The Stone Roses - I Wanna Be Adored (Official Video) 

This is my summer of 1989. Working in a record shop in Bristol where this was on constant repeat play. Where I met the lovely woman who was to become my girlfriend and then my wife. Twenty blissful years and then cancer takes her. Can't listen to this without simultaneous tears and gratitude.

the bass riff, the dreamy vocals, the sparse guitar melodies, the overblown drums, the weird ambiences... everything is fucking perfect here

when i was younger, around 4 or 5, i'd always refer to this as 'the dog song' ... 'dad play the dog song' and then i'd sing the words 'i wanna be a doooog' had my dad in stitches

The year is 89 and I live in a big house with 3 floors and 8 flats. The landlord decides he wants to sell up. 6 of the flats are now empty and the residents of those flats don't kick up a fuss and leave with the exception of me at the very top and a chap called Chris who was at the bottom. We decided to make a stand and fight till the end. At this point we had no water but we had the whole house to ourselves and it was a big house.. One day while in my flat I heard a song that was being played at full volume by Chris at the bottom and I mean full volume I felt compelled to go down to his flat and find out who played this music I had never heard of the stone roses or this song. It was a revelation for me. Something unique , powerful and emotional. That was the day I heard the stone roses for the first time. Of course I bought the album and played it full whack. The whole house rocked to the sound of this track. We had a glorious 2 months of listening to this album over and over again. Eventually we were both offered £250 to leave and back in 89 that was a large amount of cash for each of us. I will never forget that period in my life being introduced to a seminal band. The building is now some solicitor headquarters. Bet you can still hear the spirit of this album in the walls.

I'm so happy I grew up with this as my scene, a young 15 year old lad from Manchester, wearing the baggy tshirts, and jeans and the bucket hats. This is timeless. Still think to this day it is one of the best intros to a song ever made......

The first time I heard this was unreal. Saturday morning coffee and joint with my brother and then we hit our local record shop. This was playing when we walked in. Stopped us in our tracks. We were blown away.

I just love Ians silly dance. The most charismatic uncharismatic singer ever.

My wife and I rocking this song in 2024! It was the first time for her hearing it and she was singing along. Totally awesome!

Fun Fact: Both "The Stone Roses: The Stone Roses" and "The Cure: Disintegration" were released on the 2nd of May 1989, making it the greatest day of the year.

Shout out to everyone who was alive when this was released in 89 - and is still rocking it today.

It’s so hard to explain how this song makes me feel. I never experienced the 80s or the 90s. Only have memories of the early 2000s. Yet this song makes me feel I lived in the 80s and 90s. And it also makes me nostalgic to my early 2000s memories. But I only discovered this song half a year ago, when it was summer. The sky was getting darker and I was cycling back home from work whilst listening to this song. This song really has a special place in my heart.

I ran into John Squire at a little bar in Hollywood back in the mid-90s. Dude was super drunk but very stoked to be recognized by an American fan!

The intro is so cool. The way it sounds, the way they’re walking. Like the main characters in a movie.

I’ll never forget the first time I heard this song- I was dating a really gorgeous guy who owned a 1970 Turquoise Triumph convertible. He said “I’m gonna play you a song but you can’t say anything- just let it wash over you” and he drove a country road to a beach with this song playing. It was perfect- a sultry summer night- the smell of coconut sunscreen, the salt air in my hair while we drove at sunset with this song. Just perfect. Sweet memory!

There are a handful of songs you hear for the first time that stay with you for life. I remember grabbing this album from my dad's CD collection and listening to this song for the first time on the bus on the way to school, steadying it on my lap so the discman wouldn't skip, back in 2003. It became my soundtrack for that year. Thanks for helping make that year bearable, Ian + Stone Roses!!

This song changed my musical direction when it first came out. I was 17. When John Squires riff kicks in it just takes me to a different world. II bought this album on vinyl when it got released. In 2014 I got John Squire to sign the cover of that album for me

Discovered them only a week ago, am totally addicted.

We were all tripping on the first full wave of ecstasy and raves were in full swing. Fantastic days. No social media or endless posing for fake photos. Just pure, unadulterated peak experiences, one rolling into another.

The 90s....would relive that decade for the rest of my life and never get bored.
