That overnight time-lapse blew me away. I thought you would need a full-frame camera to do that successfully. I've been getting away with using the Panasonic g80 for professional projects and borrowing a GH5 but I think I'll upgrade to this Sony A6600 as it seems like an affordable professional upgrade.

I'm sure it would pair nicely as a secondary camera with my A7iii, and I already have plenty of lenses for the system... but I'll wait until 4K60fps comes from Sony. It can be full frame with the A7Siii or with some suped up A6XXX or A7000 in the future

Love that you said that you like being limited with your lenses. I have been super happy with just a Canon 80d with a sigma 17-50 f2.8 for video and a 50mm f/1.8 for portraits or slow motion video. Simple setups FTW

I'm a photographer that shoots a6400 it's amazing I just get stabilized lenses or use a tripod or steady my hand lol it's amazing and a grip on it and extra batteries you'll be fine and tamron 17-70 is cheaper stabalized and gives more focal length

Why not a full frame A7iii and Tamron 28-75 for the same price?

Got rid of the 6400 for the 6600. Just the battery life is one major reason. I do not have to carry 4 batteries anymore to shoot a couple hours of video… So far I have spent a day just with the one battery. I used it for over 3 hours and it still had over 55 percent….. Plus the other upgrades to the a6600 were sufficient for me to take the plunge. I sold the 6400 and now I am so glad I did it. The lens, I am saving for…..

1080p 120fps looking like regular 4k video! plus the colors are popping.

Definitely enjoyed the update on this camera. I think the selling point for me when you stated that it can be used for pretty much all types of video. I really hate having to switch lenses during shoots. If I can just keep that on it and get that look I’m going for then I’m sold.

You believe it’s competitive for the XT 3 in your opinion? Considering the XT 3 has 10 bit color and seemingly more detailed files would you consider this as a dealbreaker in your opinion?

I had an a6400 that I sold to get an EOS R instead, and I’m glad I made the switch. But looking at this footage I’m surprised, I don’t remember the color science being anywhere near this good with the a6400, is anyone else surprised by the improved color science in this? I would upgrade but I'm waiting for Sony to release a mirrorless camera with 4k 60fps. I currently use the Sony a6500 and I think it's amazing, except the battery life and sometimes over heating... But I work around it...

Hey man, love your content. I own the A6400 with the 10-18 f4, Sigma 16 1.4, Sigma 30 1.4, and the 18-105 f4. You mention minimalist film making. I mostly do VLOGs. The idea of having the A6600 with the 16-55 f2.8 seems like I really could do everything with that, and lighten my load since I travel A LOT. Less batteries to haul with me to. Do you think it’s worth it to upgrade?

I have the combo. Great all-around tandem. I don’t do video, so maybe I over spent, but I have no regrets. Only “criticism”? I wish you’d kept the hand movement down, a bit. It detracts from an. Otherwise well-made, informative and entertaining presentation. And, oh yeah, more still shots with exposure info would have been nice for us non-videographers. Thank you for a really great video presentation.

I had for years the A6000 and took it everywhere internationally. Loved the camera, so got the A6600 in December, but never had a chance to really use it on a trip til a few days ago. So, the images are wonderful-a clear improvement over the A6000. Now, as to the Sony 16-55mm lens...outrageously expensive at $1400 on Amazon today with unimpressive f/2.8 low light capability for the price. Instead, definitely consider the Sigma lens: 16mm F/1.4 for $399 and use the basic Sony kit lens. Again, love the camera but forget the lens (for the price).

Great video dude! I managed to find 6 new things from the a6400 in my video (with Sidney's help). Battery and Eye AF were huge but my biggest one was the fact that when you plug in a monitor, you keep face tracking (maybe even eye af) in 4k. That's something that has bugged me about the other sony cameras for a long time.

I don't know much about Sony...do the other cameras like the A6400 have good autofocus with video? I'm planning on filming a reality show within the next few weeks and having good auto focus would help a lot!

The footage looks incredibly soft when watching it on full screen. The GH5 is still the absolute best all around cam when it comes to video. Easily.

What about the combo of Sony - E 10-18mm F4 with OSS and Sigma 30mm f1.4? It costs less than 18-55mm, 10-18 has OSS, they both pretty much do everything 18-55 does but you have a wider lens + 30mm which is better in low light. Of course it's 2 lenses instead of 1. If 18-55 had an OSS I would surely go for it... but without ... eh. Too costly.

I went with this expensive setup purely because of size. And yes I know, I know, with all that money I know I could've easily gotten the a7 III with the Tamron 28-75mm, but hey, size matters a ton for the heavy traveler! (about 50,000-70,000 miles in the air a year).

I've had the a6000 for almost 6 years now. For most outdoor stuff I use the Sony 16-70 f4.0, but it's kinda slow for indoor, so I switch to the Sony 35mm f1.8. With this new combo, I could probably get away with just one lens and not have to carry any spare batteries. A lot of money, but if it's as good as you say, I could go another 6 years - at least.

Would you still recommend this lens today for video being that the Tamron 17-70mm and the Sony 18-50mm came out? Just wondering because I know the price is hefty and the focal range isn’t as big as Tamron, but I still feel it has its ups to the other two.

Looks like a camera i might buy,because i liked my Sony APS-C camera from before..I shoot full frame and in the streets mostly.I have a nice,big,bulky,ugly DSLR and I love it,because I happen to be someone used to weight,size,and not having it affect me at all.I guess if cameras were like those older VHS camcorders,then i might not want to because of the size.Now when i got my DSLR,i knew it had great IBIS,so I went off shooting all over the place,went to New Orleans,etc,etc,and i just knew i was shooting FF with IBIS,until months later,i was watching a tutorial,and found out it was in APS-C mode,with IBIS off.See,I figured the default settings would be ff with IBIS,so then I changed it .The point is,I didint suffer without the IBIS,and as many have said,when you have a nice sized body with weight,it helps stabilize the camera.If you have been shooting a bow,if you shot film cameras,trained to fight,or anything that requires precision/bracing,then you are head of the curve.Once you brace properly, breathe properly,and know how to carefully depress a shutter,you should get steady results.I also have been waiting for Sony to make the bodies larger,instead of those wood match boxes, and finally a battery that lasts over 5 minutes.Who is doing that,carrying around 40 batteries and stopping every 10 minutes to change them???I have two extra batteries yet i am so comfortable leaving them home,unless I am going out of town...

I think it's about time they got came out with a 24-70 equivalent constant 2.8 lens. Every system needs that zoom range. The price makes me thankful for my lens options with a GH5.

I've been watching your videos for a while now and I always love how you do your coloring. I bought a sony A6600 recently and I'm still trying to figure out color grading, especially using S-Log2 or 3 vs HLG2 since its an 8 bit and not a 10 bit camera. Do you remember what color mode you used with the HLG2 picture profile? Did you change anything else in the picture profile (like changing detail to -7)? Did you do much color grading or use LUTs? Thank you!

I still feel the 1080p out of this could be way better - If you look closely at some of the water shot it just looks blocky/pixelated. I have the same problem with my a6500 and hoped they would have fixed it. The 1080p out of the RX10 II is better and that's pretty old now!

Thanks for the review video Chrystopher! I own the a6300, but my main issue with it is the rolling shutter which drives me crazy! In your experience, is the rolling shutter better with the A7III?

Headphone jack, Z battery, colour science, real time eye AF (can this be selected via the touchscreen? could sort out that wandering eye AF lockon) and still some of the best 4k footage out there. Shame it wasn't the 26mp that Sony makes for Fuji. Them calling it the flagship APSC means I can't see them doing the mythical A7000 anytime soon. That will hopefully have the 26mp sensor and a flip screen in an SLR type body.

For the price of this camera you might as well get Sony a6500 and rig it out. Plus you can use a V-Mount battery. Or better yet, get the GH5.

I would like your opinion on whether I’d be making a mistake. I am a musician/rapper with a love for travel + a plan to open a RU-vid channel for the duration of my career. I have no filmmaking experience as far as like shooting music videos or anything of that nature, tbh. But I’m really sold on getting the equipment and just rocking. I’m sold on this camera, but curious about whether you think I should just hold off, pay people to shoot music videos, use laptop cameras to film for YT, etc. Any word sir?

Canon has a stabilized 17-55mm f2.8 apsc lens for 800 new and used around 500-600. Canon 90d is 1200. So for the price of the a6600 and this lens. You can get a 90d, canon 17-55mm and gimbal. Canon isn't as fancy as Sony, but it's sure more affordable.

I have the Sigma 16mm and 30mm as well as the Sony 18-105. Would it be worth selling all of those to get the 16-55 they just dropped?

4.5k for this combo in Australia . I bought the a6400 , if the a6600 came out at the the same time , I would have chosen the a6600.. Sony didn’t want more of my money . Not upgrading . Use the a6400 as a studio camera . Need the a7siii now for the on the road camera ..
