They killed my beautiful daughter Brishell and I'm forever traumatized. My father died before we went to trial. These individuals took my only child, father and future generations from me because I'll never become a grandmother. Thank you for covering this story. 2 years this February 17, I lost my son to Gun Violence, 2 of his friends set him up and killed him,my heart still hasn’t healed. 2 years and I don’t know how to pick up the pieces to my broken heart. I struggle so much, with the thought of never seeing my son again. Every day I look to the sky, in hopes that he can live vicariously through me. My tears still run like a River, thinking of the memories that we will never create together again. I pray that my son is waiting at the gates for me! We will meet again.. I was cool with William Jones Pops. We was in the streets together at the time. I helped pay for his funeral. Shit was a damn shame an Them boys was some crash dummies. I spoke to Nathaniel Simms before he was sentenced. It was hard but I wanted him to see what and who he took from me!!!! He's in witness protection which I didn't even know was a thing for prisoners. I learned a great deal having my only child slaughtered. The most important thing I learned is say it now not later because later may not come. Do it now because the next moment may never come. I had to do my Bri Bri's hair and makeup for her funeral NOT her prom or wedding. I'm crying so much now I cannot hardly breathe.

Some of the details aren’t true but thanks for covering our story and keeping my sister name alive. It’s been 13 years and I hate reliving this moment.

Im only 21 so I was about 8 when it went down but i definitely remember how deadly and vicious the streets of southeast were at this time every evening on the 5pm or 9pm news it would be deadly shootings all over pg county/southeast and northeast dc times haven’t changed to much either southside still going hard.

No matter how painful it may be and how tragic it was, they deserve to have a 🕯️ burning bright in their name. Such evil exists among us. That bracelet didn't matter to him or his crew. They were waitin for any excuse to go crazy on the community. Any excuse gives these type of people a "reason". A "reason" in their sick minds keeps them from feeling guilty... it's the principal. There's never an excuse to take a life unless it's self defense. Prayers for the families of the victims, and for the families of the suspects that are left wondering how such dark evil could be in their family.

I went to PR Harris with 3 of the suspects and one of my best friends was of the 5 victims William Henry Jones aka Marley. I remember all the details as if it happened yesterday 🤦🏾‍♂️ may the 5 souls continue to rest peacefully.

As a DC native and someone who has had many loved ones lost to fun violence this one will always hit differently. I'm a friend of Brishelle's Mother and let me tell you she is a true warrior woman. So tragic that it turned out like this due to a thief and lack of good sense's over ego and a fake diamond bracelet. I remember this like it was yesterday. I also remember The Washington Post has a recording of the car chase that ensued. The chase went into PG County. The radio dispatch person was awesome. They arrested a 14 yr old, because when the foot chase began, the police ran into the Rec Center thinking one of the suspect went into the building, and Shorty put his hands up. When he put his hands up, he was accused of being one of the suspects. Unfortunately, it took a few days to clear his name which was shameful. The didn't get what they deserved...

Such a shame innocent people have to die over some reckless thugs. It seem like to me had it been $10 stolen it was going to be a mass murder , it really didn’t matter to these two these thugs. Rest in peace to the victims those in my condolences to the families.

Southeast DC....WAS......one of the most violent sections in my city.....But no more, not in 2023....The gun violence has spread in all sections of DC right now.....Young teens with guns who shoot at any time of day, in any areas.....even in the heavily gentrified white areas such as Adams Morgan......I feel that it is more dangerous in DC right now than it has ever been, in terms of the random gun fire at all times of the day and night....and I've lived here all of my 60 years (BTW, the most deadly time to live in DC was the early 1990s...DC was labeled at one time, the 'murder capital of the US' back then....crack and drug lords and random murders galore infested the city.....but that's a different story you might tell in another episode).

They were eagerly helped, even murdering a 17 year old that wasn't involved because they wanted to rob him of his gun! Not a single one cared a jot about the people they targeted. The reason for the FBI Serious Crime Statistics showing so many Black people being responsible for so many murders and other serious felonies may be seen in this one group of murderers! Every one of them too cowardly to meet someone face to face, only feeling brave when gunning down innocent unarmed and defenceless people. The greatest threat to Black people comes from other Black people is what the FBI Statistics showed, and that hasn't changed. It has been repeatedly said that Black communities shun police investigations, protecting those that murder in that community from prosecution.

I read that 14-year-old, who was arrested during the chase, was on the run from a juvenile center or camp and thought the cops were after him for that. Well-put-together piece on such an atrocity.
