all laptop microphones will sound good if you go into the mic settings in windows and disable "Enable Audio Enhancements" under the advanced Tab. go ahead, try it!
I have a Lenovo Ideapad Z50 with 2 core i7 4th gen and GeForce 840m. Its 7 years old and still going strong. I just have a problem with the hinge and replaced the hdd with ssd when it got slow. All valve games play perfectly except HL Alyx of course. Going to buy a new laptop next year. This is what my dad bought me when I was 10 now I will be 17 after 3 days. 10/10
Great review! Thank you! Good to see that the RTX 3060 can do 95+ W in performance model. A lot of people are mis-led and thought this is a 60W RTX 3060.
I found that slim 7 description on Bestbuy says the Graphics card is GeForce RTX 3060 Max-Q. I get confused whether the laptop in this video is the same with that on bestbuy. And I would like to know whether there are much differences between RTX 3060 Max-Q and RTX 3060.
@@woodywan4027 it's all about the power limit for RTX 30 series. RTX3060 Max Q for Legion Slim 7 is rated at 100W. Regular RTX 3060 can go as far as 130W. Examples include RTX 3060 on Lenovo Legion 7/Legion 5 Pro/Legion 5, or Dell G15 (after BIOS update). More power consumption generally equates to better performance, but at the cost of chunky chassis and less mobility.
@@yehuang6773 I love how now a days the difference between a “chunky” and “slim” chassis is like 5mm. Which is funny because that extra 5mm gets you 4 more hours of battery, a full 130w card, and less noticeable fans. It’s crazy the stuff they can do with 5mm.
Currently this exact model is on sale at BestBuy at $1399 which is pretty good IMO and the RTX 3060 is pretty fast here, faster than the G15's RTX 3060 version or the anemic performance of the M16 with 11800H. Good to see that in some games, it is beating the low powered RTX 3070 laptops as well.
@Dougie I mean I'm pretty new to all this. But I've been absolutely loving this thing so far. I'm glad I spent an extra 300 to get the 3060 instead of the 3050ti. If you're a heavy gamer, I'd definitely recommend it. The 6GB of VRAM makes a huge difference compared to 4GB. And you definitely need the 16GB of normal RAM for modern games nowadays. But yeahh it's been awesome!
picked this up at Bestbuy for $1099 on sale!!! Replacing my G14 which as much as I love, it's getting a bit small. Under performance mode, the GPU can go up to 100W depending on CPU wattage. I'm not sure where all the reviewers are getting crazy temps from, you and Matthew Moniz both, maybe you guys didn't clean bloatware or something but the highest CPU temps I've seen was like 82deg, GPU low 70s and that was around 90-100W during testing. I know Matthew Moniz updated his review I think after another consumer reported vastly different temps than his review. Oh and the RAM in the 16GB model (the 8GB sodimm) is the faster 1Rx8, so least we get the good ram in this one.
I want to get this one for programming and video editing mostly, light gaming,1hr per day maybe, how will the thermals be? I can get the 5 pro at the same price but that thing is too heavy for my shoulders. Please reply
Yup just use skin or coating... i've got mine for slate grey one as previous model, so no fingerprint issue. Lenovo gave me option between slate grey & shadow black. Quite good deal actually... $1250 for 1080p, 5800H, 3060, 32gb, 1Tb, no RGB (corsair burn battery a lot)...
Not really, Lenovo is not such a good brand in all types of stuff...i sadly know from experience... And then again, 15"..... For real???? Get that steamdeck.....
@@a-1291 what's the use of having 4k on a 15 inch laptop..... And the brand? Might aswell get the steam deck to play games on, and it can even act like a pc
@@LadyRiderc People who buy laptops dont buy them for gaming only especially "slim" and light laptops. Most people buy these laptops for school/work and gaming on the side other wise just buy a desktop PC with that logic. A Laptop is also MUCH more powerful than the steamdeck but it doesnt make sense to even compare the two as theyre not in the same category and price difference. 4K on a 15inch laptop is imo also pretty useless as 1080p/1440p are the sweetspot 4k adds almost nothing but powerdraw and heavier duty. thats why u should buy the 1080p 165hz version instead of the 4k version
I have to wonder, who would care about fingerprints so much as to make it a deal breaker? If anything its a better reminder to actually wipe the grime off you're leaving to otherwise slowly build up anyway. The amount of absolutely disgusting laptops I've had to service leads me to believe few if any of those people exists. Maybe I'm just to overly function oriented, to think something like that should matter.
Is there a "Hardware Lighting" option in iCue for the keyboard? That will set a permanent setting that is loaded even before the OS and iCue load. Might help avoiding the various issues you noted.
I got this 2 weeks ago and my god its great. Just letting you know, it Comes With HDMI and Thunder port to usb C adapter so youre fine if youre worried about those display port! The touchpad click sound absolutely fine, this review over exaggerated its "issue". Also how the hell did he just briefly brush away how good the mic is?!
@@hi-dq4sh it does get warm during gaming esp on ultra/high graphic settings (ive been playing Destiny 2, CoD Warzone and Warframe). Esp the top exhaust vent above the keyboard. But if you have a decent laptop cooler with fans directly underneath the bottom intake vent of the slim 7, laptop stays on a cooler side of warm! (I have Cooler Master Notepal U3 and replaced the stock fan with 3 Noctua quiet fans) Great thing about laptop cooler paired with the slim 7 is that there is a Significant difference in fan noise between using and not using a laptop cooler! Also, not a lot of people point out that the spacing of the keys of keyboards are also used as airflow for thermo regulation (it was lowkey adversed by lenovo legion)
@@jaredcarroll483 performance should be fine as if youre comparing similar specs. G14 seems to have rtx 1650 or 2060 common for that laptop but if you can get a 3060 for the similar price as the legions, i dont see why not. I only ended up choosing slim 7 over the g14 was the screen size (this was the biggest deal breaker for me), refresh rate being slightly slower on g14, having cable ports on the back than just on the sides like g14, and price/availability (g14 was more expensive and all sold at compared to slim 7 at the time). I feel like me having to choose slim 7 over g14 was mostly preference based.
Tip for tech newbies: spray some Pledge furniture spray onto a cloth and wipe the body of your laptop with it. Let it sit for an hour and repeat at least twice. No more fingerprints for months. Total cost $5. This guy digs this computer for this issue but it's actually a non-issue.
@@HardwareCanucks I don't disagree with your point. However, an oleophobic coating (like Pledge) is what manufacturers already apply to tech products and stainless steel kitchen appliances to prevent fingerprint smudges. So those chemicals are already all around us (for better or for worse).
The fingerprint thing is because they design these to be "show room ready" because looking pretty in a show room sells units. Kind of how top end phones have all these fancy finishes and then people slap a cheap piece of a rubber around it.
Could you do a review comparing both the Slim 7, and the G14? They seem to be the closest battle in comparison, and I've seen alot of people express their confliction between which one to go with. Including myself. Would be insanely appreciated!
@@jaredcarroll483 Thank you for your answer. I spent the last 4h checking videos, and I think I will go for the m16 (for the great screenas I do photography)
ive been looking for a perfect balance between thin, and performance in a laptop. Thinking about asus flow x13 but too weak in general performance, almost convinced for msi stealth 15M regardless of its weak storage and rather unsatisfactory proc. Man i am relieved and have found the answer! Thanks a bunch!
Hey there, awesome video. Have you tried using VirtualBox VMs on this AMD chip? Do you know if it runs decently well? I have a gen 1 ryzen 5 1600 and I ran into issues whilst trying to get virtualbox to work, so yeah I was wondering if it was any different on the legion?
I don't get why does a normal or gaming laptop comes with full size keyboard...while most high end gaming keyboards are tkl or less. tkl keyboard with a centered big touchpad is better imo.🤷♂️ front facing speakers besides keyboards are way more convenient and tkl gives better key spacing/ size specially on laptops.
Are you going to do a review of the framework laptop? Probably the most hyped I've ever been about a laptop. Would love to hear your thoughts about it!
An advantage that Lenovo has over Asus is that you can get an onsite warranty with Lenovo. This is a necessity for those of us who use the same laptop for work and play. Students too!
if the usb a's ports were one in the each side, the usb c's were backwards because they are display ports, and have the internet rj 45 port behind as well, two ram slots and a 16:10 screen this would be perfect
@@firstNamelastName-ho6lv Legion 5 pro? Legion 7? But this two are bigger then slim 7, have others examples but i forgot, and dont have compromises about this things that i listed, because of the sizes
It's on a huge sale for only 1,000 (brand new) at my local best buy but I'm not getting it solely because of the num pad, yes, I'm stupid, yes, I'll probably regret it, but I just hate num pads, it ruins my typing experience lol
yes but the components are far from similar. the 3050ti is already a weak card and only 35 watts on that is barely good. Its still great for less demanding titles though. Would love a lenovo counterpart liek that definitely
I just got my brand new Lenovo Legion 7 slim with 32GB RAM, AMD RYZEN 9 5900HX, RTX 3060, 2TB SSD all for 1799. Not a bad deal. so far loving the performance of this machine. Good Review !
6:26 That metal clinging sound by the trackpad sounds like it is a manufacturing defect. My Legion Slim 7 doesn’t have this sound. Also where were the reviews 2 weeks ago when I needed them? This laptop was available for a month or two but there was not a single review of it until a week ago. What was that about?
@@jeffreylebowski1240 I got mine from Best Buy open box so I saved some money on it. I would recommend it. Looks wise it’s very mute and you would have to look twice to tell that it was a gaming laptop. Keyboard is high quality and display is very good. Performance in games is also ok just keep it on a cooling pad while gaming to keep temps down. Other than that it’s a well balanced laptop.
Just picked this laptop up from BestBuy. It was a good condition returned item so I got it for $530. My 2012 inspiron 15's screen has been flickering so I think it's a good time to upgrade.
Finger print issue would be easy to take care of. Just get a skin for it. Might be great for someone looking for a *powerful* laptop but doesn't want a think, heavy, loud traditional gaming laptop. I did wish it had the ability to go to 64GB Memory. I need a new laptop and its on my list of possibilities. I really want a fully loaded macbook pro 16 but that is CRAZY expensive.
Wants the Legon 5 pro but they are sold out, maybe i will check this out instead, take less power but also lighter EDIT: Placed my order, USD$1,676.92 vs the USD$2,086.83 Legion 5 pro RTX 3070 from where I live. 16GB+1TB, QHD 165hz, RTX3060. Trading a RTX 3070 for a RTX 3060 seemed acceptable for the lighter and better build only problem is it would take more than a month to ship. Feeling pretty excited for it to arrive.
@@vihasharma804 good, i disabled the rgb software. Very quiet under normal load, gets moderate loud gaming, smooth framerates as long as i temper my expectations, old titles a few years back are giving me all maxed settings
it depends on what version you get. For example, directly from Lenovo it comes with a 1Tb SSD. However, the best buy version (which I'm pretty sure are also the review units) come with the 512Gb SSD.
Guyz , there's one info i struggle to find .... when say we're in silent Mode , is the Freq loked to 2.4 ghz (cpu) or , is it reaaching this freq on stress test and then varies down to lower ? $Exellent review as usual !!
Is the gaming performance data captured while disabling the integrated graphics via the ‘hybrid mode' switch? I am assuming the 'hybrid mode' option is Lenovo's equivalence of a mux switch?
I like it a great deal for its performance in such a thin and light chassis but I am very concerned about that CPU running at 100 degrees C in performance mode. I think that I will lean more to the Zephyrus G14 as it manages its CPU temperatures much better even though it's a "HS" processor.
I recently got this laptop and have been testing it out. It run HOT. Like ouch to the touch hot. But its only hot where the thermals are, so the bottom of the laptop and the speaker bar. Centre keyboard is warm, but the WASD and num pad stays very cool. Overall, if you throw on a cooling pad underneath you'll be fine.
@@RobloxTradingMiddleMan I’m not sure exactly I have the slim 7 and temps are in the high 90s for the cpu and mid 70s on the gpu. To the touch as mentioned by the other comment it does get hot in certain areas, but not in important areas like the keyboard or trackpad. Like every laptop, their cooling differs from each other, but as long as you keep it on a cooling pad while gaming or whatever it should be manageable temperatures.
@@19973x zephyrus g14 runs pretty damn hot too, and definitely gets up to the “ouch to the touch” range. Pretty much any of these laptops with the 30 series cards are gonna get really hot, some might cool slight better than others but in general it’s just a drawback of powerful gaming laptops
Perhaps 16:10 screen would've allowed for more space to either take that m.2 slot out of the way of the battery for more battery or a dedicated 2nd ram slot instead of it being soldered on.
So what legion slim 7(r7 5800H+3060) is on sale for 1350 and the rog g14(r9 5900Hs+3060) is 1300. Which one should I go with? (the legion is delivered in 60 days, the g14 in delivered in 7 days)
@@LusivableM0T right?! I’m seeing quite a few ppl complain about this. Maybe bad thermal paste or defect? I’ve had mines for like a week now and so far no thermal issues and I’m surprise my fans haven’t sound like Jets.(try pushing it with playing at max settings and for about 4 hours?) and pretty quiet fans with high performance. I guess I got lucky 🤷🏽♂️
Apparently that lighting software is eating battery like crazy! Is there a chance that you could check battery after disabling it (and it has a service also!!)?
iCUE has been known to constantly eat CPU resources, I personally did testing on my laptop when I was using Corsair mouse in the past and my CPU power draw would spike higher than it usually would without iCUE. As a result the battery life was lower than without the software and my CPU temps would be really high when I used to play games. After I uninstalled iCUE the CPU use dropped along with the aforementioned issues. Corsair really needs to fix this. Don't know if they ever will.
this thing is a fucking steal at $1099 right now at bestbuy great overall as long as your not a power user or some power hungry gamer trying to push 1440 display while streaming on twitch lol. EDIT** So, you can play wow at max settings if you turn off RTX and shadows to low at 1440p 165hz via usb-c to displayport WHILE streaming on twitch 6k bitrate 1080p LOL! Not a power hungry game but i find it funny i said this a month ago just wanted to update that
I am worried about the reviews regarding the thermals,i might use it for casual gaming, once a while, mostly for programming and video editing, will it still need a cooling pad?
Ngl the design of this one looks really good, but as I kept watching, all the other things kinda made me not want it anymore.. I mean I can’t afford it anyway 😂
Thank you for your review. Just wanna know, Can it automatic turned off the light on the switch on (fingerprint scan) when i gonna watch movie like with Netflix or RU-vid or sleep mode because some of gaming that my friend using cannot turn it off. (such as if the keyboard rgb light turn off for sleep mode or watching mover, it also turn off) 😌 Thanks
