Episode 7 of the re-viewing of Travis Beauchamp's amazing documentary on the history of the Melee competitive scene. Shoutout to Samox aka Travis, check out his channel here: / eastpointpictures -- Watch live at / chillindude
M2K's episode is still my favorite. I've seen the documentary like 4 or 5 times and this episode gives me chills every single time. Shoutouts to M2K, the single hardest working man in smash at the time.
I didn't know m2k was doing all the data collection without actionreplay, that makes it way more respectable o.o i mean this would be super easy with that develope-mode where you can just advance frame by frame
That dude had like huge fucking compiled spreadsheets of information about like...frames of people falling and how fast they fell to their death by frame, all done manually by hand, in which he had to set up his own system to make sure it was accurate. He was creative in his problem solving and had an insane level of work ethic for that. I'm not sure how anyone has the patience for that, but M2K clearly was not a normal guy.
Holy crap that skype call ringtone made me freak out and fumble to grab my phone (dropped it once actually), then when I saw it wasnt my phone I was scrambling my eyes all over my desktop to find my Skype icon then realized I'm at work.......... well played.. Also 11:41, Wife's reaction to the Pokemon drawings was the same as everyone in your chat I'm sure. LUL
TheCookieCrusader *high five* Yo! x3 No need to say sorry! I appreciate you taking the time to make that comment. Thanks a ton for watching/supporting my stream. It really means a lot to me!
I went to a brawl tournament at my high school 2 years ago, and I was pretty good at melee, I couldn't do advanced tech and I thought I could destroy everybody, but the first time I played it, It was so fucking slow and gravity was like 3 m/s^2, instead of 9.8 m/s^2 and I got shit on because the game blew major penis.
watching this documentary 2 years later, I now have to bring up m2k's UGC losers run not too long ago, beating Mango, Leffen (no surprise here), HBox, and taking a set off Armada, while in Loser's. I think it may be the best loser's run now instead of Mango's P7 run
Arguably, that is a weakness; that the improvements from melee to brawl from a "casual" standpoint were relatively non existent aside from the fact that there just were more features. And the engine, the core gameplay from a casual standpoint, was virtually untouched save for some added items if you even used items as a casual. And if you enjoyed high level play from melee, it was inarguably a step down. In short, I agree that brawl wasn't "bad" from a casual standpoint, but I don't think the casual side was improved significantly enough to excuse Nintendo (or sakurai I guess?) for gutting the game of the competitive depth of it's predecessor.
To be fair to brawl, they chose some terrible clips. If you chose clips of scrubs playing melee it would look just as bad, but there is no doubt that at the highest level of play, melee looks much better than brawl.
No you are missing the point, it is not to put down brawl but to show how they reacted to the game and how the felt of it right away, to be honest I didn't feel anything bad with it since I was a scrub (probably I'm still) but now that a little more used to melee speed it feels very different
TeifitV I picked up Brawl and immediately got good. Then I learned all of the tech skill each character could do and sat down. I was not even close to Masha level.
