I think the problem is that Bes Of Me was so good and well known, that it kinda overshadowed their other stuff. Moreover, the aesthetic is also something the didn't make them as popular. They matured a bit earlier than their peers, in the sound, and the fanbase wasn't ready for it. It's as if blink never topped What's My Age Again. I know that All The Small Things is slightly more well known, but WMAA was definitely blink. But blink had charismatic frontmen and carried that Pop-punk aesthetic till the self-titled album. If you ask the average person, they only know The Starting Line from Best of Me, or from the album Say It Like You Mean It.
they'll always be haunted by not picking Neal Avron, to produce their album, who went on to produce a small album called From Under the Cork Tree by some band called Fall Out Boy
Anyone else coming here after Taylor shouts out to the starting line in the black dog? 🤩 This has been a favorite song since I had the chance to hear it, great too see Taylor has also heard about this great band!
Been married for 30 years. This song brings a tear to my eye and fills me with emotions. Reminds me of all that we have been through and how you have to fight for your relationship to stay great. To my amazing wife Kathy. " Just keep ahold of me don't let go."
This is actually one of my favorite songs. lyrics are meaningful. The lead singer has a great tone to his voice. The video is simple but we'll made. I'm really surprised how underrated this song is! Such a shame, music today compared to this.
This is what happens when they bring in writers to help. It's why it stands out and was the single. They're a great band but need help to be radio friendly. They should have done this way back in 2005-07. They would have been much bigger. That album they released back then was pretty good but it could have been on fall out boys level kinda. Not quite as popular. But I think they could have stretched out 3 more popular albums had they just listened to the label back then. Early November too. Same thing. Singer wanted creative control and the label spent a ton of money on an album that didn't take off like it needed to. It's too bad too cuz I've seen a few recent interviews from the singers of this band and early November... They look broken. Fall out boy crushed the morale of all the bands back then and the scene fucking died. Difference between fall out boy and the rest was... That dark skinned guitar player... He's the brains. Watch a quick video on how he basically drove that band to stardom from the start. Then compare that to the starting lines documentary from that time period. Decisions. Boils down to decisions.
I remember seeing this music video for the first time on MTV in the morning as I was getting ready for school. I had to be in 6th or 7th grade at the time. I paid $1.50 for the music video. And that’s all I had to say about that.
All of you saying this song should be bigger than it was.... history will come and thank you one day. It was before it's time, and missed the mark from the novice perspective. Trust me, it will be amazing to us one day.... (until then let's enjoy it as the select)
No ways!!! I had this video on my old Samsung D600 as a teenager. I downloaded it from random wap enabled website. It was one of like 5 videos I had on my phone. Completely forgot about it - didn't even remember the bands name. BUT when I saw the thumbnail on youtube I KNEW it was that video. So friggin awesome.
Came here to say I totally forgot about this song until I heard it the other day. I graduated the year this song came out and I listened to it with my boyfriend in 2007. I will be playing this song with my husband now 🖤
Went to my first & last warped tour in 2019... and this band was playing and I never really knew who they were but when I heard their music I was astonished. Bands like blink, all American rejects, sum 41, the offspring, the used and all that jumbo jumbo are phenomenal but these guys are just wow. That summer was boring but this reminds me of how great warped was
This is one of my favorite songs ever, hands down! A far cry from their first few albums and honestly, not a good representation of their later career but god damn... I can listen to this song on repeat for years and never get sick of it! I will NEVER call them a one hit wonder nor will I ever say that their best songs were in their earlier years...but I will die with the mantra that this is, without a doubt, their best song.
I was 10 years old when I met this girl in an online dancing game and we got became friends and eventually got married in game. We always selected this song to dance to in the game. I don't have any friends in real life. The people who I thought were my friends all left me. I was a loner throughout elementary school, bullied in middle school, and depressed in high school. I'm in college now and after all my years of pushing myself to get out of school because it was such a living hell for me, I realized I don't know what I'm going to do with my life after college. After just one year left to go... I listen to this song occasionally and it always brings me back to the simple times. Just a 10 year old boy and a 10 year old girl who lives in the other side of the world, someone whom I've never met but feels like my best friend just makes me really upset. Hannah from Texas is all the information I have of her... This song and the memories just chatting and laughing with her made my living hell so much simpler.
Yeah bro I'll be your friend. Life is meant to be lived. You need to listen to there old stuff and taking back Sunday. The ataris. New found glory. Music saves lives And it's a good way to heal 👍😀
what was your major? im assuming you graduated and im lost just like you. keep your head, my gf left me the night of the 18th of october and my bday was the 19th. this week has been rough and ive been drinking but im optimistic. hmu bro
I am so old lmao 😭. I remember seeing them at warped tour in 2005 after Based On A True Story came out, they were so good live. I was 13. They should've been much bigger they got, so talented.
I remember meeting these guys outside The Chance in Poughkeepsie when I was about thirteen or fourteen years old, I'm twenty-six now. Today I found out they released an EP this month. I cannot say how overly ecstatic I am. This band is by far one of my most treasured. So happy you guys are back.
@@i_luv_pizza_11 Whoa! A comment after 6 years to remind me of how great this song still is! Made me create a Spotify playlist of all the bands from those days. I bet you and I probably attended a few shows together at The Chance! So awesome that you left a comment. Thank you!
I’m completely stoned and just remembered the chorus of this song from my teenage years when I was suffering with insomnia up for three days straight. This used to come on Fuse very late at night and I was always up. I just moved to the NYC suburbs after attending high school in the Pennsylvania country. Times were hard. I’m 32 now… And I’m in love…
This was kennys best hair style. He looks dope.. I met him down a random ass street in nyc at like 2 am. The most random and awesome moment of my life. I snuck out of my parents hotel at the Waldorf and just happened across him while he was recording the album 'based on a true story". This was 04 when he first dyed his hair brown and i wasnt sure it was actually him cause of it. I happened to be wearing a TSL shirt that he signed for me but i was 11 and didnt have a cell phone and im so annoyed i never got a picture. I will never get over how random it was to meet him down a dark empty street while on vacation in NYC, 😂 best moment ever
Hear me out. I’m old. Like gross late 30’s. But I grew up on Best Of Me. For the love of God, I was in a cover band that covered that song! And it was our most well-received. That being said, my wife grew up on E-40, 504 boyz, Tupac…you get it. One drunken night I made her go through MY discography. The Format. Acceptance. The Urge. A New Found Glory. NEST. The Staring Line. The next morning, once the brown bottle fever cleared up she asked me “what was that song about a boat rescuing people from that island? I really liked it, and you looked me in the eye and sang to me. I think that should be “our” song. And now it is. As old people. We play it when drunk with friends. We play it out at bars that still have a digital juke box. I annoy wedding DJ’s when I make them look it up on iTunes. My wife knows every word. Her favorite (as is yours) is the bridge with the drums and no guitar. Because it leads up to such a powerful moment in the song. Anyway, sorry for the rant, but I love this song. Literally everything about it. I only wish I could have seen this live with my wife. She would have loved that
This song came out when I was 20 and whenever I hear it or see the video it instantly transports me back to that time. It's bittersweet because not everyone I loved or cared for around that time is still here! ✌️
This got me through high school. I’m back for it to get me through getting sober and losing a lot of who and what I loved. But things were great when I first heard this 18 years ago and it’ll be great again one day
This band is proof that talent doesn't get you everywhere and that good luck matters just as much. Vastly superior than 99% of their contemporaries that enjoyed more success. Love this band more and more as the years go on.
I remember shaking Kenny's hand outside of Stubbs in Austin, Texas. he was by far The best artist I ever had a chance to meet. I even got his picture taken with me. The Drive-Thru records Fuse tour in 2002.
Let's sail away Find our own country We'll build a house And get tired of palm trees Let's get away Let's push our lives aside I'll sport a smile Take in some color Under the stars I'll be your lover With no distractions I'm gonna treat you right And it seems like things are only getting better Well it seems like we can never catch a break Just keep a hold on me Don't let go If you float away If you float away Waited too long for a ship to come Don't you float away Don't you float away Let's go to bed Let's stop debating Look at the time We're always waiting But we're in love And that should be just fine And it seems like things are only getting better Well it seems like we can never catch a break Just keep a hold on me Don't let go If you float away If you float away Waited too long for a ship to come Don't you float away Don't you float away Just keep a hold on me Don't let go If you float away If you float away Waited too long for a ship to come Don't you float away Don't you float away And if you like And if you like Some other time I would like to introduce you to the finer things If we survive If we survive Yeah and I'm alive I'd like to say how beautiful I think you are Keep a hold on me Don't let go If you float away If you float away Waited too long for a ship to come Don't you float away Don't you float away Just keep a hold on me Don't let go If you float away If you float away Waited too long for a ship to come Don't you float away Don't you float away Just keep a hold on me If you float away If you float away Waited to long for a ship to come Don't you float away Don't you float away
Underrated band! One of my girst CDs i bought was "Say It Like You Mean it"... this song reminds me of when i used to work at Hollister a year after senior year! Good old days!
I love how the singers hair looks different in almost every music video. Like one video it’s short and bleached and spiky, the next it’s curly and full, and the next it’s long and straight. I swear the next time we see him he’s gonna have either a man bun or a Mohawk at this rate
I LOVED your set at the All- American tour in BRIDGEPORT, CT!! I had very close seats and was singing the whole time. So awesome you opened with Island. You guys were on my bucket list to see! Love you guys!🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
I remember they played this on the International Music Feed all day long over and over everyday for almost a year, it was all over that channel and Fuse Music. Good times!
A few weeks ago I was trying to remember the name of the band or the song and I just couldn't. I couldn't remember not even a bit of the lyrics. Now, all of a sudden, I remembered the lyrics at 2AM and here I am! This song was good then, is still good now!!
Isn’t that just the best feeling? When you finally remember a band/song/lyric - for almost *ten years* I had this MySpace band’s name on the tip of my tongue and it finally came to me one cold December night lol
@@millennial_falcon2240 LOL I know, right?! I knew it would come to me in the middle of the night and said and done! I'm just glad I found it because it's just such a good song! What was the song you remembered?
@@aileenortega76 it was a band called The Method to My Medium! For years I was thinking “method.. to… my…. Madness??” Nope haha and nothing would come up on google cause they weren’t too well known
I remember the moment I first saw this vid 🥹 it was on MTV actually, and I fell in love with the track immediately. In my 9th grade speech class, I was paired w/ my crush named Sammi and he had to introduce me, my favourite song is Island by The Starting Line, etc. 🫢 best thing ever I'll never forget that moment
