Thats funny about the license plates. Bring backs memories for me. I was driving a grain truck with a guy that helped us in the fall and he was police chief of a small town. I told him I had to go my big truck license and he laughed. And then proceeded to tell me he didn't have a big truck license and hauled grain all fall without one.
that is like a chrysler car I was driving when I was in college, all of a sudden as I was trying to drive home. it stopped! would turn over, but not firing. my friend Ken told me they put in a plastic drive gear for the distributor! but he had the exact match from a truck that was steel! lined up top dead center No. 1, then replaced it, and fired right up and ran. so often a “cheep plastic” part strands you, and you have friends come and help you.
Boy, I recognize that truck from Marketplace! I had been looking for tandems and kept thinking i should look at that one. Ended up buying a Loadstar 1800 tandem.

That truck would shift a lot better if you used the aux transmission. Probably start with the Main in 2nd, You really don't need Low Low, so loaded you could start in Low, shift to Direct, then shift to Overdrive, then shift the Main to 3rd and aux back to Low, then Direct and Overdrive again. You can also skip some of the gears according to terrain etc. Just don't shift both transmissions to Neutral at the same time, If you do you probably will have to stop and start again. With that much engine power you could probably use Direct and Overdrive in the aux transmission, but spacing between gears for Low, Direct, and Overdrive is really smooth.
I tried this yesterday on my way to the elevator sometimes it worked good sometimes it ground but I probably just need some practice I will keep giving it a try and see how it goes
If you are losing air with your foot on the brake valve you probably have a ruptured diaphragm in one of your chambers, which also means you are not getting full braking power when trying to stop. You shouldn't be losing air.

Not sure on miles the man I bought it from said the odometer ran off a plastic gear that stripped years ago and he replaced it and it stripped the splines off again so no speedometer or odometer working in the truck
