This song is the theme song of me and my girlfriend. Remember listening to this song in casette tape over the phone. Now she is my wife, and now listening to it together with our two kids.
That makes me happy to hear Don. I'm 37 now and have a 12yr old daughter and she loves all the music I love too(for the most part lol). I was 12 or so when I first got the Siamese Dream tape cassette. It was my favorite thing I had ever heard at that time and is still my favorite album. Good luck to you and your family.
Fool enough to almost be it Cool enough to not quite see it Doomed Pick your pockets full of sorrow And run away with me tomorrow June We'll try and ease the pain But somehow we'll feel the same Well, no one knows Where our secrets go I send a heart to all my dearies When your life is so, so dreary Dream I'm rumored to the straight and narrow While the harlots of my perils Scream And I fail But when I can, I will Try to understand That when I can, I will Mother weep the years I'm missing All our time can't be given Back Shut my mouth and strike the demons That cursed you and your reasons Out of hand and out of season Out of love and out of feeling So bad When I can, I will Words defy the plan When I can, I will Fool enough to almost be it And cool enough to not quite see it And old enough to always feel this Always old, I'll always feel this No more promise no more sorrow No longer will I follow Can anybody hear me I just want to be me When I can, I will Try to understand That when I can, I will
Siamese Dream is one of the finest examples of 90s rock. I love this album so much, it’s easily one of the best albums to come out that decade. If you like the way his voice sounds and the way he kind of breathes out the words, listen to Soma from this album. It’s brilliant.
Yeah, Siamese dream was epic, honestly I found Mellon Collie to be their best all around, that album is in the same realm of The Wall or The Doors as among the single greatest albums ever produced, a nigh perfect achievement.
@@andrewhussey4538 Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness goes up there with Zeppelin IV, The Wall, and Morrison Hotel. You really need all four discs to truly appreciate what they accomplished as far as musical storytelling.
My Dad was a teenager during the Pumpkins peak and loved this band. I was born in 98 and growing up he always played this album as well as the Mellon Collie album in his truck. So, everytime I listen to them, and especially this song, I always feel so nostalgic and get those memories of being a kid. It's beautiful. Music is beautiful.
Right at the HS/college cusp. This came out in July '93? I graduated HS May-ish? '93, started college August same year. Big transition time. So many memories rushing back in a whirlwind! This album meant so much.
Black Pill Yellow class of 98 here too. I’d listen to this in my Walkman/ CD player over and over on the bus to school. Music absolutely saved me in high school and my early 20s
You are correct sir, Thkq for your input we will enter those as our (mine and your) favorite songs for now, but feel free to change them at any time! I basically like the whole catalog, but “Stand inside your love” is another great one! It’s been around for a while, but I only discovered it personally a few weeks ago! Anyway see ya later ✌🏻 😎Pal!
I’m so glad hummer was never made a single. It’s such a gem for everyone who actually listened to full albums. I mean shit this album is my favorite of the decade and really ranks up there as far as I’m concerned. But yeah. This was my favorite track the first day I got the album. And let’s not forget Pisces Iscariot...the b-sides to this album were an amazing album on their own.
They aren't underrated junior... They are the fuckin Smashing Pumpkins.. they made double-albums ... they even made a triple-album if I remember correctly....
You just experienced my favorite song of all time, since high school, and I turned 41 just 4 days ago. I think your appreciation of it the first time around deserves props because like you said, it's a DEEP song. They may be my favorite band, but I listened to them for a while before really finding their depth. But that was mainly due to being 15 years old, and not having developed a real refined appreciation for the intricacies of such an incendiary and epic song as "Mayonaise". (Thank you for spelling it right too lol) But I could see you grabbing onto and readying yourself in prep for certain licks. Thanks man, and the full respect to your musicality and open mindedness on these alternative rock plains. Stellar digs.
I'm so glad I found this. Really cool to see someone experience the Smashing Pumpkins for the first time. I've been a fan for most of my life and this is probably my favorite song. Billy's voice is ethereal and is a great contrast to his heavy guitar playing. When you learn the lyrics and the back story of how he grew up it really makes the music that much more meaningful. Can I also suggest checking out Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness album.
Thirdeye147 Good question. I remember playing it clean with a Gibson Explorer through a Peavey Express 112 amp with a Boss Flanger, an EHX Big Muff and a Crybaby Wah. The song was tuned down a half step, but drop D?...it sounds it, but I can barely remember yesterday (let alone 26 years ago 😂). Hopefully, Djo Fortunato can shed some light on the situation. 🍻
@@thirdeye147 Billy's in standard a half step down playing all the lead guitar, but James' guitar is tuned Eb Bb Bb Gb Bb D. It's a unique tuning I've never seen anyone else use, and it's a big part of what makes the clean sections and chords so pretty. But you can get pretty close if you just play it in Eb standard tuning.
His voice is wild. Many called it whiny in the early 90s...but his scream is amazing...then his speaking voice is like super deep....makes me giggle..love it... We need some new unique music!
TY for the heart❣ Check out a band called WEEN. Freedom 76, Piss up a rope, The mollusk, Mister richard smoker, ...talented, FUNNY, and superuderrated. (Also did a few spongebob songs..ocean man and loop dee loop tie your shoes song)I think you will get a kick outa them. They literally play every genre of music play it WELL! Love the channel.
This music and his voice are the apex of my youth. The quietness reflects how small and ignored I felt by everyone around me and the chaotic guitar effects and screaming voice reflects how much I wanted to be noticed and heard. That’s the beauty of their music for me. Every song is nostalgic.
Siamese Dream was the only CD I listened to from July 1993 until Feb 1994 when Green Day's Dookie came out. Then I alternated between the two until Weezer's Blue album came out that summer.
that sounds like me. Siamese Dream is my all time fav though. lol but I remember playing Weezer's Buddy Holly for my friend, and he thought it was stupid, then the video came out, and he thought it was awesome.
Those albums plus Dinosaur Jr- where ya been and Lemonheads- it's a shame about ray and come on feel. Then the whole wave of skatepunk and ska came in. Great time.
My little brother recently found my old cd collection. He's been obsessed with Smashing Pumpkins lately! I'm in my 30s, he's 17. I've taken him to so many concerts that has blown his little mind, it's wonderful seeing people discover music that they didn't even know they were missing
This song is one of the most deeeeeply nostalgic songs for me. I’m 16 and going through the type of existential angst only a teenager can reach EVERY TIME I hear it!
Nope. I am with you. These are the songs and the bands of my high school and college years. You are not alone. We are just a sullen and misunderstood group...lol the theme of 90s grunge/alternative. 😉
Very good choice of songs of theirs that you’ve gone for in your four-part reaction. I would also hugely recommend Bury Me from their 1st album plus Geek USA and Silverfuck from their second. All very heavy tracks with excellent drumming.
by far the best Smashing Pumpinks Song, in my opinion. The entire Album is amazing. But the floating of this song is beyond anything. Thanks for this reaction and sorry for my english. Greetings from Germany. Happy Halloween ;)
Absolutely hands down so puts my mind into nostalgia mode but it never gets old...love you smashing pumpkins.MEMORIES from another LIFETIME of mine..maybe a parallel universe?miss alot of you that strolled this lane with me,Peace...and lots of r.i.p.s~no more problems~no more sarrow...run away with me tomorrow♡
I went to this show with 20 people. But I walked of by myself and sat in the grass and watched it alone. They had giant screens and an orchestra. One of the best shows I've ever seen!
I re-discovered this tune a while back and it has become one of my favorite Pumpkins tunes. Also, if you haven't checked out the Mellon Collie album, it is an absolute masterpiece, every time I put the first disc on, I basically have to sit and listen to the entire double album all at once.
This song makes my hair stand on end!! Pumpkins forever!! I'm happy to see people going back and listening to music that started the grunge and alternative era. Melodic and hard rock.
This is the first of your videos I've watched, and it's really awesome to see someone react so positively to one of my favourite 90s tracks. Great stuff Jamel!
This popped up really by mistake because I play so much Smashing Pumpkins, and I was really thrilled to watch you listen and get your early reactions to what in my 50s became my favorite pumpkin song. After I had lost everything in my life that was important to me. I will check out your other video reviews....😉
Will always be my favorite album of all time and the most important album as well. That small feedback clip during the chorus man... hearing it again after several years of not listening to this made me cry.
My first album. Nice to see people rediscovering it after all this time and having the same appreciation. Thanks for reincarnating good music for a new audience
This is one of my favorite songs of all time. It brings me back to being a child in the early 90's, looking up to my older sister, who was a budding teen at the time. I'm 33 now. ('Thirty Three' being another favorite Pumpkins song of mine, seriously, look up Thirty Three, amazing song by the Pumpkins) My sister was hard into the grunge scene and by extension, so was I. This song speaks my youth to me.
my favorite pumpkins song (with stand inside my love and 1979 following) for over a decade now. finally heard it live during the oh so shiny and bright tour (2018) and, man, what an experience that was.
These songs really call to you to be immersed in the sound and experience. I used to be so cranky and ruthless when someone would interrupt or disturb this flow. LOL
I first jumped on the Smashing Pumpkins bandwagon when I saw "I am One" on MTV'S 120minutes while I was stationed in England. Mayonaise is my all time fave of theirs.
The word 'Underated ' appears often in these comments- probably because it's so true with this band. This song is probably my favourite ever song, even with stiff competition from all other songs on the planet that rock from geniuses such as Zeppelin, Beatles, Hendrix, Chili Peppers etc, I still come back to this one song and it never gets old!
Ahhh 1994..brings back sooo many great memories. Fresh outta High school Living downtown Orlando with my band members. Practiced in the living room. The gigs, the parties, the girls and good times.
The Smashing Pumpkins are my all-time favourite band. Their body of work is amazing to see, especially the transformations over time. But for me, the best part of SP in the 90s was their aesthetic, the imagery they used for their videos and photos are what inspired my own creativity in art and beyond.
You guys can’t leave out The Bends. Half that album deserves a spot, take your choice. My Iron Lung, Sulk, High and Dry, Just, Street Spirit, Bulletproof..... I’ll even give ya Creep though it may not be fashionable to say so.
Jamel_aka_jamal, one of the things that makes this song so great is that after the Smashing Pumpkins broke up, the lead singer, Billy Corgan, and James Iha, the other guitarist, didn’t speak to each other for over 10 years. Then about three years ago Billy Corgan was doing a concert and invited a “guest” musician to play this song with him. No one was expecting James Iha to be that guest musician; when he showed up on stage the crowed went crazy. Here’s the link to that video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--2S04DA0MNI.html
Just a brilliant album, a brilliant decade for this band. Glad that i was alive and growing up with this music. If any band needs lyric videos- it's this one. Billy is an incredible poet on top of all of his other talents.
Never seen this channel but I love smashing pumpkins and it's always so great to see people's reactions to their first time. Especially that you liked Billys voice since that was an instant turnoff for a bunch of my friends. Great vid
Fun factoid: that noise the guitar makes in the chorus, is from a faulty guitar that just does that noise at particular points when playing, and they decided to use it in the song instead of getting another guitar.
