Fitting to make Pinocchio the 1st Ghost/Christmas Past, considering that his friend Jiminy Cricket played the Ghost of Christmas Past in "Mickey's Christmas Carol."
If this is what The Sorcerer's Apprentice is like in live action, I don't even want to think what the Night on Bald Mountain remake would be like. I wish I was making that up.
Fun fact: This movie features both Jay Baruchel and Alfred Molina. The two of them would later star together as Hiccup and Viggo Grimborn in the How to train your dragon netflix series, Race to the Edge.
I was having a bit of a rough day becauses of car troubles again and when I saw you uploaded a review, I was exited. Then I saw it got blocked, I actually shouted you gotta be kidding me ! But I'm glad I can finnaly watch it ! Edit: yes I have an heart !
"a ring that will guide him to the prime merlinian" and by "guiding" he means "go put this ring on the finger of everyone you find until it detects it's a merlinian, it's gonna take a few centuries, but I trust in you." 7:30 seriously? a decade later and you still talk about it? There were absolutely NO other memories to discuss on your reunion? Like... I don't know, "remember when I asked you to be my girlfriend?"? 11:40 urgh, no that "use % of the brain" bullshit again... 16:06 Ok, Alfred Molina is the best part of this movie. Also, I would like to give credit to the movie's portrayal of magic, some spells and effects were REALLY creative, I especialy liked when Baltazar threw that "time stopping liquid" at Horvath during the wolves scene, if there is a creative way to show someone slowing time on a target, a liquid glass-like substance is definitely an unique approach.
@@MrKlausbaudelaire Trust me, The House of Mouse can't do justice to staying faithful to adapting the old myths and fairy tales just to make it child friendly.
@@willlyon7129 Honestly, adapting the legend of King Arthur even to the last detail would give it the same kind of rating from Chronicles of Narnia. It wasn't really game of thrones, just medieval fantasy.
Rachel I don’t remember them playing it that much :/ I just remember it play twice. Once when he was alone playing the song on the tesla coil and the another time he was showing her he could use the tesla coil to play the song.
I'm okay with Jay because I enjoyed him in HTTYD. Admittedly you have to get used to his voice but there are times the mannerisms he puts in makes me laugh. I certainly giggled when he went "Uh uh uh what the heck is that?!" XD but I can see why Bob doesn't like him. This movie is certainly okay for what it is. I can tell Nicholas Cage and Jay enjoyed doing their roles in this. Fun little review as always Bob. C: (Also I know who slapped ya, Bob. XD careful what ya say or she won't be happy. lol)
I love how you used Pinocchio's marionette staff (sorry if I don't know the proper term for it) to travel to the next film. It's really unique and creative for a Christmas Carol parody. I wonder who the other two ghosts will be.
11:32 That pretty much ruins the concept of magic. Magic is supposed to be a power of the supernatural, not science. I know in Harry Potter, Snape says subtle science about potions, but he was likely speaking figuratively.
Per Harry Potter. In Mage the Awakening, probably one of the inspirations for this film, reality is malleable. Magi are those who can reshape reality. Magic is that process of reshaping. Which you could either be a traditional wizard, or a mad scientist. The power is the same, the methods differ, it still works. Under normal circumstances in Mage the Awakening, using magic out in the open with mortal witnesses, generates paradox. Basically the universe going stop that you idiot.
Paladin Demo: Still, wizards and mad scientists are not the same thing, although in the Marvel comics, Dr. Doom is both a sorcerer and a scientist. Don’t call me an idiot, I have never heard of the series you just talked about. Magic/supernatural is generally supposed to be beyond science and laws of physics.
Yes, they are different, but the results are the same. When you awaken, anything is possible. You can practice Magic anyway you want, it'll still work regardless of what tradition, craft, or ceremonies you use.
@@matthewdilday7918 They weren't calling you an idiot. They were saying that in Mage the Awakening, a paradox created by using magic out in the open is essentially the universe going "stop that, you idiot".
That's the problem with this movie, since and magic are two separate things. Magic can not be explained scientifically, it only belongs in fiction no the real world. Also if sorcerers use their brain powers for magic, isn't it a hereditary genetics?
If you told me that this was slightly based on Fantasia, I would laugh. You wanna remake it, put Mickey Mouse and nix How'd it get burned and hiccup out of it. Feels like they just wanted to do that broom clean up scene because they owned the IP.
My guess is that they wanted to call it The Sorcerer's Apprentice, realized that the Fantasia short was already called that, and then just added the broom thing in because they knew if they didn't reference the short at all everyone would be like "WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH MICKEY MOUSE". But otherwise it's a completely unrelated movie.
I hope Bobsheaux discusses the remakes not discussed by Doug Walker. Maybe he could review Christopher Robin (which is a Pooh sequel, not a remake. Much in the same vain as Mary Poppins Returns)
Why couldn't Horvac get out by walking through his own reflection? Because there were no other mirrors in the bathroom. It's like an infinite mirror thing, okay.
Fantasia's Sorcerer's Apprentice: Mickey wanting to experience how is it to be like a sorcerer, even if that then makes a disaster with only one spell. Real Life Sorcerer's Apprentice: Dr Strange, but with a young boi instead of an adult protagonist, science, and the Fantasia's version only appears as a short-time joke.
Actually, one thing I always loved about Nicholas Cage as an actor is that he tends to play roles the opposite intensity than what would normally be called for: he goes over the top when you'd think he'd go subdued, and he goes subdued when you think he'd go over-the-top
I don't know. The whole "Love is a distraction" thing would've still been stupid. Don't the Jedis rely on feelings rather than thought? How can padawans be expected NOT to fall in love? Also, why couldn't love be taken as a motivator? The Jedi would feel the need to fight to protect and save those they care about.
It was explained that long time ago there were Jedi who fell in love. They became the Sith when one couldn't bare losing his love and attempted to bring her back.
Well Pinocchio was a flop at the box office, but it became a classic and has stood the test of time for over 70 years along with Fantasia and countless other films from Disney. This movie, while not too bad, likely won't be remembered in 70 years along with some other remakes that Bobsheaux has reviewed.
Nice to see the video's back up. 9:14 I honestly thought your problem with this bit would be that you were dealing with wolves again, not... that a guy ran away from wolves trying to kill him. 11:28 I mean if we're going by Arthur C. Clarke's Third Law "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic", and the fact that "Sorcery" more or less has an explanation for why it happens (the 10% thing notwithstanding), it technically is a science.
Something about your line delivery at 5:34 reminds me of when Lumiere said it (in response to Beast growling at him for wanting Belle to be in a more comfortable room) Was that intended?
Hey! love the show! Have you considered reviewing Happily Ever After from Filmation directed by John Howley? When I was a kid I watched a ton (no clue what I was really watching, just pretty colors) I'd be really interested in hearing what you have to say about it =)
I was eagerly waiting for you to touch on this flick! Mostly to see your opinion on the subject of magick (because yeah, this fanboy here is a Sorcerer...yes, a real one, and no I'm not a sorcerer supreme...yet >:) ) and yeah, I was surprised by your response, good call on the Alchemy vs. Sorcery comment. Though spiritual Alchemy plays a huge role in Sorcery. This flick does seem fun (though personally, I'll stick with the Fantasia one because of the animation rocks my core), though I grow tired of Hollywood's portrayal of magick because Magick (yes we put the K at the end because Magic is merely referring to tricks performed by Illusionists) is subtle, easy to miss if you're not paying attention, or being specific on what you wish to manifest. Also, Sorcery also entails you to work with the gatekeepers of power, be they Angels, Demons, or Gods (Luckily I worked with all of them, and this path is very interesting) and by befriending them, you realize magick is the very threads of reality, able to be weaved by the mind and willpower. So, yeah good review, glad you won against the block/copyright strikes, I merely wish I could do something to get them to stop, though if there is, I'll let you know, until then, keep this up...though I'm dreading the next remake you'll review... >.>
I'm surprised Jay Barushel never played Spider-man, he'd be a great Peter Parker. He can actually be awkward and nerdy, but his role as Hiccup proves he can also he witty and heroic.
Would this one really count as a "remake" since it has practically nothing in common with the original short from "Fantasia"? Apart from the broom sequence the connection to the Mickey Mouse cartoon is in name only. 🤨 Alfred Molina is honestly the main thing that makes this movie even remotely memorable.
Man this movie... just why was it even made. Btw why is an ancient british sorcerer called Horvath??? That's a hungarian/croatian name. Or at least that's how we hungarians call croatians. Weird choice for a name. HUh,. so you liked it? I frankly found it so much of a missed opportunity, barely doing anything with the premise.
Hey bob raisorblade is going through some tough times right now, could you go over and wish him well or tell him your there for him? I'm sure he'd really apperciate that from you and Raven
This is the story of a girl, who tried to be a sorcerer and drowned the whole world! And while she looked so sad in her witches' hat, she absolutely loved it when I smiiiiiiled!
I have never seen any of the live action remakes, and now that I'm seeing your reviews of them, I don't want to. Those movies look boring af to me. Which is weird, because my media standards are actually not very high at all. There's some movies I've liked that others hated, such as The Cat In The Hat live action version, and Cars 2. and yet I don't seem to like these.
I got this Pinocchio from THIS GUY on etsy. www.etsy.com/shop/FigurinsWithCharisma?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=603876014 He just HAPPENED to have this one-of-a-kind Pinocchio for sale, but who knows? Maybe you can commission him for one yourself. I highly recommend it! ;)
Neat, thanks for replying. On second thought alchemy obviously is now outdated however without its innovations we would never have the science we have today. Pretty neat. Also that guy did a great job, he really has talent.
one Balthazar could not go through his refelection because from his point of view he didn't have one. second, could you review the that disney's remake of it's fifties/sixties film That darn cat.
This has nothing to do with the sorcerer's apprentice except the scene when the hero uses magic to clean a room; that's it! The wizard isn't name Yen sid, the teenager doesn't wears the red robe, there's no giant waves. Also, when he killed the broom it's slow and boring while in the original it's fast and scary like in a horror movie. Thank's for ruining an intense moment Disney 🙄😒 The evil witch backstory is repeated 2 times, one at the begining and one in the middle of the movie. That's not annoying at all 😂
