Ive loved Adrian and The Sound ever since i first heard Missiles and I Cant Escape Myself on the radio around 1980-81. The sheer emotion from Adrian here is one of those very significant moments in music history. The leader of one of the greatest bands of the early 80s, standing very tall and shouting wake up and follow me.
My late best friend went to The Hague that day. Not to protest, but to see The Sound. He saw them at least 6 times in those years.I always envied him for that, I was too young..
I've been trying to transcribe what he says in the middle of the song: It's not the technology, you know It's not the technology that's the problem We're the problem You can't blame nuclear power Blame the people that control the nuclear power You stop taking technology backwards And we're all gonna f*cking die We're all gonna die in some little bit of ground In the dirt, back to the land Back to the land, back to the grass Up your f*cking ass, wake up It's the 20th century, the 20th century Technology to protect people Technology to help people F*ck technology that destroys people Come on, wake up [?] I feel so [?] inside Working hard to never [?]
Best band from 1980 to 85 easy. People need to introduce themselves to Adrian borland n the sound otherwise they know shit all about post,-,punk. Facts
@@alexwalton593 what a fucking shame, its a crime that his live performances werent documented more, ian and especially borland are my motivators yet he didnt gain much attention for his work, just cant see how someone who i hold in such high esteem doesnt even have his most popular song recorded...a fucking shame
@@gabrielceballos8789 you have to remember that i cant escape myself is only the most popular now, its really just an album track and if you look at bootleg tracklists they hardly ever played it live. but yes i agree completely its a damn shame.
This is a great song by an amazing band, but it's also indisputable proof that fans of The Sound have great taste in music, but no sense of rhythm whatsoever.😂
@@agustinalejandrogerosa7069 lol , I love this music . All I said was that they were terrible on stage . I feel Spanish shame But if you listen to their recorded albums the music is excellent . Wipe the foam from your mouth
A tad harsh imo, remember this was 1982! We’re talking pre-MTV days here. Most live recordings from back then sound like total shit. This wasnt televised so its not broadcast quality video (as far as i know) so there's no line in. We're hearing the video pick up of the noise coming through stage monitors (i think). Also, its a festival: factor in they wouldn’t have had sound check beforehand cos there's multiple artists on the bill (I think Adrian was lucky to make it on stage at all, after a mix up with security over his backstage pass). Plus there’d be a sound engineer on the mixing desk who likely never worked with the band before (I stand to be corrected on this point though!) just like what happens at music festivals these days. 40 years later, sitting here streaming this on a mobile phone n listening w bluetooth headphones I reckon its incredible we can still enjoy the music and that moment in time with The Sound. All things considered I think they sound pretty damn good! 🙂
