I use RGB with most of my consoles (pre-XBOX 360). Just some more information you might be interested to know: On the RGB pins of the AV Multi-out, the PS1 can output 15KHz RGB. The PS2 and PS3 can additionally output YPbPr and 31KHz RGB. 15KHz RGB is only used for standard definition. 31KHz RGsB (s stands for sync) is used for 480p/576p and higher resolutions. RGB scart, JP21, component, d-terminal and VGA cables can all carry all three signals. The issues lie in hardware compatibility. The scart standard is standard-definition only, so no 480p or 576p. You will never find a TV that supports it, however, the OSSC uses a non-standard scart port that allows this. Sony made four cables meant to output RGB: SCPH-1050 - JP21 cable for PS1 SCPH-1052 - RGB scart variant of SCPH-1050 SCPH-10142 - RGB scart cable for PS2 SCPH-10320 - VGA adapter for PS2 While the PS1 cables will work with PS2 and PS3 (and vice versa), the spec isn't a 100% match. In theory, for the best picture, cables made for PS1 should only be used on PS1, and cables for PS2 should be used on PS2 and PS3. In practise though, it's not noticeable. The best picture quality you can get for PS1 and standard-definition PS2 games is an RGB scart cable outputting 15KHz RGB connected to an analog CRT TV with an RGB scart input. For 480p PS2 games you should can use a PC CRT monitor compatible with RGsB and either the official VGA adapter or the component cable with a passive component-to-VGA adapter. Since the PS2 can output 31KHz RGB over component cables, this is possible. Alternatively, you can use an RGB scart cable and a scart-to-BNC adapter with a 480p-compatible PVM or BVM. No PS2 game outputs 576p. The progressive scan option outputs 480p, even for PAL games. You can force 576p with the GSM homebrew software. With the 576p option selected on the PS3 it upscales the 576i output of PAL PS2 games to 576p. The 576p limitation for RGB on the Ps3 is purely an arbitrary one that Sony put in. RGB scart is capable of higher resolutions.

Amazing how much can be found out about a cable eh xD
@leatherhidegaming
@leatherhidegaming 2 года назад
I figured it out. The answer is yes. Both the official scart and the JP21 variants have capacitors in the connector that make up for the fact that the motherboard doesn't have them. The PS2 cable doesn't have them inside of the connector cause the motherboard already has them.

I was fortunate enough that the shopkeeper where i bought my ps1 told me about it and said: "If you wanna play imported games , you need this cable, or you'll have to play them in black and white. Besides that, believe me, you HAVE TO get this cable, look at the quality!" and it showed me a ps1 connected with the SCART RGB cable. For 30ish bucks I bought it immediately. To the Uploader, I always played my PS1 back in the day with Scart. When I went into Currys to get a brand-new PlayStation, personal reasons to why I ended up with a second consul, not relevant to the story. I literally went to look for an RGB Scart cable also, specifically when I was at home and when I was at my grandmothers I was using RF 😜 Where available I will happily use RGB scart where applicable. I’m guessing if you really wanted to clean up the image even further you could always try and find an M classic HDMI adapter. Just make sure your consoles are set to their “negative“ resolutions. So for example when looking at the PS2 480p over component and 720p for the HD systems in the form of Xbox 360/PS3, From the BM classic adapter should automatically upscale and clean any rough edges. I really think ultimately when we went to transition into progressive scan outside of the way, the PAL region really got the shaft in the form of progressive scan on GameCube, Xbox and PS2. I mean component cables for GameCube won’t readily available and most games would only support PAL at 60Hz anyway, Xbox didn’t support component natively but at least gave us a SCART option, something is better than nothing. Sony was a little bit better but not by much, this has been my observation on the subject matter anyway. Sorry for the verbal rant, I get pretty obsessed with things like this. I guess the other thing I should mention is the original PlayStation was the first time I had the sound coming out of a hi-fi, Tekken 2 and ssoul blade specifically. Thanks for the video much appreciated.
@TheAffroShowGameplay
@TheAffroShowGameplay 2 года назад
I'll say that for the PS2, 480p is supported via Scart too, just need a device or tv or monitor that supports Sync On Green (OSSC does) Sony did a pretty good job with Progressive scan on PS2 in PAL, it was the only console of the three that did xD Xbox & Gamecube took it out :o I wouldn't buy the M Classic personally, the difference is not consistent enough from what I've seen & it's too expensive but that's my thoughts :) Thank you for the interesting comment by the way 😄

@@TheAffroShowGameplay I think it was more likely an essay but no worries. Honestly I prefer the XRGB mini if for no other reason you can actually use it as a hub because it also has two HDMI input ports as well as composhite with S video. I was lucky enough to pick one up before they got ridiculously expensive because discontinued. It’s still in storage though because I need to do some home improvements 😜😂😜 I’ve been needing to get a new manual wheelchair as a priority over anything else within the last three years, at least as an adult I’ve got my priorities straight (sort of). I was never a big fan of later PS2 games and I became an even bigger fan of the GameCube and original Xbox. One day I just want an excuse to go and track down a whole bunch of US builds of GameCube and Xbox titles I already own in PAL format. I think the worst console ever made because of bad video output decisions was the PAL region version of the Nintendo 64, what were Nintendo smoking back then? Ultimately I took an interest in SCART as a video output format from the time I was 11 years old, I am now at 35 at the time of writing.

@@TheAffroShowGameplay I’ve checked eBay and there’s cheap ones for sure but idk if I would want to purchase them. I have RCA scart cable for the Dreamcast and the games looks sharp as hell.

@TheAffroShowGameplay 3 месяца назад
@prestigeworldwide5682 If it is unbranded, definitely avoid! If it is branded, it'll depend on the brand how good it will be :) Ah, don't forget the Dreamcast's output is higher at 480i or 576i for PAL games & VGA cables would give you 480p progressive scan & even sharper results!

How does PS1 Scart compare on CRT with Composite?
@TheAffroShowGameplay
@TheAffroShowGameplay 3 года назад
I don't have a CRT so I can't test that out unfortunately:/
@JBalmoreS
@JBalmoreS Год назад
I know this is a late reply but scart can generate the same signal as composite, S-Video and more. Specifically RGB scart looks just like YpBpr cables (component) on a CRT. Which is to say a lot more crisp and colorful than composite, CRT with the true blacks just makes the colors pop like you see in an arcade or an OLED. I personally prefer to play RGB Scart only post-PS2 era because composite video has an anti aliasing look. RGB can't do progressive scan unless you have a PS2 with a sync on green compatible cable and monitor, RGB scart really was the HD of the 90s tube TVs.

Thank goodness my OSSC can see Sync on green, it is a lifesaver :)
