There are many factors other than the number of words or Kanji one knows that contribute to one's level of fluency. But still, they are useful to talk about, as they are one of the few objective metrics we have in language learning, and in Japanese, the Snowball Effect is a real, measurable phenomenon, which we can take advantage of.
