It's a good story, but what kinda ticks me off about it is the expectation that the author created when Toru uses magic. In the story when he goes to the magic shop he creates this huge sky piercing pillar of flame from a spell meant to just light a candle and he wasn't even trying. Same for the water spell, he created this huge deluge from a simple create water spell. Those were just everyday life spells, not even meant to be attack spells. Then, he goes to the forest and uses ACTUAL attack magic for the first time, and it's 500x weaker than the magic he used before? He's using an actual fireball rather than just a spell to light candles AND he cast it multiple times. Dude should have created a fireball the size of the freaking forest. And the earth needles he used should have pierced straight through the rock worm queen or boosted her to the clouds or some nonsense. But no, just regular spells even if they were more "effective" than normal beginner level magic. It's almost a complete 180 from the expectations the author created during the initial magic test for the mc. Little inconsistencies like that just rub me the wrong way :( Then there was the fact that the story stated if he did well in the combat test for an adventurer he could start out at rank E, but even though he defeated a C rank adventurer he still started at rank F. The surprise at him defeating the rock worm queen was annoying too, because the receptionist was surprised that a "rank E" adventurer beat it, even though she KNOWS he's stronger than a rank C and is worthy of being a rank B at least.
