Overall I think this is my favorite episode! They give you what you've been waiting for all this time, and (unfortunately) take it all away from you just to come back even stronger in the next season!

Poor Stede was already having doubts about Ed giving himself up from the moment they had to sign the papers. Then seeing Ed with his beard shaved, folding socks and having no escape plan. The guilt of (in Stede's mind) ruining Ed's life just went hand in hand with the guilt he's been carrying about leaving his family. So when Chauncey threw all of those insecurities in Stede's face of course he believed them! Chauncey was an outside perspective and he just confirmed everything Stede feared. And I think it's fair to say that Stede was fully in a state of shock at Chauncey's death. The man seemingly walked all the way home, for hours, in nothing but his nightgown. I doubt he was thinking straight, if he was really thinking at all! And poor Ed. Who's mother told him fine things weren't for people like him. Well Stede is a 'fine thing', an upper class man. Ed hadn't even believed that Stede could be interested in him until Lucius confirmed it for him. But when Stede didn't show up on the dock...it just confirmed the 'truth' he's been told his whole life. These two make me feel SO MANY EMOTIONS. Also I love that everyone, including Fang and Ivan, were totally down for throwing Izzy overboard after like one day of him being captain xD

And it's so sad because Ed showed his vulnerability and it was immediately tested because Chauncey had to be a drunken asshole! Stede and Ed have their issues and that whole thing was series of unfortunate events that tested their insecurities and they both got pulled down by them. What's sadder is, it might've been sadder if Stede did go and meet with Ed because either Stede would've rejected the ride or the guilt would eat him up so much, he wouldn't last long in the boat ride. Either way I hope in season 2, they meet again and explain themselves which would just be alot of misunderstanding until the truth and they both live happy together with their crew...after throwing Izzy overboard cause he's toxic as hell...

@@bluewolf6323 Freakin Izzy, why you had to be toxic 😔 I know he's h0rny for Blackbeard but come on :(

The way he says, "...you?" so softly, and almost as a question. Like he's afraid to even ask for permission to care about Stede. Breaks my heart every time

fun facts: the act of grace was a real (although rarely used) policy, irl stede bonnet and blackbeard both took an act of grace.

It’s not a matter of Stede still “missing” Mary, as it is the feeling of guilt and responsibility that never left him. It was established from the first episode that he knew it wasn’t right to just up and leave, and he hasn’t been able to completely let go of the guilt of having done so.

I WAS SO MAD AT STEDE AT THE END. But then when you think about it is so sad. I was never expecting so many emotions 😢

These last two episodes are SO emotional

Making poor decisions because of emotional damage is one of my favorite tropes. I know it's a trope that often comes off as contrived and hackneyed, but I never get tired of it. I love some angst getting in the way of the characters hooking up..... as long as they DO get together.... looking at you, season two.

This episode does contain so much whiplash, from the trail to their new life working for the crown, to thinking they might just run away & get their happy ending to everything going so wrong in the last 5min! But I don't think Stede wanted to go to China, he definitely didn't sound enthusiastic about it (I don't think he would have gone back to Mary if Chauncey hadn't brought up all his guilt/insecurities either) Ed was definitely willing to serve the King so long as he & Stede were together but when he saw Stede was unhappy he came up with a plan to escape. Then Stede abandoned him. There's no way Ed doesn't think it's _him_ Stede ran away from

Yeah, last 2 eps gonna mess with you. Your facial expressions throughout the entire episode though! Hahahahaa! It's really great to see the crew defend Stede, compared to the first episode when they were planning a mutiny. And oh boy the things that Chauncey told Stede.... Yeah, so many things to process!
