Dermatologist Fayne Frey says the multi-billion dollar skincare industry is indeed tricking us into buying lotions, potions and wrinkle creams that don't deliver on what they promise. She tells HealthCall's Lee Kelso why anti-aging creams, eye creams, and expensive moisturizers are worthy of suspicion, and how her new book "The Skincare Hoax" exposes the facts.

Vitamin A does work. And if you are consistent retinaldehyde, or Retin-A your acne will start to disappear, you will have clear and smooth skin that only continues to get better. Consistency is the key. Being long-suffering and very careful, a tiny bit each night goes a long way. But during the day hyaluronic acid as base, and sun blocker on top with zinc.

What about vitamin C. Thats supposed to penetrate the skin. Also Retinals do seem to help acne and aging. Thank you. Sad to think we are being so deceived. I have spent a fortune on skincare. My mum 91 year old spends nothing and her skin is better than mine!

It works. L-ascorbic acid is the most studied along with RetinA and sunscreen. For peptides, they will not do much other than moisturize unless they have a delivery vehicle like lactic glycolic copolymer that gets it into the skin where it needs to go. This is a doctor not a cosmetic chemist. I’d watch or read stuff from lab muffin beauty science and Alexeducatedmess they know what they’re talking about.

This lady is a dermatologist and has no training in chemistry/cosmetic chemistry. Some of what she says is true but some is not. It is true that glycerin is better than hyaluronic acid as a humectant but the rest of this is just 🫤 no one is using Retinoids and then a steroid to help with dryness nightly unless it’s been extremely damaged and inflamed. The benefits of a retinoid far outweigh the risks for a vast majority who uses them. Also of course sunscreen is important. European and Korean and Japanese sunscreens are far superior compared to American ones. Our fda hasn’t approved new UV filters in 50 years so we’re stuck with junk filters

The chemicals in chemical sun screens are extremely dangerous. Better to use zinc
