I'm curious as to how many recordings you have of Harrisburg, PA. There's a lot of bell relics around here. From buildings with Bell still on the deed to the manhole covers. The bell building is still listed under "Bell Atlantic of Pennsylvania" on the property owner.
There are no on-the-ground recordings of Harrisburg, sorry. We probably called into Harrisburg 3 times from NYC so there's probably an original ring tone from there on tape somewhere. And of course I have several incarnations of the "7172" recording from the 4A switch.
Downtown Pittsburgh is the same way. A few years back I did some manhole work outside of the now Verizon building which in the 1970s housed the 4A that evans call routed through. Along with the international switching system equipment as well. The old manhole lids all are bell and the manholes themselves could house 10 city buses side by side they are so big. Also the sheer amount of old bell coaxal cables and twisted copper "wire trunks" still there is impressive. I cant find the picture that I took but one of the old twisted copper cables was bigger around than your fist, and there were several of them. Makes you laugh because the fiber we were pulling through those man holes were only as big as your pinky finger and could handle 1000s or more calls than the old stuff. A few coworkers of mine have worked in Manhattan and they say Pittsburgh is nothing compared the big apple. Maybe one day ill do the same if the money is right.
