I cry after listening to this song because it reminds me of college days. The 00s was such an awesome for alternative & punk rock before electronic & pop music took over & music got ruined in general.
You totally missed the main issue. Nobody in the USA wanted to know. It was only when a UK record label showed interest, they travelled to the UK and did some gigs and got signed to Lizard King that the US labels started fighting to sign them. Mr Brightside was not even the first release in the US, Somebody Told Me was. Mr Brightside was the first release in the UK (copies of that are hot property as only 500 were pressed). Mr Brightside was re-released in the US after Somebody Told Me.
I live in Seattle and the local radio station KNDD, 107.7 The End (which famously played a big role in the grunge scene a decade previously) had a “new artists” slot where they played songs from up-and-coming bands. That’s where I first heard The Killers (this was like 04 maybe). There was a solid five years where whenever I’d hear them I’d think ah yes, that up-and-coming, biggest band in the world.
Love this video! I'm a massive Killers fan as well and I enjoyed learning some more about the hit song! Curious, what's your favourite single off Hot Fuss? Mine personally would be either Smile Like You Mean It or All These Things I've Done. But my favourite off the album would have to be either Andy You're A Star or Indie Rock and Roll ❤️
All These Things. Saw my first Killers show three weeks ago, and there was that moment - when a concert transforms into church - and it was during All These Things. The collective energy of everyone during the buildup and then the roof just blew right off. That moment - and every show has one - is why I go to shows and The Killers were bang on!
But you never tell us what the hell the song is about. You just say that Brandon is Mr. Brightside, and it’s about his gf. That’s not very specific. What exactly happened?
I lived it. I was the other guy in a relationship and watching this video made me feel guilty. Even though his story was different It made me feel feel guilty for being the other guy. We got caught they broke up but we still hooked up till we got bored
