Following on from our action compilation video of the 9F class, for this video, we now take a look at the LMS Stanier 8F class. Four preserved locos feature, though the three main stars in this video are 48151, 48305, 48624 with 8274 AKA the Turkish 8F, making a few appearances, the latter is also the only 8F in this video running in its original LMS guise. 8F 48151 is the only mainline runner in this video, with the other three locos being resigned to our preserved railways.
All scenes were captured from 2013 to 2024.

Outstanding coverage of these fine locomotives and superb photography to boot. I recall seeing these engines back in the day; always willing and capable their stentorian blasts echoing back in cuttings fully in command of the task in hand. I have many Hornby-Dublo and Wrenn models of the 8F which epitomise my memories of these machines. Thank you.

The only time I got to ride behind an 8F was a tour - I think startng from Carnforth, via Preston, Warrington, Frodsham for water, Llandudno - reverse - and up the hill to Ffestiniog. BUT - halfway up the single-track, we drifted to a halt, and had to wait while the steam built up again. I presume it was a poor fire or bad coal.

I used to work with 8274 at GCRN before it failed the LMS number was just an inside joke as it never carried an LMS number because it was originally built as a WD 8F for turkey so it's as built number was TCDD 45160.

You've missed out one: 48773 on the Severn Valley Railway. In any case, I'd like to see a GWR Heavy Freight Engine compilation, which includes 3802 on the Llangollen Railway.

48773 was withdrawn in mid 2008 and has been in the Engine House at Highley since so I doubt much footage would’ve been taken of it before then. There’s also 8F 48431 on the KWVR. I think this video was more to show of the power of the 8Fs rather than them sitting in a museum.
