The Stanford Prison Experiment: A Carefully Orchestrated Lie

Nothing surprises me more than the fact that there are people out there who still believe in the conclusions of The Stanford Prison Experiment.
This is something that deeply hurts my soul. The Stanford Prison Experiment is nothing but a lie and its lead "scientist" Philip Zimbardo was a fraud... who was later rewarded for his fraud by being elected President of the American Psychological Association (APA) in 2002. This is the story of how Philip Zimbardo duped the entire world and how he got away with it.

I remember learning about zimbardo in high school. The experiment always seemed suspicious to me and the part about John Wayne being a drama student is pretty damning. Great insight on a topic I thought I’d learned everything about. Also I think just the fact that sometimes society has great and honest leaders is proof enough that power does not corrupt everybody.

Thank you for the kind words. I’m glad the video offered new insights. It's unfortunate how a seductive lie can be much more powerful than scientific fact and research, but yea... it is what it is I suppose.

Very intriguing. Even at the college level, this experiment is taken as science. We had almost 2 whole lectures about it, but nothing about the bias or failure to release a peer-reviewed study for years.

Omg! Thank you for mentioning this. This is the reason why I made this video… because this experiment is taken as science and taught as fact - even at college level where you would expect better. It is truly baffling, especially when we have a more recent prison experiment from 2002 that’s a much better designed experiment and contradicts all of the Stanford Prison Experiment’s findings. Funnily enough… Zimbardo would be elected as President of the American Psychological Association (APA) in 2002. The irony…

I’m a senior in high school taking sociology rn. When my teacher was talking about the stanford prison experiment it didn’t really make sense to me how it escalated THAT fast during those 6 days. Not saying some cruel stuff didn’t happen but this puts the whole thing into more perspective

I'm glad the video was able to add some perspective. I do think it's a shame that they sometimes teach certain topics too superficially at school and don't really take the time to analyse things more critically.

The official film adaptation of Zimbardo's book The Lucifer Effect, titled The Standford Prison Experience, was more focused on the inherent flaws and ethical problems with Zimbardo's experiment. The movie was also, from my point of view, damning indictment of Zimbardo as the experimenter even though the movie was executive produced by himself. It portrayed Zimbardo as the power that corrupts everything he touches.

Seems pretty fair to be honest. I think it is a shame though that Zimbardo's academic career was seemingly unaffected by any of this criticism. In 2002, for example, he would be elected as president of the American Psychological Association (APA).

@@NeuroEverything Also, how long, generally speaking, do you think before we can increase out intelligence via brain implants? I'd be willing to eventually get one. As long as they've worked out how it functions without causing injury.
