Great video James! 116kg runner here (47 years old, 183cm) and it's nice to find content tailored towards heavier runners. I found that 4-5 days a week was too much and I felt exhausted and sore. 3 days a week with 2-3 strength workouts and mobility most days keeps my body in shape and mostly pain free.

great comment. im 116kg too and have now implemented this structure. I learnt this the hard way after running 5 days a week and developing mild patella tendonitis

To piggyback off of your comments about reducing frequency, something I've done in the past is to use a 10-day cycle instead of 7, or even a 2-week cycle. It gives me a chance to get an extra day or two of recovery per cycle without having to add too many miles per session. It's pretty much the same as your suggestion, but psychologically (and maybe logistically) it seems to be helpful.

That 10 cycle is golden. I pairs well with a strength cycle in tandem with it. 7 days is kind of Arbitrary.

Really great advice, James. I'm 90kg so, while not 120kg, I still have to factor in pretty much everything you've mentioned here. Zone 2 on the bike and targeted physio work on my calf and quad muscles (and a sprinkling of yoga) have probably helped the most. Your videos are helping a lot - keep up the great work!

Thanks for that I’m pretty much bang on that weight and maybe backing off a bit will be helpful I’m currently doing 2 full body weight sessions a week too 😳

Great video! As a heavy runner (after few years of break, I started at 130kg in August, currently 106kg), I would also add that heavy runners should consider retiring shoes much sooner if they can afford it. I notice significant drop in midsole ammortisation after 200-250km and if I continue beyond that, I start developing small pains and niggles. I realise it may not be possible for all but it really helped me run mostly pain free for the last few months. As a bonus, heavy runners will enjoy some shoe models more than light ones (especially Adidas Prime X 2 Strung which seem to only come alive if your weight is in triple digits in kg :))

Solar glide which looks like the ultraboost. But I agree I have 4 pairs in rotation to let the shoe decompress

I’m 6’7” and 240 lbs so I really appreciate your videos. Seems like most RU-vid running videos are made by tiny people who don’t inherently understand challenges of bigger runners. Does it make sense to target 170-180 cadence as a taller runner? I’ve been training for many years and can’t get a high cadence while staying in zone 2 heart rate.

You had a video earlier with 7 or 9 knee exercises, maybe the title was 'build strong knees.' Unfortunately, I can't find it; perhaps you have already deleted it? It was very useful to me...

As a tall runner (around 92KG) I cant build up as fast as others. Also I notice I cant get my cadence above ~160 without trickery. Any experience with that?
