The Splatoon 1 Direct Did NOT Age Well... 

Hey guys! In the video, I’d like to correct that when I said that splatoon 3 has no genders, it’s not entirely true (proven by some of the comments). I’d like to apologize for getting that wrong. But thank you for the support on this video!

3:36 Funny fact, in Splatoon 1, jump was actually the X button, not the B button, most likely because the right stick on the Wii U Gamepad was closest to the X button! In Splatoon 2 and the change in default controller, Jump was moved to the B button being closer to the stick and the map on the Gamepad was moved to the X button. Ah, the finer details.

There's something wholesome about the OG Splatoon 1 direct. This whole thing was such an original and strange concept that it's likely Nintendo didn't know how to sell it. Compare this to the trailers we see for Splatoon 2 and 3, it's very straight to the point.

back in splatoon 1, Blasters where classified as shooters and Brushes where classified as rollers Splatlings where free DLC And it took to splatoon 3 for us to get what I'd consider a subclass for chargers, stringers E-liter 3k is the 4k but with 15% more range... imagine that in splat 3... terrifying Bubbler was 7 seconds minus 1 second duration for each ally you chain to Burst Bomb also only consumed 25% ink on use, and you could get it down to 20% easily.instead of 45% we have now

This direct is nostalgic and it's the GOOD kind of cringe. Splatoon 1's servers have been down for 2 and a half months now, and I'm so glad I grinded the hell out of it last summer before splat 3 came out. I'm level 50 and I have every weapon and every piece of gear. Never got to S+ though

Small corrections : Brushes were rollers and blasters were shooters until splatoon 3 gave them their own classes Dynamo was absolutely BUSTED in S1 and is the reason of like half of the nerfs in the game its due to the fact it along with other rollers had no damage falloff meaning that any speck of ink shot from it would OS coupled to the fact that at launch it was a middleweight weapon made it SCARY

This is exactly why I like to joke that splatoon was the first and only time in my life I experienced love at first sight. Before the game released I saw the trailer for it and was absolutely captivated by it. I've never seen anything like it! Hell I hated shooters yet I immediately knew I HAD to play this game 8 years later this silly ass game is still my hyperfixation. The only shooter to grow up with me. I wouldn't want it any other way

I WAS on Team Cats. I’ve been playing Splatoon since the first Global Testfire on the WiiU. 😭 I remember hating how it looked at E3 when it was revealed and then slowly coming to love it and giving it a try in the Global Testfire

Looking back in this video kinda feels like a warm, sad, and nostalgic window into the past. Funnily enough, I remember Splatoon 1’s base filled up with a lot more squids with Miiverse posts compared to the DLC that was included in Splatoon 3. It feels kinda unfortunate how after being let loose in the Splatlands and seeing the vast plaza, Inkopolis Plaza seems so much smaller in comparison. Every future Splatoon installment isn’t going to be like the last, but there was something about 1 that understood it’s whole theme and feel, down to the advertising and Direct. As every next installment releases, there’s something about how the games present themselves as you growing up along with them. Splatoon 1 rocked my preteen years and 3 is absolutely amazing at my current age. Looking back it feels funnily strange, where you think to yourself “Huh, was it all really this silly?” As every installment continues to get more serious and bombastic with its theming. I still look back on Splatoon 1 as being a factor of my growth in entertainment, though there’ll never quite be a game that will match it’s thematics down to a T.

Gender wasn't never removed, just because it's not mentioned in the settings doesn't mean it's no longer a thing. (Japan still had gender in the settings) It's cool we can wear all types of clothes now.

I (kinda) remember this Splatoon direct a long time ago back in May 2015. The Splatoon direct was weird, but awesome at the same time! I had fond memories with Splatoon. I used to have a Wii-U back then to play these awesome Wii-U titles like Splatoon for a example (and others like New Super Mario Bros-U, Nintendoland, Pikmin 3, Rayman Legends, Skylanders Trap Team-Imaginators, Yoshi's Wooly World, Epic Mickey 2, and Super Smash Bros Wii-U for a example). But sadly though in October 2018, I sold my Wii-U for Xbox One X.

Man... It feels weird just *hearing* about this old Direct. Like, so much about the OG Splatoon felt like it was a fever dream. By the way, the clothing used by the official staff during the Global Testfire was purely cosmetic, just like the gear you could get from pre-ordering the game during the Global Testfire. Both gear sets could be found in the final game's files (after an update as initially both gear sets weren't present in the files) alongside early, rough/unfinished duplicates and completely unused gear. One of the interesting things about the Global Testfire itself is the fact no save data if created upon booting the demo (why would it be created in the first place, not like you gain any EXP or Money after a battle or that there's any data that could be transferred), as a result if the game is closed after the Global Testfire is finished for the day (or closed in general for any reason) the pre-purchase gear is lost, most likely forever unless stated otherwise, meaning if you came back for the remaining days to play some more you'd look like everyone else except those who work at Nintendo who would be wearing the special gear made for them. Sucks to be a rage-quiter during that event, huh?

they actually didnt get rid of genders in splatoon 3, i noticed the first hair picker was actually a unique gender chooser, because if u choosed the more female like hair u actually (if ur an octoling) get eyelashes, and well yes a bigger chest. squids dont have that but i think they do have a chest for the girls, while the boy octolings dont have chest or eyelashes. same with inkling boys but with chest, so no they didnt remove it

Both motion & stick controls were added to the game, however I'm sure Nintendo made it so that the game can introduce motion controls automatically to new players, thus the reason y alot of ppl consider it to b the way it shud b played.
