Maggie (Kristen Wiig) tells Lance (Luke Wilson) about her affairs and then confronts Milo (Bill Hader) for leading Lance to the truth.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Craig Johnson's drama The Skeleton Twins stars Saturday Night Live alumni Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig as suicidal siblings Milo and Maggie. After Milo cuts his wrists, Maggie moves him into her home in New York where she lives with her husband (Luke Wilson). Both brother and sister are dealing with severe emotional issues stemming from their own father's suicide, as well as their absent mother. While back in his hometown, Milo reconnects with a former lover (Ty Burrell) who was also his high-school English teacher. Meanwhile, Maggie has concerns about becoming a mother, and can't keep herself from cheating on her husband with her SCUBA instructor.

There is something about comedians....really good comedians....where their dramatic acting skills and performances are out of this world. Maybe it has to do with intelligence. You have to be pretty smart to be very funny. Maybe it is their ability to master emotions. There is something special about someone who can repeatedly make you laugh and feel good. Hader and Wiig fit into that mold. Someone also mentioned Robin Williams as an example. His part in Good Will Hunting was excellent and very moving.

Milo's reaction to that insult. So many emotions all in one moment. He's hurt, in disbelief, he secretly agrees with her....and he's trying so hard to hold it all together and act like he's not hurt. Bill Hader is a brilliant actor.

He is but I don't think he was trying to pretend like it doesn't hurt him, I think the meaning of it hasn't sipped in yet and then, like you said, he realizes what she said and he's back in that bathtub again, feeling everything he was trying to tell himself was a moment of drunken desperation, but when she slaps him back to the beginning he can't deny it anymore. Remember he refused to admit that he was thinking of jumping off that roof. He's scared of his own darkness and she's forcing him to face it, and it's a flat out traumatic moment, I think.

One of the reasons I love this film so much is that they didn't make a parody of her husband. I can easily recall a ton of films about cheating, where the husband is depicted as a buffoon. Instead, Lance is the most kind-hearted man ever and this makes Maggie so much more a well-rounded character.

Every time I watch this scene and hear her say "Well, maybe next time you should cut deeper " my heart breaks. She says it in a way that makes me feel really sad. She's a really good actress, and I'm not saying it because I'm a fan, it's just because that's the true.

It had the lousy luck of coming out in 2014 which was just a STACKED year for movies and performances. For my money, Hader and Wiig should've been nominated for this. Hader especially floored me with pretty much everything he did in this movie. Hands downs one of the best performances of that decade to me.

It's so strange to think that two people who I've grown up with who've made me laugh SOOOO hard could make me cry. I mean, I know they're talented and all, but guys, it's Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader, two of the funniest SNL cast members. It's crazy how good their dramatic acting chops are!
