I’m so sad to learn of Jim’s passing. He literally gave the world a tremendous amount of joy from his songs that have become timeless classics. RIP to a true gentleman.

The story of making the song equals the greatness of the song itself.

What a great singer and songwriter. He made some really great recordings of his songs in his own style. RIP Jim.

I have been a Jim Weatherly fan ever since I first heard the Ray Price album "You're The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me ", and noticed that it was compilation of Jim Weatherly songs.

Let's not forget her daughter, Whitney made a hit of Dolly Parton's country song, "I will always love you." Good songs can cross genres and still succeed.

That was interesting hearing the evolution of a song that ends with the superb version by Gladys. Thanks for this.

Love this channel. Every one of us relates to music and these songs are the tracks of our life.and to finally know the meaning is wonderful . As our favourite musicians pass on to have a record of these stories is just wonderful . Thank you from Sydney Australia

They're right about recording then versus now. I like how there are multiple versions of older songs from different artists. Like there's a flavour for everyone. Now it's one artist and that's it. Nothing really wrong with either model of business, but it's unfortunate they don't mix it up as much anymore.

Thank God for Farrah Faccet Majors, Cissy & Gladys, the background vocals & adlib by Gladys was iconic ~ neither one of us too, Mr Weatherly, phenomenon...

Nonsense. She is widely regarded as one of the greatest singers of all time, any genre. She has won grammy awards, and HOF inductions. She is is no way "Underrated". Silly

Wow. Guess it's a good thing he didn't hear Farrah say she's "taking a daytime bus to Manhattan" LoL. He may have still made a song of it but probably would have had the same story or feeling. Great little bit of rare trivia with this video thanks for sharing

The song takes me in a surreal trip with multiple states of mind about LA and the endless dreams and failures and why not, successful stories people who experienced life in the city.

His version is nice but he DEFINITELY benefited from the upgrade provided by GK & The Pips!!!!! You KNOW yours is the definitive version of a song when others don't even THINK of re-recording it. After Gladys Knight did it - that's it, show's over. Game, set, match!

As much as I love Whitney and her mom, sorry, _Midnight Train to Georgia_ belongs to Gladys Knight. Can't nobody touch this song the same. Just like can't nobody touch _I Will Always Love You_ like Whitney, or _Proud Mary_ like Tina. Period.

I don't care to hear the excuse. Fact is the the real title is "Midnight Plane to Houston". Cissy Houston and Gladys Night are both guilty of singing about something that did not happen. Good thing they do that to : Galveston". .Changing the song title is similar to Stolen Valor. The song was about a Houston gal. Not a Georgia gal. Nothing you say or do will ever change the truth. Sad fact is "Midnight Train to Georgia" is a lie. Out!

Gladys changed the Title to Midnight Train to Georgia because she takes the long ride to Georgia on THE TRAIN - You clearly know nothing of Gladys' life - you should educate yourself before making foolish remarks 👀🙏
