The Rift Between the Ghana 🇬🇭 & Nigeria 🇳🇬 Film Industries Has Caused A Steep Decline in Ghanaian Film Productions
The inability of the Ghana Movie Industry to hold a systematic awards event.
Key Reasons why The Ghanaian Movie Industry has Been on a Steep Decline
#naijagist #naija
- Falling out / Deteriorating Relationship with the Nigerians
- Lack Of Funding
- Individual Investors Refraining from Investing due to Little or No ROI
- Shortage of raw acting talent; Lack of New Talent to Take over from the old Generation of Actors
- Popular Ghanaian Actors Became too Expensive for local Producers to afford them in their movies
- No Cinema / movie watching culture in Ghana (People do not Value Going to the Cinema to watch Movies in Ghana
- The Industry Is fragmented and the market is very Small
- The transition from VCD to DVD and the Reluctance of Ghana Film makers to Adapt and Innovate
"The gov't has failed the creative arts industry. Do we have cinemas to show our movies? Do we have theatres to play our shows in?" Prince David Osei on Happy 98.9 FM's 'Showbiz Xtra'
Nigerians 🇳🇬 played a very important role towards the boost of the Ghana 🇬🇭 Entertainment Industry. It's after their split that we are actually seeing the importance and influence of Nigerians in Ghana.

Some of the movies, if not most are nollywood movies, featuring more of their Actors/Actresses and even making them lead actors (Nigeria is that generous). It’s not just about Greed only, Envy and Jealousy are also major issues in the Ghanaian society. It’s for the same reasons that their movie industry fractured into Ghallywood and Kumawood, because the Ashantis always have that tendency to dominate others and so when they don’t get what they want they will employ smear campaigns and all kinds of propaganda and tactics to discredit and il legitimize those in control. Because of their financial and numerical strength they often choose division or breakaway tactics that is precisely why Kumawood was founded out of Ghallywood.

@emekaibe3669 14 дней назад
You tried, but the main issue which is the last straw that broke the Camel's back that you didn't mention was that, they started taxing Nigerian producers heavily, each time they went to Ghana for production. Their reason being that the presence of Nigerian film makers in Ghana was not helping their industry. Because of that dirty move, Nigerian producers avoided Ghana completely and their industry became a history. They felt they could do without Nigeria. Some of the stakeholders in their music industry are equally making the mistake currently. The honest truth is that Nigeria is the entertainment powerhouse of Africa; if you think you can do without them and go global, it will be to your own detriment.

Toosweet Annan is half Nigerian, Yvonne Okoro is half Nigerian many of those so called popular Ghanaians acted/acting in the Nollywood are not fully Ghanaians. Some of them are not even Ghanaians. The Kumawood is Kumasi movie industry. They're LOCALS and they're more popular in Ghana than the Ghallywood stars because over 90% of the Kumawood actors and actresses cannot speak English. The Ghallywood stars speak good English but the Kumawood stars cannot speak English so that's the difference. Some of the Ghallywood stars are more popular outside Ghana because of Nollywood but they're not that popular in Ghana because most Ghanaians like to watch the Kumawood movies more than the Ghallywood movies because the Kumawood actors use the local language. But anyways, Ghallywood is dead, and Kumawood is also dead. Now the Kumawood people are doing short skit videos for RU-vid. Once in the while then they do one movie.

You made some valid points. Nigeria's movie industry has come of age. The cinema culture in Nigeria is a game changer, coupled with the fact that the likes of Netflix and Prime Video now see Nigeria as a gold mine for authentic African stories at a fraction of the price compared to the Western world. Nigerians have cracked the code for quality cinematic movie making - these movies cost 100 of millions of Naira. Producers are now able to make their money back - thanks to quality cinematic production, plus Netflix and Prime handsome Payday for these movies after cinema show or directly to these streaming platforms.

One thing I love so much about you is your penchant for innovation and quality delivery, I notice how your contents now look better and insightful than they were a year ago, from the cameras to the editing, studio locations, contents research, loooks and other aspects. This shows big improvement, I understand that these things come with big fundings despite the fact that you may not necessarily be even making enough from monetization. Keep it up sis., the sky is your starting point. More greatness ❤❤❤❤. Beautiful content 🎉🎉🎉

Just discovered your RU-vid channel after feeding so much on your contents on Facebook. The issue here is that the bitterness of Ghanaians over the success of Nigeria in the entertainment industry. When Nigeria was collaborating with Ghana in film production, their actors got exposure with the huge Nigerian market. When some Nigerian producers tried making movies from their shores due to the availability of electricity, they became greedy and started charging expensive dues which infuriated them and left them to build their Ghanawood themselves which they are reaping from. The day Ghana accept that Nigeria is better than them in creativity, things will be okay for them.

Nigeria actually has two movie industries, the Nollywood (Southern Nigeria) and Kannywood (Northern Nigeria,). But it is mostly the Nollywood that projects Nigeria to the global/international stage
@chibuzorisrael5878
@chibuzorisrael5878 11 дней назад
Maybe Kannywood is for Northerners but Igbos and Yorubas have their own movie industry. Same way we have BBC Hausa, BBC Yoruba and BBC Igbo. Funke Akindele acts both Yoruba and English movies. Nkem Owoh (Osufia) acts both Igbo and English movies. Also some Kannywood actors also feature in English movies. Together all Nigerian movies irrespective of language are called Nollywood.

You omitted one important point. When they put a fee on Nigerians acting or producing in Ghana. They did that to push Nigeria away. Which resulted in the division of the two markets. Nigerians on the other hand continues to accommodate Ghanaians. Without the structure and Nigerian market it becomes an issue generating revenue.

In Nigeria, there are more than two partitions, there is the Igbo, Yoruba, and Hausa partitions in the film making industry but there's like a mainstream partition that stands out as the structure holding all the other stems. Collaborative(between film makers and govt) policies, recognition/respect of existing structures as well as the ability to adapt quickly to constant changes in technology are some of the things that helps the industry to continuously grow in spite of challenges especially socioeconomic challenges amongst others.

When it comes to movies we give to Nigerians, they got it hands down no debate but music….please Ghanaians are number one. Nigerians are always sampling Ghanaians. We started afrobeats yet they don’t want to give us credit and have quietly pushed Ghanaians out of our own genre because they have more money.

I won't say there is a division just because some sets of people don't attend the AMVCA award, it inly seems like that cos the standard has risen. There are now a lot of high quality movies, movies you pay close to pay 7 or 8 figures for the script, not to talk of production. There is enough good quality movies to pick from than to go to a mid produced movie which even cannot be transparent with its data. Overall, the standard has been raised and some people are trying to catch up and leverage on RU-vid which i feel might be a long journey but it looks like it's working

Princess Tyra was more Nigerian with a ghanian collaboration Without our people, that movie wouldn't have survived. The storyline was written by Nigerian Directed by Nigerian Produced by Nigerian Marketed by Nigerian That movie is nothing completely ghanian I feel 😢 This is adulterated

What do u mean Jackie Appiah is very fashionable. Of course she is, but thats not the main reason people gravitated towards her. I think it's because she is very beautiful, curvy, fashionable, and can actually act.😍I remember one of my best movies growing up was Ghanaian, Crime to Christ! Majid Michael and Juliet Ibrahim were spectacular! I remember thinking Juliet wasn't real because of how beautiful she was.😂She still is. I was a big Nigerian fan then.🙂
