'Sweet, Sweet Spirit' was Elvis Presley's favorite Gospel song. The legendary Stamps Quartet performed this song in concert with Elvis countless times. Today, the group is back in the recording studio performing this timeless hymn.
I was in the Stamps (bass) in 2008. We did this song often. I had a young daughter at the time and was commuting from Tabor City NC to Nashville (where Ed lives ) and ultimately had to leave the group, but to be able to take the place of JD , one of my heroes...that's a high point for me. Glad Ed and Co. Are still doing the thing! Sound great!
Ed Enoch o nome dele, ele ainda continua sendo membro dos Stamps quartet. O sogro dele era o J.D. Sumner, fundador do grupo e dono da voz mais grave que possuía.
Just listened to this song again, and whoever sings bass rattled my teeth! JD Sumner had big shoes to fill, but major snaps for this talented gentleman. Wow.
Buck had an incredible tenor voice. I was blessed to meet him at Paul Lichter’s Elvis Convention in New York in 1978. He spent a lot of time talking with me after their concert about Elvis and about music. Nobody else would have taken the time to hang out with an 18 year old, but Buck did. He was one of the kindest, and most talented, men I’ve ever met. I loved to hear him sing Walk With Me.
Einfach genial ! Im Elvis Musical haben die hervorragend gesungen, tolle Stimmen. Da können sich unsere sogenannten Schlagerstars einmal eine Scheibe abschneiden.
Always one of my favorite hymns to sing through the years. Ed, I honestly thought the original cut of this by the Stamps (at that time) couldn't be outdone. But God just moved on that one! Thank you!!!
I remember when he was with the old Stamps Quartet. Ed sung baritone. Bill Baize tenor, Donny Sumner lead, Ed Baritone and J.D. Sumner bass and later on also with Richard Sterban. This was the group that backed up Elvis Presley after the Jordanaires.
It looks effortless for that bass. I figure it was a studio recording sing over for video purpose, since there was no microphones. Plus, basses that low is all natural and you cannot obtain through voice lessons. It's just a gift. Maybe the beard helps. :)
Ed is the only one I recognize. I miss JD and all the Stamps and Masters V. Those men would be glad for anyone still doing four part harmony and sounding good. Ed , hope you still have a group out there.
I strongly believe that religion in all of its forms is a poison to be avoided, however, I do appreciate Sweet, Sweet Spirit when sung by The Stamps. Nothing to do with the message... everything to do with the voices.
@@morriswilburn9858 Sorry ,Marra, but you live in cuckooland!...no offence to the Cuckoo's ,mind! Maybe you have good intentions,as have all religious people,it's your duty to be "Fishers of Men"...but I wonder why a truly loving God only wanted Men?!!!!....all the way through that book,Men dominate..and the only famous?.[!!]..Women was Mary Magdalene....who was of dubious character...to say the least!! I am also not religious, nor do I have a God of some sort...Where was God in all of the Natural Disasters in this World..the Tsunami's,Floods,Hurricane's,Volcano's,Drought's,Diseases.....come on...give us your usual excuses for believing in a fairytale!! I'll tell you what you don't want to hear...Jesus did walk this Earth, and he WAS a good bloke...ALIEN to this earth, from a far off land..[Enoch?],AND he healed the sick,WITH ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY AND MEDICATION,which the peasants of the time thought were miracles...naturally!!...yep,Marra,Jesus was from another Planet, and I do believe he will return,it's just a matter of time, and our Earthly year might only be a couple of hours to Him...travelling at Hyperspeed...Hmm....nuts aam I?...at least I don't believe that Woman was made from the rib of Man...there we go again ...MAN!...why wasn't a Man made from a Woman..?....and do you really believe Angels fluttered down from the sky ....ALL MEN AGAIN!!..with silky dresses....AND....wait for it.....!!.......FEATHERY WINGS...!! What I want to know is,who makes the dresses ,and who glues the wings on,is it an Industry up in Heaven.....? The more we ask questions, the more ridiculous the whole charade is....meanwhile,back at the Vatican.....certain People get richer....and richer...while the followers ,in a lot of cases, get poorer and poorer! I was brought up in a village where there were lots of Catholic families...BIG families....Mother could hardly afford to feed and clothe her offspring...did Priest care?...big house, car, smoking cigars, taking Dad's wages..scaring little school pupils to death by having a morning assembly, and quizzing those who hadn't attended Mass on the Sunday...no..no...the kids weren't allowed to even be feeling ill...they Had to attend! Strikes me they were guilty of a lot more Sins than are currently being exposed in recent times! Ry Cooder hits the nail on the head with "How can a poor man stand such times, and live"..!! Rant over! I just can't STAND anybody dictating to other's about who or what they should believe in! Live and let live,do your thing and leave others alone to do theirs!! FINALLY,I am in full agreement with AKI WAYNE,in that the Stamps do a really beautiful rendition of this song..nowt ti dae wi religion....just the VOICES!!
Morris Wilburn,we have a saying.."Ignorance is bliss",and since reading the rest of the comments on here,it occurred to me that you might be one of the Stamps Quartet singing here, and if that is so,then I applaud you for your great performance, whichever one you might be!....see?...thi ignorance lies with me,cos while I love the song, and the way that it is sung,I am ignorant of who the members are,and of who sings what line!!..collectively...they are beautiful to hear! But I do not apologise for the rest of my seemingly scathing[!] comments,of which I have tried not to be derogatory in any way,I have just expressed my opinion about religion,in response to your forceful comment, saying EVERYBODY is religious!! Cheers Marra!
