the army has an oath that you never leave a man behind, my dad took that oath seriously, the army is a brotherhood and a sisterhood, its a family that fight's together and for each other! P.S To all who serve, thank you for keep us and I'm forever grateful!
I've been a Veteran now for 9 years as of 2 weeks ago. We're starting a new year still with old memories, but Life is good. I did 8 years ARMY ENGINEERS, ESSAYONS! I was Heavy Equipment then reclassed to be a Fueler, driving HEMMETS, HOOAH! FT. Leonard Wood, MO, Basic and AIT .
the american military is compiled of only volunteers. other militaries (for example, Korea) require military service from citizens once they reach a certain age or lifestage. what this means, is that the american military can train its recruits more harshly, but also that we can take more pride in our service members. Because we choose to join, knowing what it means or could mean. We join despite the hardships that we know we will face, because it means something to us. Wearing the uniform is such an honor, and its a humbling experience everytime.
The harshness of the training is indenpent of the voluntary/involuntary status of the country's military. It is simply a matter of culture. North Korea, for instance, has forced military service and harsher treatment of their recruits, nevermind their citizens. Russias also has ridiculously harsh training when they aren't just forcing prisoners and farmers into conscription. It does bear repeating that the US military is all volunteer and how special that is. That means every one that dies in it chose put themselves in that position on the behalf of others, whether those others are grateful or not.

@@darkapothecary4116 Not sure if he ever responded but that is a Food Service Specialist. They are in charge of making sure that the soldiers in and off the field gets fed. No matter if it is a hot plate or an MRE. Not a lot of folks gets respect for this MOS but it is a vital part especially during combat. You can't fight if your troops are starving.
ughh, i remember Boot camp years years ago, my drill sergeant kept smoking everyone untill i recite the soldiers creed with no mistake every morning. ughhh
I bet it would’ve been useful to memorize it beforehand, but act like you just learned it and pretend to get it perfect on the second day to get on sarge’s good side.
While I really enjoy the message of this on paper. There's something offputting about one hundred or so men repeating this back as a mantra. I feel like it could possibly brainwash an uneducated, unaware recruit into being a self righteous cold killer.

@Jerry68W I don't think you fight for me, no offense dude, but I'm not american. but from what you said you sound like a true soldier indeed, I myself can't say I would gladly give my life for my country, (I'm only 15)
Its this shit that causes veterans too scared of asking when ptsd is concerned. They are warriors and at these make hard to ask for help and they cant bare it and suicide is only answer. They got a place you feel like Family that leave that and suddenly are not there sue suddenly they back home. Its long dravn out process but glory is not taking anothers life
