I know many people have this debate so I wanted to see what happens when Sony's Official RGB SCART cable (Made for PS1 in this case mind you) fares against a third party Component cable! Enjoy!

I use Component for my HDTV and RGB Scart for my CRT TV.

If they look good and you enjoy the results, keep using it! Both are great options :)

Great video. What about the official PS3 component cable’s for the PS2? And basically the official RGB SCART cable is the same for 480i games?

They work the same on PS2, all component cables work on both PS2 & PS3 and as long as the cable quality is good, the image will be great :) They both the same, the RGB SCART in this video was made with PS1 in mind but, you can get PS2 specific RGB SCART cables & if you do, the image quality will match the component cables :)

Bit off-topic but do you experience any ‘burn-in’ on your screen when using the OSSC in combination with the PlayStation 2? I heard that this could be an issue with the OSSC using bob-deinterlacing.

I don't use an OLED screen on my MacBook so no :) Also these days I use passthrough mode using interlaced video so this does not activate the bob deinterlacing effect :) If you do use it, I've personally had no problems with bob deinterlacing after owning my OSSC for more than 4 years now :)

@@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial Thank you for your response 👍 Are there any disadvantages using passthrough mode?

If you mean passthrough on all modes it depends :) First one is lower image quality since all resolutions would not be boosted Interlaced passthrough mode could induce lag although I never found this an issue On lower resolutions (288p/240p) some cables like Component may fail to display since the resolution is too low and the 2x mode for 480p/576p is highly recommended :) Otherwise, test it, try it and see what works and what is best for your setup and display :)

@@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial Bob deinterlacing can theoretically affect LCDs (rather than OLEDs) since the line flicker interferes with the the pixel inversion that's used to reduce permanent image retention. I'm not sure how severe a problem it is in practice. :)

Worth noting when it comes to cables optimized for the PS2's internally buffered output is that Sony's official PlayStation2 RGB SCART cable is internally identical to that for the original PlayStation for the sake of cross compatibility, so that wouldn't result in any improvement.

Ah that is very interesting & I'd to learn more about that :)
