@@fortheloveofnoise apart from people losing their jobs, falling in to poverty, losing their homes, and no more products on the market, sure, no harm done!
Just got mine today. I was afraid it was gonna be too menu divy. Naaahh, it doesn't even feel like you're menu diving. Everything is quickly accessible, easy to tweak, intuitive and at a reach. The only thing I needed the manual for was how to save a preset. I got to say, I am heavily impressed. Got it, unboxed, pluged into my phone charger, grabbed my headphones, powered it on, got on my couch making patches and tweaking everything. I truly got lost and forgot something else than me and the synth existed. I got to say, when I finally noticed the cats... their expressions have let me know that they've been hungry for hours waiting for me to notice them. I'm alive but damn fun micro synth tbh. Good job Berhinger! P.S. No cat was harmed during this review. The human has some scratches. The cats weren't truly hungry, had all the food they want, but they wanted that other flavour.
Plus (and this may be just my cat as he’s very old) It is less sit-able on being so tiny My cat always finds my Korg M1 or mixing desk most comfortable😼 😡😝
I love how the keys are arranged. You get an octave PLUS a scale tone lower and higher. That way you can resolved to the root from the subdominant and from the second scale degree. If it was c to c that would imply starting and endinh at the lowest or highest note for C major key melodies. This small change opens things up so much.
@@dankauffmanmusic via USB through a computer most likely. I doubt that little thing can be a USB host, and both it and the keyboard had to be powered via the USB as well. There’s likely a laptop off screen.
WHERE IS THAT SUPERSAW????? Man I waited for this but well the main feature of the JP8000 is not there…or did the marketing team go too full on 80s to program some real 90s/00s Trance patches??? Much respect, Tobi
From what I saw it seems like it does have supersaw but not the metal osc. But I don't know how you adjust the supersaw parameters, so I'm waiting for a review.
I love that crunchy DAC. If a knobby version of this comes out, I'm so there. Stick it in the same form factor as the Pro One and Neutron, and I'll love you forever.
I preordered one of these back in April. I am so excited for this. I love these smaller synths. I love that it can be powered by a phone or battery pack and take it anywhere to jam on it. Sounds good.
Cute little thing. Kinda hoping there will be a more fully featured module version with a nice knbby interface and at least 8 voices though :) Not sure if it sounds particularly like JP-8000 though.. it almost sounds too good and fat, and kinda seems to miss that plasticy gloss which every JP 8000 sound has.
Just commented the same👍👌☺️👍 it seem's making too small toys is not our fist concerns, but playing music with lot of them if the sound is good, so mounting it in our setup, as we have no place on a desk to place it. As I said, it would be interesting to see what version will have the best success on the market .
I think it's missing the hp filter per voice - which lowers the aliasing on the original and gives it that big plastic sound - along with the chorus and delay.
Originally the JP8000 was used as a Trance and Techno synth. I think What Behringer have done here has reprogramed the same engine with vintage patches.
@@rijksvoorlichtingsdienst4427 yeah its like a really dry jp8000 muckoff without chorus, eq, delay, the original digital filter charcter and the crazy fast clicky envelopes :) All of these are the real soul of the original jp8000/8080.
@@DarrenSangita except that means it is unusable without a computer as far as control goes. if it at least has a trs midi you could use it as a standalone
Transposed a stenography keyboard onto an NKRO keyboard, and then placed piano on top of that. I've got 4 fully functional scales in 30 keys. Been looking for an affordable synth. This appears to be the one. Thanks for a great review.
@behringer. Guys can we please have a real (eurorack) size or desktop version version as well. It’s all very cute but it’s only fun for a few minutes then all the limitations sink in when trying to do real work on it. Things like carrying twenty things and adapters and power strips and bla bal. The sound is amazing, thank you for the design but can we please have a professional version of each of these?
Yes. Not enough people are talking about it. I think few people know what a DAC is let alone what it does. The end result should always be analogue, as speakers are analogue and so are our ears.
@@Answersonapostcard without the analogue signal, we wouldn't be able to hear it to begin with, speakers can _only_ take analogue So what's the deal with the 12-bit DAC?
@@Answersonapostcard So, without an analogue signal, we wouldn't be able to hear it to begin with, every digital synth has a DAC because speakers and headphones _only_ take an analogue signal. Digital doesn't work, and when speakers do take a digital signal, then they have their own (often lo-fi) DAC so they can produce sound because speakers _only_ take analogue. Is this "12-bit DAC" just some marketing junk like Sony with their "1-bit DACs" in their Discman CD players?
You can't have everything they say. Line-in for filtering delight would make it truly full-fledged 😊 Can't refuse the portable factor and my love for mini gear ❤❤
So I presume the power input/midi combo if it's connected by midi to another device that will give it power also? Because otherwise how do you get the power if its midi connected to another device
My JP had the glue keys issue so I sold it, if this can do the super saw well, I will pick one up. My recommendation for an easy synth for Behringer to make that would be a hit would be a Prodigy.
Cool start off synth or companion to a sampler like an mpc live/one or SP404 etc. Other than that its not doing anything other synths cant if you already own some. But for synths in that price range and size it.... SUPER DOPE
Come on guys, you are costing me a fortune with all this new Mini/Micro Tech you are bringing out. Things like this are a dream to the many people with little room and is a great way to get that big synth sound on a budget.
Ahh, another Behringer video to bring back the memory of you guys wanting to charge me for a power adapter when you sent out a synth with the wrong one for my region in it. Fun times.
All I can say is: it'd better come with a wrist-strap PS: I still think it'd be logical to do eurorack voice module versions of all these mini and nano sized palmtop synths
Eurorack versions are a no brainer. The only issue is what do you make CV controllable and how much more engineering will that take? I’d love to see it though.
Hello, First of all, and as i already said previously about the pro vs mini, It sounds really good for me. But although i was very enthusiast at first glance one year ago, i am not sure now to pull the trigger on them considering my specific needs (dawless setup) : - no built-in power source, - no din or trs midi for the jt-4000, - limited or inexistent built-in sequencer. I totally understand certain limitations (no built-in battery for instance) chosen to keep the costs as low as possible and/or for environnemental concerns. But as small devices with a form factor ideal to be carried everywhere, the ability to be truly self-contained without the need for other accesories (powerbank, usb midi host, sequencer...) is a great advantage. I own already several behringer products, so i am not against you. I don't know how much the "dawless" hobbyists like me "weight" in the musical market, but from my experience there is a real need for compact and affordable tools like external sequencers, usb midi host, compact mixers... i don't know if you are planning products in these fields but they could be game changers ! I now wait for the hirotribe ; can't wait !
I agree. Here it is 86% the price of the Pro VS mini, too.. which has way more controls and MIDI that doesn't rely on USB. I'm sure this ultra tiny form factor was originally supposed to come in around half the price of the larger (small) format. Not even 3.5mm TRS MIDI onboard is a bit of a killer
i already love this but please bring a pick-up function so that sound jumps can be avoided when you want to control the different parameters with the same buttons. that would be great, thanks ;)
Is it possible to connect the JT4000 directly to an USB keyboard ? In this video it looks like that, but both USB cables end somewhere outside the frame. . .
does it have the gritty delay w/ feedback? can't have a JP-8000/8080 without the internal delay. it's an integral part of many of the sounds. It's also not exactly easy to replicate w/ external hardware/software even though it's a simple delay.
Seems like no supersaw either so all in all not really a replica if this is the case, just more analog 80s synth which is ok but it aint a 90s synth then. Btw, it was a VA synth so not sure why this here is analog?
The problem with USB is you have to connect a USB device to a USB host, while with standard DIN or TRS midi you can connect device to device. So unless your midi controller can be a USB host and provide power, you’d need a 3rd device (computer or other USB host device) to connect a controller to the synth. They managed to fit a DIN MIDI port on the Pro VS, but no room for even a TRS port on this one?
Hello and thank you for the explanations. I have a problem with my usb midi keyboard. How do you power the keyboard and drive the small synthesizer via midi mini jac at the same time sltp? Do you use a usb midi host or something like that ?
I refuse to buy a synth if it's bigger than my teaspoon!! Luckily this one passes that test and so it shall be mine 😂. Very cool sound too so I'll be even happier
