I choke up when I think of the courage of those pilots to fly down the throat of the enemy. Britain was on the back foot for much of the war - they were just trying to keep their countrymen safe from invasion. Must have been a scary time. 😬

@@snugglecity3500 I think of Spitfires being more for intercepting the enemy, while Hurricanes were tough in a dogfight, apparently able to take direct hits - but since their skin was made of linen and not metal, those things just kept on flying! 😆
@1rb1s_
@1rb1s_ 2 года назад
@@paulnortham it was actually quite the opposite. During the Battle of Britain, smth like 3 of 4 dogfights between Hurricanes and 109's ended with a loss for Hurricanes, while with Spitfires vs 109's it was a parity (with narrow advantage for Spitfires). So Hurricanes would usually go for the bombers while Spitfires would go for whatever was escorting them

That is perhaps the most realistic looking flight simulation for WW2 air to air combat that I have ever seen. Which is no small thing - as an aviation and history nut, I have seen a lot, plus a lot of the original footage from the time! A big "Thank you" and "Awesome job!" to Eagle Dynamics on this one! Nick Grey foreshadowed that this was coming in the interview that you did with him - and the results are absolutely fantastic. You two did a good job of showing the gunnery tactics and problems really well in your deflection shooting, and the damage models in the programming of this game are incredibly authentic and real looking. The small details like the flashes and shuddering of the aircraft when bullets and cannon shells hit was extraordinary. I reckon it might have been good enough for a veteran to nearly get PTSD just watching it!. Thanks for a really entertaining video - and keep up the good work! :-D

Was born in Britain and as a kid watch that movie Battle of Britain. You splashed those Dorniers nicely. One point of minor interest, the Spitfire had a small fuel tank between the engine and the pilot. This would mean that the pilot could be splash with burning avgas. Barrel rolls and back and forth jinking should help get gun solutions without helping the tail gunner by staying still. Any chance of the attackers using real (if only basic) tactics? Like bomb runs from different directions to foil AA gunners?

Squire taught me that a Hawker Hurricane is GOOD ENOUGH. Still, a Spitfire would be nice…

We need a BF110 or JU-87 now. Preferably both and would like the P-38.

The Spitfire despite its’ graceful appearance could absorb a surprising amount of battle damage.

I’ve never had a gaming computer, but I’ll specifically be building one soon just to download DCS! I love what your doin with the missions basing them on real historical events too! Will I be ok with a basic thrustmaster stick to get me started???

Good vid and team coordination. The only recommendation for fighting bombers would be more boom and zoom. Get speed for attacks so you can maintain energy and not come out like Swiss cheese 🧀.

Would love to see you flying this using an Authentikit Spitfire build and get your opinion if harder to fly that way or not
