it the classic example of misery loves company, he just couldn't stand that janice was doing better and he had so much angry still in him. He had to bring her to his level, which is why you see the smile when she flips.
Little Carmine is one of the funniest idiots on the show. "The fundamental question is: will I be effective as a boss like my dad was? And I will be, even more so, but until I am, it's going to be hard to verify that I think I'll be more effective." LOL
Tony gives lip service to people close to him improving themselves, but truthfully he can't stand it. He's jealous of their personal accomplishments to change for the better. Probably because he has such a hard time improving himself. Misery loves company.
@@jgarofalo8813Janice deserved it. While explaining her new found piety, she was indirectly talking about tony, not herself, he's beneath her and such. Yes Tony is horrible and does horrible things, however, Janice is far worse. She tried to manipulate Richie into killing him, her own brother
Wrong this was a pivotal moment where Tony realizes his anger and temper Not only make him a better mobster but who he is. And hence Tony accepts the fate of his to come. The song by the Kinks says it all Listen to the lyrics. He was testing Janice because he needed to know the truth whether her behavior had changed or if it was who she truly was?
Considering your intro, you gotta watch “The Wire” next. “The Wire” is another HBO show that aired during the same years as “The Sopranos” and I would say they are just about tied for the best two drama ever made. You will like it like you like Sopranos.
I have binged watched your reaction videos of The Sopranos. I came to the last one and i thought you had finished watching them , i am so glad you hadn't. One of the best TV series ever IMO.
The bear outside was a metaphor. She was calling divorce lawyers to finish with Tony, and the bear represented Tony, the big bear, always creeping around to where she can't get away from him.
So funny how Meadow capes up for Vito and the crew knowing how Jackie Jr really met his end. Even though she doesn’t know it was Vito specifically that pulled the trigger. All to protect the family.
Janice and the soccer game fight is one of the best comedy bits of the series especially when the cop tackles her. I have to always rewind it a few times to watch it again. The Johnny Soprano family is the epitome of “crabs in a bucket mentality” where one starts to do well and someone has to drag them back down. No wonder the other sister ran and married a nice, quiet guy.
Tony was buying what Janice was saying, about controlling her anger and the sadness lifting.. _"Depression is rage turned inwards"_ He remembered the words of Dr Melfi. He just felt inadequate cause now he's the only angry Soprano... so he made sure he corrected that at the end of the episode.
I always thought Carmellas reaction to Meadow being engaged was her remembering a time when she was happy and excited to be engaged to Tony. Young love and once feeling happy, and being worried that her daughter would feel trapped as she gets older like she does.
Tony needled Janice because he's envious of her making an attempt at bettering herself while he can't change even after years of therapy. 'If I can't have it no one can' basically.
Tony is watching people around him grow and change, but he is unable to, so he tries to make everyone as miserable as he is. His whole arc through this entire series is realizing that he can't change for the better and the best he can do is accept who and what he is.
43:10 Asia you're both beautiful and spot-on. Tony is not a person who actually wants people close to him to be happy....well maybe Meadow. He's a miserable prick in his core. BJ's point is also very sharp - you caught how Tony was watching Janice showing restraint, and it pissed him off.
I said it from the start, there is not a single character in this show that is completely likeable. Sil comes close but then they remind you that your liking him is also misplaced. It is the beauty of this show...no other show touches on human nature like The Sopranos..no other show gets close. You want to root for Tony but the writers just wont let you.
Asia you're right at 13:25 , There's a known fact that his actual wife plays as his wife in the show. Steve Van Zandt (Sil) is also a member of Bruce Springsteen band.
Yep like they explained anger is all about control and Tony is losing it with his cousin, johnny, Carmela, ect that he will try and manipulate things to go his way even if it’s just eating at the dinner table.
What Tony did really reminds me of when we're kids and we want to tease or annoy our sister. It happened to me as well a few times and it was my sister that was the perpetretor. lol
Changing to being all positive all the time sucks! I tried that and I was miserable. I almost lost myself trying to be the good guy. I’m happy again after 5 years. Janice is lucky to have had someone to remind her of who she truly is.
Tony couldn't bear to see Janice getting along with her new family. The dinner scene represented the family life he pissed away by choosing not to keep it in his pants. He accomplished nothing. His family is still fractured because of his choices. Janice is trying to change.
i'm pretty sure the bear symbolizes Tony. The writers and characters in the show have used that to describe him. He's big, not really fit, still strong, and intimidating.
Janice was taking digs at tony when she was explaining her new found piety. Nearly Like something he mentioned earlier. We just smiled and got you back later.
Tony showed how foul he really is in regards to what he did to Janice, he was jealous of Janice being happy, and decided to go very very low about her Son.
His characters name is Rusty Millio . He was present at the table when Tony ( Steve Buscemi ) was hired to commit the hit where he injured his foot. If I remember correctly Frankie is featured more in upcoming episodes.
The pivotal moment when by testing his sister he realizes that not only has his anger and temper helped him be a better mobster it is who he is inside. Tony accepts his fate to come as the lyrics say I'm not like Everybody else. Foreshadowing at its finest.
Would it be possible at some point for you guys to watch all the seasons of In Living Color? I Haven’t watched it in such a long time, would love to see your reactions to it! You both are awesome!! Just subscribed to all of your wonderful channels 🤘
I think this is the moment Tony became Heisenberg - Melfi was getting comfortable (or reckless) enough to actually make serious progress... finally... for once (Not blaming her, Tony is what he is) and Tony understood he was now at a crossroads where he could turn a corner and actually work towards being a better person, or he could hit the accelerator and just embrace being a villain. Obviously remnants of the good man buried deep inside show up here and there - he'd still never hurt animals or children - at least not directly. But yeah, that Harpo moment is tough to watch - I mean, for sure Janice can rot in hell for abandoning her child, that said, Tony is quite the monster here. Such a damn good show. Modern entertainment sucks now. =/
