Im a black south african and I HAVE to take my hat off for my other Black sisters and brothers in America for pure talent..Your music never dissapoints
gadd, what a great group ... such creativity, subtlety, expressiveness, harmony ... Detroit was the capital of everything cool in America in the 1960's and 70's.
As a blond-haired white kid born in 1964, in retrospect one of the best things that happened to me was having a dad who was in the Navy and was exposed to lots of different music. I grew up listening to 8 track tapes my dad had like the Spinners, Booker T and MGs, etc.. This is good stuff.
Young brothers wanting to play music, take note! These guys worked their asses off and their music has lasted AND GROWN IN popularity over the last four decades. True grit, true work, true sweat, true soul. Long after hip-hop is forgotten, someone will be listening to The Spinners. Just a thought.
Todays talent is found in a mascara bottle, a clothing rack and AUTO TUNES program. As observed by Robin Thicke losing the court case for his " Blurred Lines " blatant ripoff of Marvin Gayes " Gotta give It up", originality has lost its way. The age of the sample and steal is alive. When will we find real music again?
1mikera Please check out my rendition of a great Leon Russell piece made most popular by George Benson, by searching "Mike sings This Masqurade", and tell me what you think. Thanks
What a joy to watch them perform. They looked they were just totally into the moment, watching over ten years of sweat and labor finally pay off. The Spinners were a great part of music in my growing up years.
Ahhhhhh...... the good old days when live versions sounded as good or better than the recordings! No auto tune, no lip sync, no tracks - just pure talent!
Yeah, I'm only 29 and my Dad exposed me a lot to this music which is what I mostly listen to. Life was also a lot tougher to with politics and the Vietnam War.
I love this video. They switched it to an entirely different arrangement by the end of the song. The crowd was into it, it was just perfect. I like this over the album or any other live version I have heard.
I agree - it was nice to seem them with an actual live show, too. Many of their videos on the internet seem to be lip-syncing for big television shows back in the day.
On this day in 1973 {February 25th} "Could It Be I'm Falling In Love" by the Spinners peaked at #4 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; it had entered the chart on December 24th, 1972 at position #79 and spent 15 weeks on the Top 100 {and for 6 of those 15 weeks it was on the Top 10}... And on February 4th, 1973 it reached #1 {for 1 week} on Billboard's R&B Singles chart... Between 1961 and 1995 the group had twenty-nine records on the Top 100; with six making the Top 10 and two reaching #2, the two #2s were "The Rubberband Man" {for 3 weeks in 1976} and "Working My Way Back To You/Forgive Me, Girl" {for 2 weeks in 1980}...
A celebration of new-found love supported by confident, focused choreography. Beats so many acts today who get sloppy or flame out under the influence.
most of the musical acts today dont do it for the love of music and it shows in their performance and choice of material. Thats why they BURN OUT so quick and leave a legacy of nothing
In Arica .. Chile I was 13 years old..Remember taking class at school up to 6 pm.. going home dancing this song , what a lovely memories of my youth! I wanna die now!
I understand why you have such admiration for The Spinners, one of my all-time favs having grown up outside Detroit, but bro, there's no need to compare these classic artists, they are all great in their own right. Lets just say The Spinners are your favorite and a lot of people would agree, but lets not get into who's better, that's like comparing the Stones and the Beatles, why do that, they are all different and ALL great. Same thing here they are all great and yes the Spinners are one of the greatest, good vid, keep em' coming.
Can't believe they aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame and they never won a Grammy. They've been together for 60 years. They sang everything. Great music. They're in my Hall of Fame !!!
PHLIPPIE WINN DIED ON STAGE WHEN HE WAS WITH THE FUNK ADELIC BAND HE HAD A MASSIVE HEART ATTACK BUT MAN OH MAN COULD HE SING, I USED TO LOVE THE SPINNERS THEY WERE GREAT IN THE 70'S, ALL THERE MUSIC WAS GREAT AND I LOVED THE SONG "GAME'S PEOPLE PLAY" THAT SONG WAS THE BOMB. 👍👍👍🗯🗯🗯
What an example of black BEING beautiful IT doesn’t get a whole lot better than the spinners we love these guys back here in California. Mesa thank you so much my friends who love the spinners thank you
What a beautiful beautifully written song and handed to the Spinners to present it to the world.. ya’ll remember Flag Brothers, them 7 soles and 9 hills, Afros, 3 piece suits, you had to come out with to get in the clubs, rum And coke my my. Beautiful ladies and great music. Let’s go back for just a second. LB Boomer Sooner August 12, 2024 Monday 12:02am
I was a white kid growing up in Indiana listening to this! There was racial tension, and I hadn't a clue why? I just loved the music and didn't care what color skin you had when singing it! Just bring it! Now going over to find games people play! I always loved singing the high parts! LOL
"there was racial tension".... No, there was racial tension on the news, in reality most people (99%) live and let live and don't care if others are different or live different. The news would have you believe everybody was out to kill each other though.
What great recording. It should be encased with gold. Think about the tops, temps and the spinners (my favourite) these guys did these type of gigs day in day out and all were missed if you weren't there. Just brilliant!
The notion of one falling in Love is a beautiful situation. Seems like now Love is sit three shelves down. Materialistic items as well as an opportunistic approach are placed at eye level. If you didn't have feelings for the person but now have feelings after they have purchased a few thousand of dollars' worth of merchandise and followed you around like a homeless person; are you in Love or observing and opportunity that can be exploited? IMJ Beautiful song but the meaning has been watered down in this day and time.
@2009Denisem you are so right, My mother died of cancer in 1978 when I was 13, this was one of her favorit songs, everytime I hear this music it brings back good memorys
Most started out as street corner singers, the collaboration, and the range in their voices unbelievable with NO instruments, even better with instruments!!!
I enjoy all the sweet soul groups of the 70s, Blue Magic, The Delfonics, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, The Moments, The Intruders, Four Tops, The OJays, The Stylistics, The ChiLites, The Dramatics, The Manhattans, but something is special about The Spinners. They had a down to earth quality that just grabs you. They seem very appreciative of their fans too. They weren't just on stage showing off. They struggled for years before they hit it big, so they definitely had humility for their success
F Ferguson, MO, This is what SOUL is all about! Not a bunch of racial tension. Just listen to this and other Classic Soul Music and the tension will subside.
The wonderful soul music that blacks have contributed to american society. We black folks have made some of the best if not the best american muisc ever. White folks dance to it everyday( R&B,blues,Jazz, motown, rock n roll, etc.) If black folks were never brought to america by white folks u never would have music like this and other wonderful contrubutions we have made. Im just saying something good came out of it, our music. I bet just as many white folks like this song as anybody else.
I love this song! This song always does something to my soul and the instrumental music break is awesome. Never forget listening to my dad's albums growing up. And along with the Temptations and O'Jays this was always one of the 8 tracks we listened to traveling down the road to see our family. Oh what a sense of nostalgia!! Can't wait to see their Unsung episode.
Wow... we have the same opinion. Actually, my 2 favorite vocals groups are the Dramatics and Spinners. Then Four tops, O'jay, and Temptations. Dramatics and Spinners hits of music were so unique.
