No matter where they come from, ALL soldiers are men. They are human. EVEN Germans. I have family that were in the fighting on the eastern front w/SS. I have family that were fighting in the US Army. BOTH sides lost family in the war. We ALL suffered

So where did that money come from? If he was a farmers help he could never have amassed 400,000€... Not to say everyone who was in the army was a monster but the SS units were not renowned for any chivalry... Most US vets I met shot them out of hand due to their actions..

The German soldiers does not "represent" anybody. They represent themselves. To demonise the WWII german soldiers is really too much. They simply serve their country, and many of them by conscription, obligatory The soldiers deserves respect.

Many crimes was committed- yes. No doubt. By all sides, actually. But the whole German army was not a bunch of criminals. The soldiers execute orders, like any other army in the world do- there is no "moral" in one war.The total casualties of the German army in the WWII was about 3 fold lower than the Red Army's casualties - this means already much. The exemplary bravery of the soldiers like Otto Skorzeny or Leon Degrelle, or Sepp Dietrich is just a soldier's bravery, and he is not a political issue at all.The German soldiers fight for their country, like they understand this, in those troubled years. They do not hide in the Bahamas, like some royals do. Or go to Palestine, Lebanon or Iran to be in safe places, like the most rich Europeans do then. Or close themselves in Switzerland, by the phrase "The boat is full" [ actually, not so "full", if you have enough money in their banks]. The today German polit-correctness and fervent desire not to be connected to the country's past, is just too much false to be taken for true. DW- tomorrow, you will not able to find soldiers to defend your country, if you continue in this style of "generalizations".

@Heather Larson They have been "trained" and "socialized" both by family and by country (not to mention their former enemies) to do so.

It's obviously never explained why a country in which Jews were very integrated and largely Conservative took to becoming highly anti-Semitic in the short space of time between 1917 and 1933.
