In this video I show the small but very important details in Mauler's chassis. It's not the most exciting thing in the world, but it shows some of the design that has to take place when building something like this.
I now have a merch store, I just started it so it's a work in progress But I'm working on getting some fun stuff in there for sale.

There are lots of fabricating how to vids on RU-vid but IMO yours have been the most helpful and easiest to relate to for ppl like myself working with limited tools and budgets and workspace . Thanks for all the content. Btw do you do fabrication for your day job? Where did you learn everything?

Thanks for the kind words, glad you like the videos. For about ten years when I was young I worked in a metal shop where we worked on HVAC equipment. I learned most of my welding/metalwork there. The chassis design and general off road specific stuff just came from years of racing off-road RC cars, and just a general interest in off-road in general.

Just gotta say that the first five minutes really shows the “home garage” style that most of us know. I’ve been watching your channel for sometime now you really speak to the “home garage” craftsmanship you can achieve. As always a great video and keep on doing that thing you do!

Thanks, I know my garage has grown, but I always hope people still see it as a "home garage" style channel. ✌

Hey man, WOW you've certainly been busy. Talking about pedal boxes I'm trying to put an aftermarket one in my 63 bug. I'm going to move the pedals back so that the seat can get pushed back. All this because my legs are too short in the middle. 😢 Anyway you've come a long way . The steering should be an interesting video. Thanks for sharing ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia.

Hello Kevin! My seat is pushed back a couple inches too. The original bug is really pretty tight, so pushing things back some makes it more comfortable.

I’m medically retiring from the Army in 2 months and I’ve decided to chase my dream job which is building Pre-runners. My first step is going to a fabrication school, but I’m unsure of where I should go from there? Suspension geometry and chassis design really interests me so that’s what I’d like to spend most of my time doing. Any tips on getting into this line of work? Awesome channel btw.

I think the best thing you could do is get employed at a local fabrication shop to get started. Also if possible try to do some fab work on the side if you can. Then maybe get out to a large scale fab shop and see if you can work there too.

Greetings Mike! Nice trick of the trade for center punching the aluminum floor board plate. That trick really save time. I would use a Unibit drill bit if its available to save time of chucking and unchucking different size of drill bits to enlarge the holes. It also makes a nice round holes. Nice roll cage. Is the design is derived from a certified racing roll cage design? The weather is going to be nice soon for off-roading. If would be nice to see one of the buggy ready for action. Thanks for sharing.

I love using unibits and I usually do. But with these countersunk holes there really is no room for the holes not being right on point. That's why I upsized the holes so slowly. I find the holes to be most accurate when I do that, but in normal situations I would use the unibit. 👍 This chassis is a custom build and it follows no sanctioned rules of any kind. In hindsight I wish I maybe paid a little more attention to that. I think I would have some issues trying to get into some races because of that. Agree with you on the weather, I think I'll be getting Wratchet out here soon to stretch his legs. 😁

I hope you do, it's really satisfying. ✌ Just keep making progress and you'll get there.
