Geoffrey Ludkin - EVERY instrumentalist in this band is INSANE. Ian is clearly the weak link technical-wise, but his vocals get the job done PLUS he also co-wrote all the songs with Squire, so he’s perfect the way he is. Shame they didn’t record any more albums while they were peaking in '89-'93ish. Music execs always seem to fuck up artists' creative peaks...
Nah it’s just a bloke wearing the style clothes he’s always wore same as every other generation, why did 50 year olds in the 80s wear shirts, trousers, shoes ? Because they’ve always wore that style of clothes, you don’t get to 50 and think you know what I’m gonna dress like Rolf Harris now I’m 50, you were what your style is , my 65 year old dad wears a Fred Perry polo and Levi’s , he wore them in the 60s and 70s aswell ....
I don’t think so. Not to be a nay sayer, but this band is really only recognized widely in the UK and Europe. An example of a largely recognizable bass line would be something along the lines of Another One Bites the Dust by Queen. Everyone knows it. This song doesn’t fit the bill. Nice bass line, though.
That’s right. This is so ours. I grew up thinking the Beatles, the Who, the Doors, the Stones they all had it and we missed out. But we got these guys. And what’s better we’ve listened to this album for the past 30 years.
Been listening to this since it came out. First saw it on MTV's 120 minutes as I was a teen. From Reni's drums to Manny's base riffs to Squires guitar to Ian Browns voice : It all clicked!! My generations music !
Sorry to ruin it for you but the drums are Clyde Stubblefield. It's break from Funky Drummer by James Brown. Not saying Reni isn't genius, as he proved with the rest of the Roses tunes.
Love how the fans are lost in tne guitar and drums. Tranced in the music. Cant find the words for squires how he just takes off in his own world and brings the fans to silence.. it really is typical Roses...where it all started. So psychedelic therapeutic trancy dancy. What a gift, what a legend.
Never has BEEN, or EVER will be a band to match 'THE STONE ROSES'!!!!!!! Heaton Park was one of the best days of my life, right up there with my kids being born!!!!!
Ian Brown will quite rightly be recognised & remembered for being the most enigmatic, mesmerising & honest non-industry owned, free thinker & talented artist & Man of substance & integrity...The world's a better place for our Northern Legend, Prophet, Shaman, BossMan, The Real Deal...Respect ✌️🌍🙏
I watched the Made of Stone a couple of weeks ago, before that I knew zip of SR, o`boy they blew my mind away! Their abilities in music, not to mention their personalities.. Good people! Hope to se èm here in Norway!!!!! ♪♫
Something about Squires makes him very captivating to watch. And I find myself oddly mesmerized watching these guys at their live shows. Wish these goofy guys stuck together back when they were really big
Mister Sifter - Jesus Christ man, he meant it as a compliment, saying they were down-to-earth, funny and chill guys. How does a strangers comment on RU-vid get you that upset? Go out and get laid man, you clearly need it...
This masterpiece was wrote before I was even an idea and I don’t go a day without upsetting the neighbours and playing it until the house moves!!!!! That bass guitar is earth moving!
I want to see if the crowd are doing that special dance of theirs. It got banned you know. Your parents probably did it, tell them to do the "arm thing" and see what happens...😄
Well think of your neighbours ffs, what a shit bad vibe you spread by forcing someone to listen to something they dont want to. Have some respect for your fellow human
This version is a lot more chilling than the recorded one... I'm surprised. Love both but this one could it me to sleep 😂 not in a bad way either. Great track x
I'm 48 & loved the house, acid scene days. I never went to the stone roses re tour. But seen Ian live couple of times and the crowd were was more into the music than here.
The Last Guitar Hero - I can get on with that. Although completely different styles, imo. Marr was never a flashy lead player, and was a much more efficient rhythm/riff master. Of course, Squire is completely capable of writing his own riffs as well. I’d say Marr; Keith (Richards)::Squire; EC
It circles in a sublime ecstasy that lingers for as long as the Reni's drum play into Mani's bass. At this point Ian takes it deep into one's inner self from mundane to ethereal and then it passes it on to John whose strings ring to the limit of pleasure... And the bass keeps bringing it back to the point of hypnotic dizziness... And the drums exhale taking it to a faster tempo... The dance tries to keep up with all of this raising it up to a scream. Yes it happens again and again... Adore TSR (Watch it in their new Movie - Much better sound...)
When youre 19/20 years old and you produce one of the most iconic albums in British music history then in my opinion that makes you awesome. Studiowise amazing! Live , most of the time not so good mainly because of Ian Browns vocals , but for any stone roses fan a delight to watch. Whatever floats your boat , I reckon !!
aha, ian threw me his shaker at this song, what a weekend and an even greater weekend before at finsbury park, my favourite band, their great, that is all.
Was there. Got down towards the front!! I'm in my 40's!! Would appear the kids don't care for the Stone Roses. I on the other hand do!!! Great gig!! This was my third time seeing the SR. There was help with Ians tuning!! Because now and again he was!!± In tune!!! Loveit!!!
At 11:47 until the final note - Everything that was great about the debut, married to the short period when the band were funky e.g one love/something's burning ,plus the heavier second coming sound that had John Squire 'taking the piss' with his individual ability is summed up on IB's face as yes, he knows they are that Good!
+Harry Sowerby Say what ? The original (studio version) sound great mainly due to the funky drumpart but it's a sample from a 60's song called Hot pants by Bobby Byrd. That drumpart is iconic and used in many (mainly rap) tunes. Often tried to replicate, as in this live performance, but the funky drum part isn't even close !
Fools Gold is one of those songs that has life all of it's own. You can't put your finger on why it is such a classic, but it is. It's like Manchester's "Hotel California."
It's catchy, danceable, has swagger and the vocals are unusual yet cool. Poppy yet has a little dark edge to it. Mellow but energetic. Plus fantastic musicianship without overdoing it. It's the perfect balance of everything that makes a great song.
