If abuse is being found in cheer and gymnastics, imagine what would be found if someone started to investigate beauty pageants.

There’s sexual misconduct in marching band too. It’s disgusting the stuff that goes on in high school sports and clubs

The two young men whose mum complained about this behaviour are to be commended. They told the truth and, because of their bravery in coming forward, stopped a predator before he could hurt anyone else. The pressure they were under, with the predator being a ‘famous’ person and widely loved, must have been extraordinary. I hope they know that they are the heroes in this story.

Baby beauty pageants need to be scrutinised.

The boy at the end is losing his friends because he is a victim that is very messed up they were never his friends in the first place🤬

Sexual education needs to have an emphasis on teaching kids how to say no, how to get consent, who it is and isn’t appropriate to have contact with,and who to report to if there is an unwanted advance. Why in the heck do people go to sports organizations and universities - go to the police or FBI FIRST!

I did tumbling until I was 14, my dad pulled me out cause one of the instructors wouldn't stop pulling our bra straps and would bully girls into just wearing their shorts and sports bras, my dad complained and they did nothing. The female instructors also complained and eventually moved.

I’m a cheer mom and I’m very vigilant when it comes to my daughter. This was very eye opening and now I’m really going to stay alert with my baby. My heart goes out to those kids who were violated my theses monsters.

“You keep going until you get it right. And then you keep going until you can’t get it wrong.” I love that.

Great job ladies (and those who assisted in the investigation) getting that list to grow in protecting athletes and minors

We need these 2 journalists to use this exact same formula but in every industry that we suspect people are left on the payroll for either poor systems in place or a personal need to keep them on.

I had a lesbian middle school gym teacher. She never came into the locker room, it was a stipulation of her being hired. It made sense, none of us really knew why for a while. Until the parents created a petition to get her fired because the wrong conservative student found out her sexuality. They had her removed, we got a male gym teacher. This male gym teacher would TRY to come into our locker room. Like peek his head in and say “HURRY UP…ladiesss” it was actually pretty creepy. The woman gym teacher never did such things, and made us feel like we could be as strong as the boys. Our male gym teacher gave the girls different work outs than the boys. I remember doing my first squat in middle school under his instruction. That teacher was an actual groomer/pedo and our lesbian gym teacher was the shiz. It just goes to show that the public doesn’t always know best. I hope that male teacher never got his “opportunity”. It’s weird what makes sense to you when you grow up and look back on it…..

I did competitive cheer and gymnastics at the worlds and nationals levels respectively and was incredibly lucky that I only had amazing and supportive coaches. But I am glad this is being investigated, no athlete should have to experience this.

Big admiration for the two reporters but specially for the courage and resilience if the mother and her sons. 🙏

Now, let go to those beauty pageants. Those kids needs to be saved.

I remember watching Cheer feeling so moved by Jerry’s story about how he got into cheerleading. It’s so sad and deeply disturbing he chose to do something like becoming a predator. But more than likely that same incident probably happened to him, that’s the way it goes.

These boys and their mother are talking about their trauma which is embarrassing and triggering in hopes to help others. They could have kept silent but they didn’t. I commend them on their bravery. Thank you for giving your voice to help others.

I cheered for the same all stars gym Jerry cheered at before it changed ownership to ICE of Indiana. A few years after I had aged out of the program, I found out my former coach was found guilty for sexual misconduct with minor girls. It’s crazy because back then, I honestly didn’t think anything of it because it was so normal to me. It was completely normal to have older athletes on the same team with younger athletes, and I would always hear about my coach hanging out with some of the girls on my team. So glad a light is being shed upon this.

Keep it up ladies! You're saving a lot of children from a lifetime of guilt, shame & embarrassment that they weren't strong enough to say no!

Not gonna lie, the second I saw this show being advertised on Netflix, I immediately knew a scandal of this nature would occur. Misconduct in female-dominated sports is so rampant.

160+ allegations against 1 person 🤯. I want to see to see the kind of dedication here go through our whole world. 1/3 women are sexually abused. I'm grateful there's people out there holding criminals accountable and raising awareness

As a teen in what i dubbed the "rapey. 80s" because as an athlete and a babysitter trying to keep older Men from raping me was a regular occurrence....i never told anyone because it was a really small tight nit town and many were Church elders...only learned 30 years later that i wasn't the only one. Clearinghouses outside the community for victims to report is vital for this to be stopped

Let me make it very clear, young man.. THOSE ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS. I’m so incredibly sorry for the pain and exploitation you’ve experienced.. my deepest condolences. Nothing boils my blood more than those who are supposed to be our mentors, and protectors- abusing that status. You will heal, and you are going to have such a beautiful life and future. I did competitive cheerleading from roughly age 9-13.. so I knew a LOT of cheerleaders/gymnasts and they were all under 18. I am so glad to say the woman in charge of my gym was AMAZING!!!!! but I have watched multiple shows on competitive cheerleading as an adult and it gives me chills through my entire body to know that Jerry has been found caught up in this. I didn’t know how big Cheer was I just watched it because of my obsession and love for the sport, I can’t believe how much pressure are on these young people. For someone who is vulnerable when it comes to mental health issues and I see how that can be a detrimental time. The mixture of things these athletes are exposed to can absolutely be a recipe for disaster and there needs to be way more awareness and open mindedness when it comes to speaking out and supporting each other.. as well as knowing when you need to take a step back and give yourself time to grow without so much distraction..

This is what great skill, determination and empathy looks like. If all journalists had Marisa Kwiatkowski and Tricia Nadolny's character and dignity, corruption and false information wouldn't be so rampant. Great work madams!

I spoke to Jerry on a video chat with my Nephew that Cheered with him at Navarro College and also on the show "Cheer" He was so sweet. Scary ,you just never know. We have to watch our children, others children.

Season 2 on netflix was even worse. Another coach was busted for allowing underage drinking at his party. There's no way this guy is the only one taking advantage of these kids. Edit: Multiple people taking advantage of kids is worse. I'm not ranking crime, I'm saying its widespread and coverage suggests its just the popular one!

Congratulations to you both for your determination and hard work to expose these crimes. Abusers need to answerable, and face the consequences of their evil actions.

It's so sad to see things like this happen to people. My heart goes out to the people that were abused and Jerry Harris' family as well. I know none of this can be easy for anyone involved.

Im going to share a story that happened in the 90s. A well known coach was rumored to "mess" with the teen boys on his team. A mother was trying to get her daughter on team, she was told about what was whispered about him and boys, she said she didnt care she had a daughter so she was safe from him...

Reminds me of a physics teacher who was a known racist and general bigot, so much so that he was banned from the teachers' union, but he was still a practicing teacher. No idea how that works; _almost exactly_ like there are no repercussions or selective repercussions for certain people, especially with teacher shortages back then when there were 38 kids to a class. Nowadays no one is having children, so I reckon it's easier to fire and criminalize these people, and regardless, shortage is no excuse to allow them to continue working with children.

Never trusted that kind of overly enthusiastic / nice persona, it’s just not real or sustainable, it’s a front.

so many more investigations need to be done by this not only in the cheer industry, but all other industries involving children.

So many people including me screamed "Jerry! Why?!" when this came out. Such a sad tale for these young victims, such a smear on the so-called governance of sports authorities. $0.02

this is what happens when something fun meant for kids is taken over by way too many adults who turn it into a huge money making scheme - too many adults getting rich off of kids sports and if they actually did the right thing and banned these abusers then they'd stand to lose a bunch of money.

I remember thinking it was really weird that we had so many older male coaches in our gyms and i’m surprised no one else thought that.

Cheerleading is also a highly rigged and controversial sport although they have nationals, they're not treated as a sport worldwide especially in the United States. Secondly the injuries they're proned too are that just like football players and baseball players they break their backs, necks, legs, arms, end up paralyzed and sometimes die. They're are not compensated for anything unless they win. Lastly most of those corporations are all umbrella corporations under one roof so it's a pretty rig system. Parents have no idea how bad it really is but I remember being in high school and watching this show called pen and teller b******* that had a great episode on it if you want to learn more about it...

This could be avoided if parents were there. Most parents treat all sports like a daycare and simply drop their kids off. As parents we need to have good communication with our kids too. We need to talk to them about inappropriate behavior.

As someone who does competitive cheerleading today this entire situation surprised me when it came out. Come to think of it there are teams that have 13-14 year olds up to 30 year olds.

Sexualisation of minors in recent US history is both sad and extremely difficult to see and watch, where does this begin? Normalising young vulnerable minds to all kinds of behaviour, its the Parents who need to keep overwatch. Exposing kids to all kinds "this is ok" attitude from adults..

It's a very sad fact that you need two upright young women like Marisa Kwiatkowski and Tricia Nadolny from USA Today to have sex offenders banned from youth sports.

I have 3 decades in the sport, I can go on and on about the structure of cheerleading and how it’s set up to allow for almost anything that happen in the sport without it getting known outside of cheerleading.

There are people on the banned list STILL working in cheer because coaches are so desperate for their expertise and talent that they totally look past all their allegations!there are predators lurking in cheer that abuse child AND adults with manipulative strategic actions!Its not just an American thing…Cheerleading misconduct and illegal activity is world wide!..there is a dark side to cheer that isn’t nice and even though I loved cheering I can honestly say that the people trapped in the cheer world are not oblivious to wrong doings instead they hide them or pretend they didn’t happen!..I have seen victims shamed,not believed and also bribed!..the cheer world is not a real place..it’s a place of deluded make believe and adults who are grown ass greedy mean girls with no morals!

Any sport or job that involves children SHOULD require those individuals to have impeccable backgrounds. Psychological tests....parents please dont trust anybody just because they might have celebrity status. We live in a crazy sick world who is preying on children.

Wow so shocking, a show consisting of Child stars is accused of child pornography. Wouldnt have seen that coming.

Wait. People are surprised about this? My wife was watching cheer one day when I walked in from cutting the grass. After 10 minutes of watching it, I said these dudes like little boys. No grown man wants to spend all their free time being around little boys/girls. That is not normal. Men don’t find fun in that. I have coached kids soccer teams but I did it for an hour twice a week and it certainly wasn’t my number 1 priority. It was evident this dude was boning kids. And, I would bet all my life savings that he isn’t the only one. Men acting the way these men act is far from normal but so be it. However, adding the fact that they are around kids acting this way ain’t ok.

The world promotes this type of behavior 🤮🤮🤮

If the governing body of a sport- any sport, cannot keep their athletes safe or properly investigate any form of reported misconduct, than the whole governing body should be disbanded & only reformed when a proper body can be established.

This is so tragic on so many levels. Why is this such an epidemic, and what is being done about it?

I hope that the kids know that they did a good thing for speaking up, its so sad that the kid probably feels like he's being punished ( losing friends, social isolation possibly, and maybe bullying) for something that he was a victim of. I hate it when victims suffer from the situation.

I loved competing in cheer, but I quit because there’s a dangerous and beyond toxic side to it. I still miss it but behind the scenes there’s a lot going on that never used to get spoken about.

SO GLAD someone is bringing light to abuse with cheer and Gymnastics. I was never touched like that outside of my own assault, but I knew a coach who rubbed EVERYONE the wrong way. He would touch the kids in our group too mu h on their thighs, their back, spotted them on their BUTT, but as a 15 year old instructor, I felt terrified to bring something up like that and I have no idea if he actually did or not. It's something to be AWARE of, but not accuse everyone without proof.
