My great-grandfather was born in 1919 and passed away in 2012. He lived through the birth of the Soviet Union, the death of Lenin, the reign of Stalin, the Second World War, Malenkov's incompetence, Khrushchev's de-Stalinization, Brezhnev's stagnation, Andropov and Chernenko dying, and Gorbachev's Perestroika, Glasnost, and Demokratiya. He also lived through the fall of the Soviet Union, Yeltsin's oligarchy, and even the rise of Putin. He moved to the United States in 2002, and I only got to know him during the last ten years of his life.

Note: While these were all leaders of the Soviet Union, Gorbachev was the only one known as the president. The other seven were either General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union or Premier of the Soviet Union

My Grandpa loved Gorbachev so much, that he wrote a song about him, wherein he said he was the best Soviet Leader and that everyone should be like him. Because out of all Soviet Leaders, despite the good they may have done, they only cared about themselves. Gorbachev was selfless. He only cared about his own people.

The way Chernenko speaks feels really strange to me. After all, he was, as my grandpa described him: "a walking corpse." And my grandpa was a nominal member of the Communist Party from 1977 until 1997. He left the party just before he left Belarus, which is where he lived. My great-grandfather, however, was a member of the Communist Party from 1948 until 1992. He was a member of the Party under Stalin, and he left it just after the Soviet Union collapsed.

There was only ever one president of the Soviet Union, and that was Gorbachev. Lenin, Stalin, Malenkov, Khrushchev, Brezhnev, Adropov, and Chernenko never were presidents. They were General Secretaries, and in the cases of Lenin, Malenkov, and Khrushchev, they were simply the leaders of the country.

Why is this video the only one where I hear Stalin's Georgian accent? In every other video I've watched of him, his accent was always untraceable. Not in 1935, when he said: "Life has become better comrades. Life has become happier." Not in 1941, when he said: "I greet you and congratulate you with the 24th anniversary of the great October Socialist Revolution." Not in 1945, when he said: "The day of victory is upon us." I never knew what accent Stalin had until now, when I heard his voice in better quality than ever before. Now it is clear that his Russian has a heavy Georgian accent.

The best Soviet Leader was not only the last one, but the only good one. Lenin was a hypocrite, Stalin was a monster, Malenkov was incompetent, Khrushchev was a tyrant, Brezhnev was a bigot, Andropov was a person who wanted to ban the growing of grapes, Chernenko was in power for only thirteen months. None of them did anything to change the Soviet Union into what it needed to be. None of them made the Republics truly free. None of them recognized change in Eastern Europe. None of them were people who understood what needed to be done. Mikhail Gorbachev was a saint. His miracles included Perestroika, Glasnost, and Demokratizatsiya, all of which revealed to the people what the Soviet Union was. My parents were brainwashed by Brezhnev and Andropov. My grandparents were born under Stalin. They only learned the truth thanks to Gorbachev. It was inevitable that the Soviet Union would have fallen. Gorbachev simply realized this. In pace requiescat.

Lenin: Stalin is too rude. This defect becomes intolerable in a General Secretary. Stalin: I am a god, you dull creature! Malenkov: The greatest genius in all of history left us to complete his great work. Khrushchev: You are a lawyer for Capitalism, and I'm a lawyer for Communism... Brezhnev: So let's kiss! Andropov: In order to fight against alcoholism, I will ban the growing of grapes. Chernenko: I'm nothing more than a walking corpse. Gorbachev: Due to the situation... I must end my duties as president of the USSR. Yeltsin: Spasibo, Gorbi! We owe you one!
