Why would you not be allowed to send your own child a sandwich with peanut butter simply because another child may have a peanut allergy? From what I've read, someone can't have a reaction by being in the room or there being a scent particle in the air. If all children are bound by the allergy-restrictive diets of a few, that certainly limits the unaffected children's access to a lot of food.

As a former elementary school teacher, the school cafeteria can be a dangerous place. Kids often share items even when told not to do so. There were times when our cafeteria would have over 150 kids in it and maybe 5 monitors. It sucks but it could be a serious safety concern for larger schools.

They can have a reaction just from touching. It's not worth someone's life is it? For the sake of PB. They also swap food.

Peanut allergies, especially in young children, can be triggered by even residual peanut oil from dirty hands. I don't really feel like accidentally killing a kid because it was more convenient for me.

They can have all the "unaffected access to food" you want--outside of school. Someone else's child should be put at risk because you can't abide by one simple rule?
