I heard the Spinners tell this story by Pete Seeger, when I was a student in Yorkshire (1960s) Later I adapted the story for school-children. I was performing my version in Warrington and afterwards a tall silver-headed gentleman asked where I had heard it . I said it was from my folk heroes, The Spinners. He said, "Well we never told it that way but I like your version." Only then I realised I had been entertaining Tony Davis, the Spinners banjo and whistle player. Thanks for the memory.
A piece of music reminded me of this song which I knew from my childhood, and I came online to search for it. So lovely to hear it again after decades!!!
Weird... I start humming this song a month ago not sure if I'd got it right, then I accidentally find this - Wow...! After well over 30 years I'm 6 again... Thank you..
