First heard this song in the car with my dad. This was his all time favorite song, and is now one of mine. He passed away almost 2 months ago just after my 17th birthday. I play this song every time I get in the car just like I know he would. Rest In Peace dad.

He loves you so much brother it’s up too you to follow in the footsteps he left and to make your own use his mistakes as learning lessons he made them so you don’t have to and pray to Jesus believe me when I tell you he was holding your hand and crying with you it’s hard world but god will never turn his back on you

I believe that Billy Corgan didn't really intend for the song to be about anything. I remember him saying that he thought the lyrics were crap and were pretty much just a bunch of one liners stitched together. Still, they're beautiful. So is the song.

I'm a dyed in the wool metal head. I also play music and have since I was 5. I've always been struck by a great harmonic. My best friend since childhood, when this came out, said "listen to this, you'll love it!". He was right. I loved it. Unfortunately he took his life not even a month after we had this discussion, which was in August of that year. I've heard this song 5 times last month. I cried every time. Much like I am now. Suicide fucking sucks.

Having moved a bunch and changed schools will serve you well when you're older and can easily make new friends and others enjoy your presence... because you've been exposed to more people and had to make efforts to make friends, as opposed to those who stay in the same town forever. Strong roots are great, and moving is hard, but your character won't suffer.

I'll never forget cruising around, listening to Smashing Pumpkins, and specially when all of us slept in a mall together a couple times because we worked there lol Fun times. I was broke as hell, but money didn't matter, only our friendship. I too wonder if they ever look back and miss what we once had.

i remember being stoned for the first time in school. i must have drained an entire bottle of visine in my eyeballs. played this in my headphones during lunch. at some point i realized i had left school and was walking on the highway. that was when i first realized you could be fucked up and almost die. wasnt the last. its a dream to be alive at that age. you dont realize how beautiful you are-you just think of your acne and your clumsiness and the sheer inexperience of your life. but i think of my friends who didnt make it. i will forever miss all my friends who i moved away from who took their lives. i wish i could have been there for that one moment you think you can help that person. but i dont think it works like that. this song is beautiful to me, it shimmers so loud. it also puts me exactly at the place of empathy- i never thought this song sang my life but i knew it sang it for someone who was really struggling. i dont know why but thats how it felt in the 90s. like i was so angry and sad but also ambitious to be alive. i knew some of my friends who were bullied and ignored and beat up for being gay or punk or just for being weird-i knew they werent gonna make it. we related on the first two things but not the third. i refuse to count how many people ive lost to suicide. but its a lot. i dont curse them. i think about them and i miss them and i love them and i play music for them. i make paintings for some of them. its constantly on my mind. the things i thought i left in high school continue and we all know people who have killed themselves. what else can we do but remember. theyre gone but youve got to keep a memory to move forward. the irony of life is that it is sometimes horrible and full of disappointment and horror. life can be boring and we all wait in stupid lines and deal with stupid people. but it is also full of wonder and friendship and unbelievable beauty and music and sunshine and romance and love and amazing ridiculous luck. it will all fade, but i believe its worth it to see it and feel it and even the loss is worth it. even the dying light is worth it. and you sometimes remember the laughter hours & days & years later. its worth it for that in the end.

I've been an enormous Smashing Pumpkins fan for over 20 years, but for some weird reason I didn't really start loving the song Mayonaise until recently. It makes no sense to me either. Maybe the lyrics mean more to me now that I'm in my 30s & have gone through so much more problems & pain than in my teens? Regardless, Mayonaise isn't just one of my favorite Pumpkins songs, it's one of my favorite songs in general (although there are quite a few Pumpkins songs in my top 100 list). You can tell by listening to this and many of their other songs that Corgan and company have gone through some real shit & felt true pain, as opposed to some of the crap that's come out more recently where the worst things that happen are some asshole's gf leaves him for another dude or some other artist's parents are just horrible people for buying them a Toyota instead of a BMW. Sorry, but I'd rather listen to music where both the lyrics & the melodies speak to my mind and soul as opposed to making me feel like I just lost 20 IQ points whenever I'm forced to hear it. I wish I didn't feel forced to listen to music that came out when I was in middle or high school just to feel like my brain isn't dying from the stupidity of more recent music. Oh, and totally off subject from the song and band, but the Han Solo 'solo' graphic was absolutely awesome. I've never seen anything cooler on a lyrics video to mark the location of the solo before & I don't think I ever will. I enjoyed this video a lot but having Han Solo ther gave it an extra 5 stars.

You weren't ever there except for the first 3 years of my life. You passed on after 20 years and now I'm lost. I hated you but you were the one i wanted to love the most.

Don’t blame yourself people drift away. Let go because when you’re playing a tug of war and you let go it’s the other person who falls. Love yourself

Glad I found a version without the comments turned off. And the whole comment section absolutely passes the vibe check 💯 I'm just over here wondering why the other vids had the comments disabled? 🤔🤷‍♂️

[Verse 1] Fool enough to almost be it Cool enough to not quite see it Doomed Pick your pocket, full of sorrow And run away with me tomorrow June [Bridge 1] We'll try and ease the pain But somehow, we'll feel the same Well, no one knows Where our secrets go [Verse 2] I send a heart to all my dearies When your life is so, so dreary Dream I'm rumored to the straight and narrow While the harlots of my perils Scream [Chorus 1] And I fail But when I can, I will Try to understand That when I can, I will [Guitar Solo] [Verse 3] Mother, weep the years I'm missing All our time can't be given Back Shut my mouth and strike the demons That cursed you and your reasons Out of hand and out of season Out of love and out of feeling [Chorus 2] So bad When I can, I will Words defy the plans When I can, I will [Bridge 2] Fool enough to almost be it And cool enough to not quite see it Dull enough to always feel this Always old, I'll always feel this No more promise, no more sorrow No longer will I follow Can anybody hear me? I just want to be me [Chorus 3] And when I can, I will Try to understand That when I can, I will

In the mid 90s I joined the US Navy and went to submarines. My first few patrols were hell, missing home, my girl, friends and family, learning to be on my own and be a man. I would lay in my rack and just crank Pumpkins on my CD player (yes I'm old) and drown it all out, kept me sane.. Rock on..
