 yo pix and suddenly realize I was a very pretty to gorgeous young woman. And not half bad for a mature woman either 😹💅 But I never saw that or heard any compliments as real when I was a young teen to middle aged woman. 💁

Watching someone react to a movie is almost like getting to watch the movie for the first time again. Your honest and heartfelt reactions are among the best. You cry I cry, you laugh I laugh, you jump...well, I don't jump, but it's still funny. ;) Thank you for doing these videos, they're so fun to watch. You're videos are always "must clicks" for me.

Here are three clues that are easy to miss: 1. When Cole and Malcolm first see each other across the street, Cole takes off running. 2. Cole asks Malcolm if he is a good doctor, and Malcolm answers: "I used to be." 3. Outside the girl's bedroom, Malcolm is not reflected in the door knob.

2) No, Malcom didn’t know he was dead, only Cole did. He quit calling himself a good doctor after a former patient shows up in his house TELLING HIM that he had failed him.

I was so happy that you made it to the end without figuring out the coming plot twist. Always fun to watch the moment of realization and you didn't disapoint. I was really thinking you would figure it out because of how attentive to detail you are. I figured the restaurant scene would tip you off. Anyway, great reaction and I agree about Toni Collette. She really owns that role and you feel for her not understanding what is going with her little boy.
