There's a few ways to improve the thermals. The fan next to the GPU could be used as exhaust, and the L9i cooler could use some fresher air with their duct or a thicker fan. I think it supports 59mm, so if you can find a CPU cooler with 120mm, temps (not only CPU) would be dramatically improved :)

I like these kinds of experiments. It shows the real advances in chip design, since you can do *more* with less, and it seems to be a general win for efficiency if you know what knobs to turn.

Noctua sells a foam spacer kit for the NH-L9i called NA-FD1. This bridges the gap between a top-down cooler and the case panel, preventing the cooler from ingesting hot air. Not that you'll see much performance difference but it might run a few degrees cooler.

Get the case SFF Time N-ATX and put an AIO in it and retest it. Its a little bigger volume wise and basically the same footprint. Also, undervolt the CPU like some of the other commenters have said. I think you can get exactly what you want without having a chungus tower footprint. The SFF time | MNLT case build would be cool to see for an ITX build too.

Thanks for this video. I have a brand new NZXT H1 v2 sitting under the christmas tree, I'm now convinced that getting a 13900k or 7950x won't be a waste, especially since those chips are specifically designed to run hot under load regardless of whatever cooler you have. At least the NZXT H1 is water cooled so it shouldn't be too bad.

Zooming to that blurry mess was a very wise move. But tell me, please, how can a channel dedicated specifically to PC tech be so incompitent in this test? All you needed to look at was the CPU/GPU load. And I'm pretty much sure that the both CPUs was overkill for the GPU. You have compered nothing. Your numbers are indicative of that. You've only shown the worst choice of a case for a rather expensive set up.
@TimLongson
@TimLongson Год назад
Why not try undervolting the cpu? Dramatically reduce heat whilst also reducing power usage, & higher performance than the thermally throttled full power. Having said that, I think the once "fashionable idea" of small form factor cases is over, RIP. The RTX4090 & 13900K generation, going into 2023, has made FULL/super size cases, with full custom water loops, not only fashionable, but just plain common sense - if you are paying insanely high prices for insanely powerful hardware, you would have to be more than insane to sacrifice that power to thermal throttling! Full tower, full custom water loop (two 420mm radiators or more for CPU & GPU & M.2 PCIe gen5 SSD water blocks) & a decent PSU (1500W+) for FULL hardware constant max boosting few! Performance over saving a few inches of air space every day!

Its nice, but an 13900k costs twice as much as a PS4. Yes, It's a beautiful system. But the lads who are getting PS4's sure aren't the lads who can afford anything better than an I-3. That's why Consoles will never really die out. I mean here in America 12.5% of the population still relies on food stamps. It's really hard to beat last gen consoles when it comes to price to performance.
