I used to work at goodwill. The stuff they threw in the trash compactor shocked me. When someone donated and the stuff would be in a bag or box we were told to look through a couple of the stuff on top and if it looked bad throw it all away. We were told to go through it fast. I was being told all the time I looked at the stuff too long. Throw it away. We took big rolling carts full of stuff and threw in the compactor. I love old vintage stuff. Clothes, figurines, kitchen ware etc...I always tried to price it and put out. I had others go behind me and trash it. Frustrated me so bad. Everyone has different tastes. They priced stuff with different color stickers. They rotated colors every week. On sundays we would go in 3 hours before the store opened and pull and throw all the stuff on the shelfs that the color had rotated out. No matter what it was it was put in the compactor. We couldnt reprice at a lower price. I would ask why we couldnt mark down or put on a sale table. No. In the compactor. Employees werent allowed to shop on the days they worked. Even if we had the day off but had to come in for a meeting we werent allowed to come back to shop. They had mentally and physically disabled employees that they supposedly 'job trained'. The whole purpose of Goodwill in the first place. They paid them maybe a dollar an hour. People complain about china and children and others working for low wages. Goodwill is just as bad. Upper management didnt treat the disabled people good either. I spoke many times. Lol I live a couple blocks from goodwill. I go in there about once a month. Never find very much. Prices are ridiculous. $1.25 dollar tree items for $2+. I heard they are getting rid of bags. You have to start bringing your own. When I worked there a guy came in needing an outfit for a job interview. They wouldnt help him. The CEOS and upper management make lots of money. Employees dont. They used to send jewelry out to corporate to be sold online. People liked buying the jewelry in the store. Now they sell new cheap jewelry. They have alot of new things they sell now that is way overpriced. Yes it is greed. I know alot of people have stopped donating good stuff to them. They mostly donate junk they just want to get rid of. Dont cost them to take to the dump. They donate their good stuff to salvation army, benevolent society or a nonprofit thrift store we have here. Just a few things I know from working there. I love watching you. Keep picking. 😊

I've been saying that about Goodwill for years. They hire disabled people so they can use legal loopholes to pay them like $2 or less an hour, on top of getting 100% of their inventory for free....yet people still defend them

You verified what we suspected: they don’t pay their employees, especially the disabled ones they’re supposed to help. A reckoning is long overdue. They should at least lose their charity status. We urge everyone to not give anything to them. There are so many other local charities that do wonderful things.

My wife is a nurse and used to work at a nursing home. Some of the folks there were wards of the state and all they had to wear were just a few old pieces of clothing that looked awful. My wife being the saint she is asked if I would go to goodwill with her and ask if they had any clothes to donate to the folks. "We don't do that here" Is the exact response we got. We drove down the street to St. Vincent De paul and they gave us 2 or 3 huge Garbage bags to fill up for them. Goodwill is worried about Goodwill.

Good morning, Kevin, I agree with you on the Goodwill Issue. It seems like they are not stocking their stores or if they do it's just junk. I believe since they started selling online that they are saving all the "good" stuff for online selling. Our local Goodwill is 45 min away from us and is a disappointment when we visit. Never fear garage season is almost here and that's where the "good" stuff is. Have a happy day to you and your family and kiss all your fur babies from me from the UP of Michigan🐶🐱

I have become a Goodwill bins shopper. The majority of my items come from the bins. I do hit estate sales and some smaller thrift stores, but most of the Goodwill thrift stores are overpriced, so I find great stuff at the bins. Sometimes the price tag is still on the items and I see the high price and realize that is why it ended up at the bins.

I absolutely can’t stand Goodwill. They are not in business to help people in need. They are extremely greedy. I am in the East Texas area and they are outrageous on everything example $5-7 for cap and plush.. then when it don’t sell, they ship it off to bin store which they practically give it away. I’m in my first year of selling on eBay so I still have tons to learn. Love watching all your videos. Thanks for sharing… “I Dream of Genie” would be extremely helpful.

I agree with you. Yes, items priced above some retail prices. Item would sit on the shelves for week and weeks. Goodwill has lost their way. I know many people that will not donate to them and will not shop their retail stores. Also, some time ago, my sister and I went because it was near and wanted to donate/clean out her truck before heading out of town. We pulled up out back right as they were opening and they were throwing boxes of goods in the dumpster. Many, many boxes of goods.😮 The man taking our donations was rude, disrespectful and arrogant. Never did get a thank you. It is sad what they have become. Again, they have lost their way.☹️☹️☹️

All a corporation has to do in order to file as a 501c3 non profit is to offer a benefit to the area…example would be if I owned a scrap yard but once a month accepted ewaste for free on one morning a month…I’m now considered a nonprofit and receive the tax benefit/exemption status of a nonprofit…so they’re “hiring” people just out of rehab or prison but they fail to mention they only pay them $2-$3/hour instead of minimum wage which is more insulting and drives people back into whatever causes them to get into trouble to begin with

New to your channel because the topic caught my eye immediately. I am not a reseller. I’m just someone on a strict budget who USED to go to GW and find essentials and decor at wonderful prices. Here in Eastern Washington I see the same group of people every single time I go , practically attacking the employees as they roll out the fresh carts. I no longer donate to GW and have chosen smaller non profit thrifts to donate to. I guess all good things must come to an end… not only for plain old shoppers like me but for resellers as well.

Our Grand Rapids Michigan Goodwills have raised their prices significantly. I did ask an employee why this has happened and they told me that they are paying their employees more. Right now they are charging $6.99 for a used woman’s sleeveless shirt! Their hard goods are a minimum of $2.99 and up, even if it still has a price tag for less from Targets dollar spot. I don’t buy very much anymore from them. I think eventually they’ll have to close stores if they don’t change things.

1st they started the online auctions removing the chance of finding a "hidden treasure" then they contine to jack the prices up, they have removed dressing rooms. Our local district got rid of the 10% senior discount. Jan 31 they stopped a rewards program saying they were changing to different model of rewards, almost 1/2 way through March & no new program replacement(I don't expect one).

I've shopped at thrift stores for personal use items like books, music, or even tools. After shows like pawn stars, storage wars and pickers aired I noticed more people shopping there. Now with internet resalers, and inflation I don't seem to find many good deals anymore, and I see a lot more people shopping there. Another thing pointed out to me was that they have a bottom base price, and yes, I have seen .99c store and dollar tree items there for $3.99. I still stop by after work sometimes to kill time, vs waiting on the road in traffic. I guess some deals can still be found, depending on what you're shopping for.

Before I even watch this total video, my opinion is that us resellers have caused GW to raise prices. They watch the videos of all the resellers that brag about getting something at GW and making a fortune on it. Of course that is going to make them raise prices and continue to do so. I heard their own staff talking about it years ago before RU-vid was such a big thing.

First time viewing your channel… I do not shop at Goodwill at all anymore. I live in Southern California in the San Gabriel Valley. We have one local store but over the years their prices have increased so much that I decided to stop purchasing from them. I haven’t been to a Goodwill store in probably 4-5 years. Since 2024. That Good Will has Jacked up their prices so high its stupid. Items that used to be $2.99 are now $19.99 24.99 & 29.99....for small glassware. These items are donated, free to Good Will. I own a bible based resale shop in our community where everything is donated. We are all volunteers, even me, when it comes to our time. We give non profits in our community anything they need from our store and monetary help. Our highest priced item is coats for 5.00. We have several resalers who come to our store and being a resaler myself, I understand the need to get things cheap. We keep our prices to where they can make money also. All most everyone who has donated has stated they will not donate to Goodwill due to the prices and no one sees how they help our community. Our nearest one is 20 miles away and there is never anything on their shelves and is so over priced. My son worked at this one as a manager not too long ago. He bought a pair of shoes after work, off the clock, they found out he sold them on ebay and they fired him over it. It was against their policy to resale items the staff bought! Really! Please people give to your local thrift stores. Most of them help your community, not the big boy's pocket.

The donation area is piled high but the shelves are sparse with more and more area being dedicated to dollar store type items. I don’t want dollar store stuff. Just a reminder that they often pay some of their employees sub-minimum wage (sometimes a fraction of minimum), or are even paid by the government to employ people. They are allowed to do this in the guise of "job training", something I am normally bullish on, but Goodwill not only is overpriced but they also compete against resellers on eBay.

Thrift stores have a mean-spirited attitude towards resellers. They know a lot of them buy stuff to flip for a profit but that doesn't mean the stores should hold back the good stuff to sell on Ebay. I'm sure if they put better stock on the shelves many resellers would be willing to pay something akin to online prices, or at least a price that's a fair in-between compromise. They're also doing their regular customers a disservice by selling low-quality items so i'm not surprised they're so quiet these days. I genuinely believe if they just put it all out there they'll attract more customers & make more money in the long run.

I was never a reseller, but I used to enjoy going to thrift stores for doodads and electronic stuff to play around with. Prices at Goodwill are more or less retail at this point. I've seen used clothing that was priced more than new retail.

We made a very respectful salary last year sourcing almost exclusively from the Goodwill & their bins. However, ours do not have a lot of hard goods or sneakers so we sell clothes almost exclusively. Our garage sales are not really worth our time here in NC.

There’s a good chance that a lot of what you used to see - CDs, video games, VHS etc. - goes to the auction warehouses. Goodwill has their auction site PLUS many locations sell on eBay. If you search sellers for Goodwill you’ll find at least 50 eBay stores. They cut out the middle man 😔.

I dream of Jeannie used to be one of my favorite shows! I think it has become the goodwill dessert. We used to have a Palaise Royal (BEALLS) next door to our local goodwill (Conroe , TX.) once the P.R. went out of business, I found that G.W. Bought the merch from P.R. Like US POLO Assn. socks and shirts and are selling that ! Plus it’s like the local dollar store items in the G. W. Lately, I believe the employees scan the items and send anything good to goodwill online. It’s all dried up 😢

Our Goodwill stores in my part of the country (South Central Kentucky) still have a lot of good quality items. It's beneficial for me to get nice name brand clothing there, and occasional household stuff. I don't think one would make much as a reseller with the prices now. The problem is, most of the other thrift stores seem to use Goodwill as their model or something.

My goodwill now sells books, even kids books for 3.50, which is nuts to me. Same price for dvds. Nothing ever comes off of those shelves. They do underprice board games even old ones, so i stick to that section typically

I do most of my sourcing at thrift stores because I currently don't have my license and finding people to go garage saling can be difficult and while I have found good things at my Goodwill in the past, I have noticed recently that they no longer sell any video games. Even the ones you expect to stay on the shelf forever like sports games are no longer on the sales floor

I Dream Of Genie!!! My Goodwills in the triad of NC aren't that great. I can't find much at all anymore. I'm here in WA (on an Island) and have to drive 45 min to an hour and can get to 2 really good ones. One of the 2 just opened last month. I have found some items that they have missed that will bring me good $. I'm here til mid June and have a lot more to seek out. I love going to new places. A lot of items I find here I wouldn't find at home. New territory, new items!!!

You'd think Goodwill would lower their prices so they could move their merchandise and make money instead of it sitting in the store and taking up space. Even I have a rule that if I don't wear something for over a year, I get rid of it. They wouldn't be going under if they'd figure out that lowering prices and having blue light specials would bring more people in. Someone needs to get in there and make an executive decision to get the old stock sold and make room for new.

Also, our smalltown goodwill doesnt accept returns, bags and boxes up items and wont sell them if you look inside, and then asks us to round up. Hah! Books are 3-5 dollars.... boy! And the grumpiest of all employees. Id be grumpy too if I was demanding so much of my customers. Nothing has a set price... everything is priced individually - trying to squeeze out every penny out every item. They also dont let you test electronics.

My local goodwills are terrible. Anything worth getting is so expensive anymore. Luckily I live 45 minutes from a killer Goodwill location that is worth the drive every time I go. The difference is that this spot is huge and deals with volume. Because of that, they keep their prices very reasonable and it’s not to hard to find some gems, even with the big crowds that shop there. I hope more locations follow their example.

I go to goodwills in my area for one thing only now and that is glassware and dishes. They are still 99 cents and I can find great china dishes and serving pieces and glassware that I can sell for a good profit. That’s it. Sometimes if I am lucky baseball caps on the new carts that just came out. They’re still 99 cents. I buy a lot at yard sales during the summer and process during my winter months. It’s like going to yard sales when I pull out my bags during the winter months. Goodwill is ridiculously expensive now and not a good place to source from. What a shame.

I recently found myself near a Goodwill and went in wondering if anything had changed. Most of the hard goods had some kind of damage yet they were still overpriced. I managed to find a couple of items...one hidden gem that's already sold and made myself a decent profit but I won't likely go back...not anytime soon. I dug around for at lease an hour and it's really just not worth it. I refuse to donate to them. I donate to charities I know are doing good for the community.

locations vary, that being said the morale is changing and its jacked up. Get items for FREE, search the items up and price them for their going rates with no guarantee on condition or functionality and zero obligation to return the product, they've also stopped giving their customers bags (BIGGEST MISTAKE as i now make more cautious purchases along the lines of what i can carry out without a cart.) and expect us to pay $1 per reusable bag (which im sure they profit on that $1) and today they had the audacity to stop and call a manager on me because the wii fit board price was $2.99 A WII FIT BOARD the lady said its not right the manager comes over and says "oh no we checked they don't sell for much" DUH! its a joke i only still go because theres ALWAYS room for potential profits they cant accurately price everything

Goodwill is a joke anymore in our area. We used to go there all the time. As soon as they opened a Goodwill Botique, (A separate store where they send all the high value items to sell) they cranked up the prices at their main store too. East Texas Goodwills have somehow managed to have absolutely nothing, and still have no parking spots🤷‍♂️ They want 4.99 for 2007 Lady Hawks HotDog Cookoff shirts, 6.99 for basic polos(George from Walmart brand included) and 8.99 for jeans. The toys are bare minimum 2.99 and they have a GE alarm clock covered in dried mucous and decades of dust for 19.99….the alarm clock is the ONLY thing on the once full of VcRs and tape decks electronic shelves, aside from the 6-8 square Dell monitors fromfrom 2002 that have been there for 5 years from an office closing “CoMPuteR WoRks” 😂😂👎🏻

The Goodwills by me have really gone downhill in the last few years. I resell clothes & shoes - I used to be able to find a cart full. Now I leave with 3 or 4 good items. I rarely find decent/worth reselling shoes anymore. I have seen the back rooms full (when they bring out a new rack I get a quick glimpse). I’m not sure where this stuff is going but not onto the sales floor area. I’ve changed my game plan since Goodwill probably won’t change. I am focusing in on other types of thrift stores- Salvation Army, Amvets, Savers. Thanks for the great video!

More resellers need to let goodwill know how their prices are disgusting. I stopped going 2 years ago. I have found even the smaller local thrifts are pricing stuff super high too. When they get dog crates, they need to donate those to local pet shelters, instead they are so greedy to get that money for it.

It’s the same in the UK Kevin, with the odd independent charity shop as the exception but alas the majority’s prices have become ridiculously expensive and subsequently the foot fall in them has greatly diminished 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️ Yard sales are the best outlet, that said most people are a little more educated as to items genuine worth, however if they are reasonable people they’ll usually work with you leaving a good amount of meat on the bone for you whilst still making a profit!!! I concur with your observation 100%, they’re deffo on the decline and I’m sure manufacturing their own demise!!!

Goodwills in Lexington, KY still have a few things to source, but the price points are ridiculous and it’s a bit scammy what is being done with the color of the week. Better shoes & boots start at 7.99 and go up from there. Not unusual to see cowboy boots for $25-50. Hard goods are not great. The color of the week changes on Mondays; 1/2 price M-Sat, $1 on Sun. On Tuesdays, associates pull that color to “make room for newer merchandise.” The stores are jam packed with merchandise, but significantly less is being sold. I thought the idea was to sell it. Then, at the register, I’m always asked is I’d like to round up for the Jobs Placement Program. I decline and explain that I’ve already rounded up with their higher price points! Can’t wait for yard sale season to roll around!

I was saying this a while back that the bigger stores are pricing themselves into early graves .. especially since they are pricing stuff so high that it's cheaper to buy the items anywheres else or even at times on Ebay with the shipping added in, I've started going to many Salvation Army thrift stores and Value Village stores (Savers in the US) a lot lately because they are not worth going to much more anymore because their prices are cheaper elsewhere and anything there that is cheap I can get cheaper elsewhere or I don't buy as much anymore. I now go to the smaller thrift stores and smaller church run ones because they price much better .. sometimes ridiculously low too. Now is the time for people to stuff from thrift stores but at prices that are fair and decent or very low.

At our only one GW is priced as high as they can get away with. I asked them one day I happened to traipse in, when is senior discount day here. I was told Wednesdays. I was like "great". What's the discount and the cashier told me 15%!! I think our Savers is better priced and their senior discount day is Tuesdays and it's 30%. I have just been sticking to online sourcing but the shipping costs are getting out of hand also.
