As an OKC native I think it would have been fitting to add in OU's stadiums to the mix. Even though they're in Norman, the two cities are very interconnected and I would argue that Norman is just another larger sub-community of OKC, much like Edmond and UCO. I've personally commuted from OKC to Norman multiple times a week for school, and it didn't feel like I was switching cities. Great video still- I was especially shocked when I saw my highschool football "stadium", I would have never imagined the Broncos would earn a spot on this list.
As an Oklahaoman, Bricktown got its name due to the vast amount of brick making factories that dotted the land before. It underwent a radical transformation with the addition of a canal in what is now known as the current Bricktown today. A lot of businesses actually still use the old factories, it’s actually a really cool little place!
Really love this series you're doing. All of the videos have been great so far. Also just wanted to say that Miami/South Florida have some great stadiums and arenas.
Taft stadium- There use to a professional football team during the 70s named the Wranglers. I know I saw at least one game. Before my family moved to the PC school district, I lived in house where if I went out to the middle of the street- I could see the TAFT sign straight ahead. I still use that sign to turn if I want to see my old house. Cecil Semara (long time OU fan) lived on the same street. I think during the 90s Grambling came to town and played Langston there( not 100% sure on that one).
Vastly more people from OKC will go the the OU stadiums/arenas in Norman than the ones in Edmond, it is barely any travel time difference, and both Edmond and Norman are in the OKC metro.
You did mustang (a suburb) yet you didn’t include Gaylord memorial stadium (where the university of OK football teams plays), in Norman, just outside Okc. This stadium is one of the top 20 largest in the world seating 84,489 people.
I been inside the mustang basketball stadium because of a winter basketball tournament… and the okc fairground stadium for high school basketball state… and a couple more locations
Actually, the Seattle Supersonics were basically kicked out of the city - Seattle, that is. After they'd been sold to the team's current ownership group, the new owners demanded the City of Seattle build them their own pleasure palace of an arena that they (the club's owners) wouldn't contribute any money toward its construction, but would receive all revenues from - or else. Seattle has a long history of teams making similar threats, so the City told them to kick rocks, which was exactly what Clayboy Bennett wanted, and he quite happily took his toy to OKC, where he'd already had a deal in place for that pleasure palace he wanted.
The Thunder's Josh Giddey has a sister who plays basketball at SNU. Pretty weird for two Australians to end up here in Oklahoma but still cool regardlessl
Their minor league team is owned by the LA dodgers, so the team was called the OKC dodgers, idk if the dodgers stoped ownership last year or something but they are trying to get a new name. The OKC thunder are also getting a new arena and it will be in the place of prairie surfs
That’s not even close to what happened the dodgers are still very much the parent team and that’s not changing the name changing is becus “We didn’t want to be called the dodgers” & OKC baseball club is only temporary till we get a official name & if u look on the jerseys on the sleeves still has that LA dodgers logo
@@zachariahshort6546lolol. The distance from OKC to Edmond and OKC to Norman is essentially the same. Also, a large part of OKC is located in the same county as Norman. Norman stadiums should have been included in the video since Edmond was.
Well. Baseball is also really big in Japan, Venezuela, Mexico, and several Carribean islands. Soooo... Sorta Not only America. But nice joke though. Ha ha ha ha.
hopefully they go back to red endzones. and looks like they finally flipped the logo to face the home side since ive been there. was facing the away side (old home) for years after the current home stands were built.
Bricktown is a cool neighborhood in OKC. As he said nearly every building is made of brick including the McDonald's in the neighborhood plus it has a canal and lots of shops and restaurants
I live about a mile away from the Jim Norick Arena and can personally attest that it hasn’t been demolished yet. (I drove past it just yesterday.) BTW it was recently announced that its replacement will be named the OG&E Coliseum.
Awesome video thank you for showing love to Okc!! And for putting my alma mater edmond north in the video lol. But I’m not sure if they fit your criteria or not but all 3 edmond schools have large football stadiums about the same size as mustangs.
From what I've heard, it isn't called "Newcastle" because the baseball team didn't want to be associated with a casino or gambling, not so much the town of Newcastle. The same thing would have happened if they tried to call it something like "River Wind" which is another nearby casino.
Seems like was posted around the time it was announced that two of the LA Olympic games will be in OKC, Softball and Canoe Slalom. If it were chosen for any other reason would be one hell of a coincidence.
