David Draiman is the nicest guy ever. When I was 17, he dragged me through a crowd to sign autographs and gave me a big hug, looked me in the eye and appreciated me as a fan. Forever my hero
David is as much a gentleman as he is a rock star badass. Saw them in sturgis years back. They were supposed to headline while the scorpions(who at the time we're playing what was supposed to be their final concert) were the opener. David literally sat in the bus until the promoters changed the line up. The concert was delayed over an hour because of it. When disturbed finally got on stage David said there was no way in hell the scorpions were opening on their final concert. Respect.
He's sitting down brcause he had a high fever and the bsnd were afraid he'd pass out! It is even harder to sing sitting down!!! The auto tune they put in, against his wishes, kicks in on the with " songs that voices never share". Absolutely amazing performance!👏👍❤
It’s like a call to arms his voice wraps around you takes your entire attention then makes you want to fight for him, imagine this guy in charge of a army they would take over the world
@@Davesmusicreactions He WAS training to be a cantor by his grandfather as he is a Cantor and pretty high up in the ultra Jewish faith. Young Dave decided he wanted to make music and left training and grandpa was ticked and didn't speak with each and maybe still? Not sure on that part. But all metal heads are happy with young Dave's choice...and a pretty nice guy to boot.
David Draiman...a voice to die for. A powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to rasp/distortion and back on a dime. He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before.....just hauntingly beautiful tonal properties to it! An awesome talent and obvious training to deliver what he does!! Can sing like an angel or the devil ! Loved your reaction and your take on David's performance. Good job! Try "Deceiver", "The Night", "Indestructible", "The Light" and "Violence Fetish" by Disturbed too.
I had read a comment on another reviewer's page about this performance on Conan. The comment went something like, can you imagine being in the audience that night not knowing you were about to witness one of the greatest live performances in TV history. I just happened to be channel surfing when I clicked on Conan as he was just starting the introduction that night. During the performance I was almost brought to tears and covered in goosebumps.
Look I'm an oldie. I remember the first version. They are both good but music should tell a story and David Dorman tells a story like no other. Tremendous voice tremendous band.
For me, this is the best live performance, regardless of artist, of this song I've ever seen. He brings a gravitas to it that I've never heard in the song.
You guys should also react to the original version, written and performed by Simon and Garfunkel way back in the 1960s. It is much different from this angry version. It is soft, melodic, a bit sad with great harmony between their two voices. It is said that their original was a warning of things to come, but this version expresses rage that the warning was not heeded.
The band behind - Piano was their normal guitarist Dan Donegan. On percussion is their drummer Mike Wengran. On guitar is their normal bass player John Moyer. I haven't been able to find anything on the orchestra but you're right, they added so much to this performance. If you want to check out more Disturbed, I recommend Another Way to Die, Vengeful One, Asylum, Stricken, Inside the Fire, or Indestructible. I've been a fan of this band for 20 years and can't believe the level of success they've had over the last 4-5 years. Edit: They also have some other great covers if you want to ease into their normal style. Land of Confusion (Genesis cover), ISHFWILF (U2 cover), If I Ever Lose my Faith in You (Sting cover), and Shout 2000 (Tears for Fears cover) are all fantastic. They usually do one cover on each album. I'm sure I'm missing a couple, but those are off the top of my head.
His cover of "if I close my eyes forever" he did with lizzy hale is my favorite cover david has done. Although he was with his other hand Device, not Disturbed.
I love the facial expressions and reactions you guys gave this performance. I find myself holding my breath, break out in chills, then feel like I have a fever. EVERY TIME I hear this. WOW
He kicks ass with this song. And he nails it live. I got the chance to see Disturbed. Loved it. Loved them. And they know how to put on a show. His voice is amazing and I tear up everytime
Currently binge watching Reactions to this particular song and I am not disappointed. Besides being the best cover ever and endorsed by the original artists and the fact that David was quite ill and had to be seated (hard to sing in itself) singing, he is a trained cantor who is actually just a bloody lovely guy. Genuine and empathetic. The Disturbed absolutely knocked this out the park! They f'in rock!❤❤❤❤❤❤
What a great review! David is in my top 10 singers. He moves his vocals 2 octaves and slides in and out of a vocal fry so smoothly. Thanks for sharing guys, love your British accents too. 😁😁
This cover was nominated for Song of the year 2016 but David Bowie got the grammy posthumously RIP David Bowie .. anyways this man is pure talent everytime I hear this cover I get tears in my eyes not sure why guess music does that to people .. great reaction guys
This is my favorite version of their song on it. I even bought this music version for my iPad. I just love how those drums are clearly heard in this version. Thanks.
They autotuned his voice in a few spots due to him having the flu and if you watch his face very closely you can see he wasn't happy in the spots it was used and rumor is producers were made well aware of that after performance.
I think the auto-tune was applied post? From what I read, when David listened/watched this AFTER the performance, he was pretty ticked off as he had TOLD them in advance not to use auto-tune, he'd rather be true and take the chance on making those notes even when sick. They didn't listen and applied it anyway. Regardless, amazing control shown here.
God asked him if he wanted the voice of an angel or a demon and David said "Yes." He was livid with the autotune and it was done without his consent. You should listen to Down With the Sickness, The Light, Through the Fire, Hold on to Memories, and A Reason to Fight; these are all great songs. They have also recently released a cover of Sting's If I Ever Lose my Faith in You which the sound amazing on.
A baritone can't typically sing in 3 different octaves. He's not a pure baritone. He has baritone elements sure, and I think he was classically trained as a baritone to begin with, but he made some vocal choices in there like in the 3rd verse where he went up an octave the first time that make me feel like he's got more technique in his repertoire than just what his classical training taught him.
Hello from Hamburg Germany, I grow up with the original Simon&, Garfunkel 🥰👍🏼 The Day I hear this Version 😱 oh my gosh...there was so much memories in my Head🥰🤘🏼
You guys are a joy to listen to. David is a gift to us. Truly an otherworldly talent. I love Disturbed. Try "Hold Onto Memories", please. It's another gem from Disturbed! You'll be tearing up, I guarantee it!
His being ill was apparently why he sat his butt down the whole time. They were afraid he'd collapse if he stood. He had a fever of 104 or something like that. As for the autotune, I think it was only a few notes out of the whole song. They added the enhancement against his will and he was pissed.
hi boys this is not disturbed normal sound this is just a cover .. lol love it but check out there other stuff try DOWN WITH THE SICKNESS or STRICKEN !!!!!!
David trained as baritone in opera singing, he had professional training and imo he has one of the purest voices ever! Love this performance and this cover. Also love your reactions, subscribing! 🙃
David had spent the previous evening and night due to dehydration caused by the flu. The producers did use auto tone for this performance. He wasn't happy about it cause he doesn't like it.
I would love to see a duet with garfunkel.. I would put the disturbed singing within the same context as meatloaf to a point he would have a tonal range to go up against a male opera singer..
Loved your reaction.. I had never heard of him before till 6 weeks ago and cos I was in the rabbit hole with Angelina Jordan since Aug 14 and after seeing VR reacting to this song and only my curiosity finally said ok thinking one time is all I would listen to...not...been in their rabbit hole also...20 yrs they've been around...duh..where have I been...I am 67 but this means nothing...I know about peace n love...and the power of music...however Disturbed was the 3rd artist I met in the rabbit hole...the 2nd was RagnBoneMan ...n like the 3rd artist it was my curiosity after seeing VR's roll by many times reacting to RagnBoneMan "Human" and had never heard of them...after listening to the song I was so in hopes they had more...so I go to Google them...OMG...they had years of music...my 2nd song to listen to was "Skin"...and after that song...I was mesmerized...his voice powerful, but the lyrics to every song...and I listened non stop for hours...PLEASE react to Skin, Human, Bitter End, Life in her Yet, Giant, He'll Yeah, Wolves... and the list goes on...your fans will love you if they never heard of...Angelina Jordan being the 1st artist that ever shell shocked me and my first ever to be drawn into a rabbit hole that has become a palace to me...I never would have have thought that I would experience what I have thru these 3 artists and can't wait to discover others in the palace of the rabbit hole...just sharing...just sayin...trust me...happy day... @@Davesmusicreactions "BAM"... thank you for shouting back by at me.. and so soon...I knew I was right about you two...sweet...since August I have played a multitude of reactions... I commented to only a handful...SINCERITY means that the "Appearance and the Reality are EXACTLY the same...it was not so much your words...I could see your spirit's auro, it spoke volumes for it was reflected in your countenance...did me too.. and All I have seen react to this song version. The writer of this song Paul Simon after he first heard this and it was the live on Conan 2016 version, contacted David Draiman of Disturbed and said lit was the best cover he had ever heard...you can Google his reaction you tube given by them.. back at you.. keep looking up... My interpretation of this song is when something traumatic happens and you witness a horrific thing, but your mind kind of disconnects and you literally hear the sound of silence.
Check out the band 'Shinedown' and their covers of 'Simple Man' and '45'. If you appreciate good vocals, you'll absolutely love Shinedown's lead singer Brent Smith.
I saw them perform this live at ACL in Austin in 2018. They’re such a good band. (Not gonna lie though, I was there for Metallica, but Disturbed was fantastic.)
First, I think this version is awesome. When I listen to the lyrics, I think of the Internet. People talking, without speaking. People hearing without listening ... Like right now. With the sound of silence.
Please react to another official live video of a song Disturbed did to advocate the prevention of drug abuse, depression and suicide. " A Reason to Fight" to see the affect it has on their fans at the concerts. It will truly bring tears to your eyes. Such a wonderful band using their fame to make people aware of the huge problem we have and to give people hope.
Great reaction! Loved watching your faces as the strong parts of the song played out. Good pauses... I know about the copyright rule for youtubers so the pausing doesn't bother me so much if it's not done too much. But this was still genuine feeling reaction and I really enjoyed it!
This has become a standard for the band, always expected at their live gigs! David and his brother were classically trained singers. He turned to metal and his brother is an opera singer. Paul Simon said he wrote this after a dream and the meaning is still argued about. The video I feel talks of the rediscovery of lost music. One island find the sheet music, the other find the instruments and travel to them... Paul Simon saw THIS very performance on Conan and loved it... A lot of people get it wrong about the auto tune. David needs none even sick lol. And the performance was done without it but like most TV shows in post they automatically add it. Such a shame, although you don't hear it kick in a lot on his voice.
You should check out official music videos of 'Down with the Sickness' and 'Stupify' (one of my favorites) from their first album and also 'Stricken' (also one of my favorites). Heavy rock/metal, but so f-ing worth it. :)
Silly question, from a HUGE fan from Georgia, USA! Where y'all from? Hubby and I are "disagreeing", lol! (But, I'm sure I'm right!😉) Whatever, WHERE EVER, we luv y'all!
Yes David Draiman had the flu when he did this n he hates this one! And yes he was classically trained in opera in the past...BUT this is my favorite ONE!!! Paul Simon saw it or heard it and cried and said it was meant for Disturbed and David to sing!!🌹🌹
Autotune only kicks in when it detects you wavering from the correct note. It only seems to kick in on a couple of the high notes! I only heard it 2 times and just for a few seconds!
Bullshit on the pausing because copyright…literally 100s of reaction vids WITHOUT a single pause that disrespects this artist. Going to find one now 👋🏻
