Hi Steve. That was cool. Love the bird song. I like to listen to them in the mornings.very peaceful. Sony still makes some cool radios and attachments. Thank you for sharing. and take care buddy. Looking forward to more.
Hi. I am Deniz from Turkey . I have just bougth a 7600gr and plugged in the antenna jack. But only am sounds..fm is just silent. It doesnt work with fm. When I plug out the jack fm works. Is this normal? Is that jack only for am?
Nice to hear the birds in the background when it is 5 degrees outside with snow on the ground. It seemed like summer for a short while. By the way, where did you run off to during the video?. A few minutes after you left their was fire trucks very close by. did a neighbor have a fire?. They have a cheaper loop antenna made by Kaito. That model is a33 but it looks like junk quality wise compared to the Sony. After seeing this video I ordered the Sony antenna on Amazon and it will arrive Monday Feb 24. Another thing I noted about your video. It was published on my birthday.
By the way, the control box does not ever operate from power from the radio antenna jack. The voltage present there simply turns the control unit off or on along with the radio itself. You are still on AAA battery power while using this feature. The red LED can fool you.
Switching on/off power, not *operating* power. What happens with some Sony and Tecsun radios is, if you leave the ANLP1 in the standby position as it's connected to the radio, then powering on the radio will power on the antenna (and off, etc.). It's a useful feature for saving antenna unit battery life by not leaving it on inadvertently. But it doesn't get its operating power from the radio; it still needs its own battery supply to work properly.
I have one of these. The trinket helps prevent RF energy from your shack and other nearby sources from "riding" up the control cable and getting into what you wish to listen to.
Just picked this radio up, do you think it's worthy purchasing the an-lp1? I have a full wave 80 meter horizontal loop but since this radio sends a dc current out of the ext ant jack, I suspect hooking up a loop will short circuit it and do bad things.
Actually it's fine. Has some sort of built in capacitor or something like that on the antenna to protect it from static and the low voltage it sends. People do it all the time and it's completely fine. You can also get an adapter on universal radio i believe that turns the 3.5mm into a BNC and isolates the voltage.
